Manning to Retire?

Glib to the point of being meaningless.

The Patriots, without Tom Brady, went from being the (at the time) greatest offense of all time and 16-0 to 11-5. With a weaker schedule than the year before.

Meanwhile the Colts went from 10-6 to 2-14. I don't know their comparative strength of schedule.

But what I see are two teams who both took tremendous hits without their QB. I'd welcome any further analysis on this that is more than just citing records and pointing a finger at the bigger number because SoS, roster turnover - these things matter.

We've gone over that enough that I'll let others do most of it, but I just think one example of "things matter" is this:

14-2
10-6

That was the direction the Colts were heading in, even before Manning to hurt.

11-5

That's the record the Colts had in Luck's rookie year. The difference from Manning to Painter was less than the difference from Painter to Luck. If people want to look only at the records, Andrew Luck > Peyton Manning.

Well, if you're not intending to take thinly veiled shots, then you're trolling. How else do you explain these two posts below, one from this thread and one from another thread ten days ago? Are you talking out of both sides of your mouth because you're only here to badmouth the team when it suits you, or are you doing so because you're a troll (and a piss poor one at that)?

Also, LOL at you talking about fighting Joker over the internet.

We should all be concerned about Uncle Meat's mental and emotional stability right now, one minute he is Spartacus and the next he is Tony Eason against the Bears. Very disconcerting indeed. Ted Wells please report to Patsfans.com, Ted Wells to Patsfans stat.................

We say 'sup. :p

There has been all kinds of talk lately about how Manning doesn't care about his legacy, and how he'd come back if he still enjoyed preparing, etc. but I don't buy it. I think he does care about his legacy and I don't think the Broncos are in any shape to once again compete for a title next year. That defense is still absolutely atrocious, and there's a good chance they lose Eric Decker to FA.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he hung 'em up. In fact, I think that's what he should do.

So you're saying he does care about his legacy and will retire because he thinks his team is on a downswing that will make his legacy look bad?

I seriously doubt that. Manning has the legacy opportunity to set 2014 career QB records in TD passes and yards (I think). I can't see him walking away from those records and $20M. He's always gone for the stats and the money. He always like Brady loves preparing and playing. Why suddenly change? His rump swabs can always blame the playoff loss on Decker, etc. leaving. Regular Season Legacy Gold!

Meat, I know Joker personally and can assure you he is not a punk. He's a quite large, well-traveled and sophisticated human being with a wicked sense of humor. Like you and me he can be a bit over the top here, but this is a place for letting off steam.
I have no problem with people letting off steam. I don't even have a problem with backhanded, condescending remarks.... but comments like the following are out of line. I mean, doesn't thing forum have rules?
Only a repugnant feces eating mongoloidal troll, which is what YOU are, argues with PLAIN fact...here's a simple google of "spygate in the news"...
You are a persistent POS lying, scumbag, weasel, troll though, as 85% of your posts in the archive prove without equivocation.
Is that the type of discourse this forum wants?

You do understand that the Patriots went 11-5 when Brady was lost for the season, and the Colts went 2-14 when Manning went down for the season, right?
You do understand the Colts were deliberately losing games that season, and really went from 10 wins their final year under Manning to 11 wins their first year with a rookie QB?
Brady played terribly on his own in that Championship game.
277 yards with 1 TD, 0 INT and a 93.9 rating is hardly "terrible." He played poorly when compared to his own ridiculously high standards, but he also had some very good plays as well. The Patriots lost to a better team and have nothing to be ashamed of.

Meanwhile the Buffalo Bills have the longest active playoff drought in the NFL at 14 years but cheer up, I have some good news.... their 18 year playoff victory drought is only 4th in the league. :singing:

The main forum has spent the majority of the last week arguing sociopolitical issues. This discourse is a welcome change.

Also consider that during the 2-14 year, the Colts were 2-0 with Dan Orlovsky at QB.

10-6 the previous year under Manning.
0-14 under Curtis Painter
2-0 under Dan Orlovsky
12-4 the next year with Andrew Luck

Clearly this team was going hard after Andrew Luck

No... I'm saying it will make his legacy look bad when he doesn't put up similar numbers next season and run the serious risk of going one and done again. The Chiefs are on the up and up and have arguably the much better team as a whole. Another one and done due to talent flocking away from Denver doesn't look good on Peyton. Losing the Super Bowl in truly astonishing fashion and then losing in the postseason again isn't a great look for Manning.

Does anyone think he'll put up another 50 TD, 5500+ yard season? On top of that, does anyone think that next years offense is going to match this past years offense? I'd be confident in saying no on both counts.

start there on page 4 and read forward. Pretty clear who the contentious , repugnant troll is and also pretty clear he lashes out at everybody in the thread even though he is 100% wrong. Repugnant? Absolutely.Deliberately logging in as a Patriots fan when you are a fan of another team to create as much disharmony as one possibly can every day is against the terms of service here. Taking quotes out of context and attempting to use them to hide the fact that you are trolling is laughably moronic.Popping up randomly in every thread I post in to continue this silly, troll agenda is a little bit "Fatal Attrraction" like...maybe this wingnut is a Glenn Close clone...

There are few things more pathetic than someone who says they have put someone in their "ignore" file, but just keeps responding to them. :singing:

It's pretty funny how I am living rent free in your head though.

[Mod edit] I am pathetic and sad. As a Buffalo Bills fan, life is so dark. Hell, my team will probably be moving to LA soon.

The stat sheet doesn't tell the story. Stats were padded too. If you watched the game, that's obvious. Brady should have had a couple more possible touchdowns, but he was not throwing the ball well at all on that particular day. The Patriots were not executing on offense, and Brady looked pedestrian at best. Don't bite my head off either...it's just true.

I'm guessing that Brady's 277 yds, 1 TD/0 INT and 93-94 QBR (gasp) were probably somewhat due to the prolific receiving options of:

--Aaron Dobson rookie, who had 18 catches in the final 3 months from mid-October on

--Danny Amendola and his groin injury which produced 1 target in total

--Matthew Mulligan and his Hulkamania skill set at TE

--Michael Hoomanawanui and the great receiving threat that he has proven to be

That leaves:

--Edelman (as the only "real" receiver---obviously that's why he had the best receiving stats)

In my opinion, we were damn lucky to have gone as far as we did with our absolutely pathetic receiving options. I don't think any other team could have pulled that off, and it speaks volumes to their hard work and resiliency last season.

Without Brady though, there's no way they'd have gotten past 9 wins. He should be sainted for what he put up with with those receiving options and bad luck such as Gronkowski only playing in 6-7 games total. I don't think it's fair to put much of anything on Brady.

You didn't exactly have to be a terribly good defensive mind to gameplan for options like that.

Let me be the 1st to wholeheartedly agree with Uncle's statement here!

So Joker thinks you're a troll and here you are revelling in having accomplished a very trollish goal?

After hanging 55 points or whatever it was, and setting records for most points scored against your franchise in its entire history, I'm not sure if Pittsburgh fans should be feeling too confident about taking over NE/DEN/IND ;)

You'll need to get past CIN, BAL, and possibly even an improved CLE (should they actually get a QB) first.

I don't think the Broncos are in any shape to once again compete for a title next year.

I don't see how they're not in any shape to compete on a high level again. All of their core players are coming back, along with a healthy Von Miller. They also have the draft and the free agent period. If you're basing this off of the fact that they may lose Eric Decker, that seems rather silly, although I respect your position regardless.

Manning will retire when his health forces him to. That might be this year or next year or the year after.
