I have read countless posts in threads recently of how Julian Edelman is a system WR and that is why he did well.

I heard similar things about Welker over the years, which makes me curious –

•What is that system?
•How does it work?
•What aspects of it benefits Edelman or Welker, etc.?
•Why did we sign Amendola to such a large contract when we could have just plugged Jeremey Ebert into “the system”?
•How have we maintained this system despite having two different OCs over the past 5-years?
•Isn’t any offensive scheme that a team uses considered “the system”?
•Even if it is “the system”, shouldn’t we value a player who is able to understand and execute in the system?

Personally, I do not buy it right now so if someone could explain it to me I would greatly appreciate it.

This article by Chris Brown breaks down the Pats system. It should answer some of your questions.

Yeah, I think it's an interesting topic too. Someone with a few years in the system does have a tremendous advantage should he get lots more snaps due to injury.

I think Peyton has a somewhat similar system maybe, I don't know. The Pats receivers need to read the defense, plus it's a timing system. Other timing systems don't require reading defenses to that level.

This is rushed since I'm leaving, if I'm not correct, or explaining well.

Why? You ask some interesting questions.

I deleted that post and will leave it open. I was going to have it deleted to avoid any animosity. I don't agree with devaluing of Edelman and others based on the belief that they're only successful because of "the systems". I think that Edelman in particular worked his rear off to convert himself from a college QB to a very good NFL WR.

The system is Tom Brady.

It's that he is incredibly accurate on short throws. That simply. It's always why Welker didn't miss a beat with the Broncos (because Manning is also incredibly accurate with short throws).

Plus I think having hot routes helps the slot receiver get open.

Evry team has a system. Players who don't learn and execute the system are the problem. It's ridiculous that "system" QBs, WRs has been seen to be a negative. No one executed and caught 100 passes for Edelman, his success just shows he's smart, studied and practice well. If he went to another system, those traits would lead to success there, given the opportunity. Some systems require less adjustments by receivers.

I think this is a great example of someone almost executing, then because of selfishness (my opinion) breaking for open space and the goal line, instead of where the defense dictates he should have cut.

ochostinko. Great job by former Pat Wiggins.

Its an easy way to discredit the Patriots' success without saying anything at all..."ITZ DA SYSTUM" = you guys are incredibly successful and consistent but its all bs because the offensive concept is so unique and forward that it doesn't count... Bu, bu, but Matt Cassell went 11-5 when Brady went down!!! Yea after Brady went 16-0 , 50 tds etc.. It's amazing to me that after almost 15 years and so much consistent success, people just say ITZDASYSTUM like its fact.

Check Erhardt's coaching record, it ain't just the system.

I just think it is extremely ignorant to suggest that Edelman’s 100+ and 1000+ yards season was a product of a system. In the 40+ years this franchise has been around, we have had three players catch 100+ footballs and Edelman was one of them. If it is a system, we really suck at teaching it because three people being able to learn it in 40 years, is not impressive.

I read threads like what it takes to catch 100 balls and gain a 1000 yards and I think, really. Why did we waste the $28.5 mil on Amendola we could have just plugged an UDFA in there and saved big bucks?

So basically you made this thread to continue your Jihad on Amendola. Ugh..

Not at all. My point was we paid a superior player a large sum of money because we could not just stick anyone into the system and have them be successful and Belichick acknowledged that a quality player is needed.

Talk about being defensive...
