If Edelman walks, select an alternative WR

Me too but, out of the two, I'd rather take Pryor and put raw, athletic physicality back in the back end of the defense that hasn't been there since Rodney retired. Pryor is exceptionally bright on the field as well. Handled the pre-snap assignments, etc.

Yeah, I probably would, too. Since there's a chance Donald could be had in round 2, I'd move around and try to snag them both.

There has been a lot of interest in Manny in this thread, so I'll give you guys the lowdown.

Sanders has the potential to be a great number two receiver, but I do believe that is his ceiling. While he has great speed and even better YAC ability, he doesn't have great hands. He made some clutch catches for us this year but his development has slower than we'd all like to admit. All of that being said, I think he would be better than any receiver you guys currently have on the roster. With Brady, I do believe he's a 100 catch, 1100+ yard guy. If Gronkowski is ultimately the first read in the Patriots' offense (either due to lack of talent around him or for schematic reasons) then I think Sanders would be a great complementary piece.

Tj Moe or Mark Harrison, if we're being realistic

Realistically?

Sanders.

I hate that word. Any Free Agent is realistic if they so choose to pursue them. Riley Cooper or Hakeem Nicks.

Riley Cooper/Nicks
Aaron Dobson
Josh Boyce
Gronk
Amaro

+Deanthony Thomas
+Colt Lyerla

More weapons than ANYONE could stop

Yea seems like everyone forgot about Moe n Harrison. I'm esp excited to see what Harrison can do

Interesting take, appreciate the insight. The line about him being the number one receiver makes for some good food for thought.

Free Agency X Wide Reciver

Here is a list of free agent WR available as well their prior salary.
» Over the Cap- 2014 NFL Free Agent Wide Receivers

From that list here are the players that i would want:
Julian Edelman: He certainly isn't the best player in the list, but he knows our system and people seem to forget that he is also a great punt returner. We had a horrible Kick return game and if he goes so will the punt return game, he is more valuable than people think.

Kenny Britt: He is a bad apple but Bill always tries to give those bad apples another chance. We can give a one year deal and see what happens. Take a chance like we did we Chad.

Hakeem Nicks: Yes, he can get a suspension if he doesn't behave, but people need to remember so did VJax, and he is doing really well in Tampa. I still wish we tried to get Vjax here, so this could be another mistake.

Darrius Heyward-Bey: He is big and he had a few good years, he didn't do much in 2013 but i believe Tom can make him into a stud.

Who i don't want:
Anquan Boldin: The dude is going to turn 34 by the beginning of the season, including the high salary that he will be looking for, this is a no go.

Re: Free Agency X Wide Reciver

Heyward-Bey can't catch the ball.

What about Jeremy Maclin? I don't think Boldin's physicality has deteriorated at all as he's aged. He just posted one of his best seasons of his entire career with Kaepernick throwing him the ball. He's worth a 1 or 2 year deal, no more than $6mm per year though.

All in all, I don't like it when people throw the age card on Wide Receivers. Outside of QB and K, WRs have pretty lengthy careers.

Also Edelman isn't a true X per se. He's more of a Y or Z.

I would prefer to keep Edelman but if we can't we should go after a guy who can stretch the field. I think Dobson/Boyce/KT will improve. But we still lack that field stretcher vertically to keep defenses honest.

Now that being said, the field stretcher is not going to be some kind of magic medicine for our offense, but it helps to have that Dante Stallworth type to take the top off. I think Maclin is probably the closest equivalent in this free agent crop.

Nicks and Decker are good as well but they are more like big possession receivers who can also make occasional plays downfield instead of being speedsters. They also probably will both be too expensive for us.

Also, please remember that Edelman was the best PR in the entire league last year. If he's gone, we're going to need a new punt returner. Blount is surprisingly effective as a KR but we could use a specialist who can field punts and perhaps alternate on kick returns as well.

Re: Free Agency X Wide Reciver

Yikes. DHB? Really? What a disaster. Can't believe Al Davis took him over Crabtree. Those 40 times had way too much pull with the guy. I think we also already have 3-4 similar threads like this one on the first page here alone....

I'm going with Hakeem Nicks based on the value (probably less than 6 mil per with incentive escalators) due to injury concerns and a sub-par year.

He's an excellent route runner, good hands, physical, can stretch the field, played big in big games, and is young at 26 years old.

Of course, this all due to what I'm assuming his value will be...If Nicks can get 6 or 7 mill per from someone else than so be it.

I'd really like us to look close at Andrew Quarless TE, if we intend to maintain that "Joker" role in the offense I think Quarless could run it. He was solid in subbing for Finley but I'm hoping he's still a bit under the radar in terms of value.

For a guy that has done SFA for 2 seasons, it proves that if you have a name, people will want you. Nicks hasn't done much in the NFL since 2011 and I'm a little surprised so many people are tripping over themselves to get him.

I know Nicks has size and skills but the production does not meet the reputation. Someone is going to overpay for the name.

I like the idea of trading for Justin BLACKMON. He is leaps and bounds better than ANYBODY on that list. I think he has matured. He DOESN'T want to lose any more paychecks im willing to bet. REMEMBER TO WIN A SUPERBOWL WE HAVE TO BE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NFL. THAT MEANS BETTER THAN 31OTHER TEAMS WHO WANT THAT TROPHY. THEY AREN'T GOING TO LAY DOWN FOR US. TO BE THE BEST WE MUST HAVE THE VERY BEST. HE IS A PHENOM. FAST AND PHYSICAL. HE CRANKS OUR OFFENSE UP PAST 2007 LEVEL.LETS DO THIS WR UPGRADE RIGHT FOR A CHANGE

You need understand what an X-WR is:

• While the general fan base and most commentators use the generic term wide receiver for all such players, specific names exist for most receiver positions:
• Split end (X or SE): A receiver on the line of scrimmage, necessary to meet the rule requiring seven such players at snap. Where applicable, this receiver is on the opposite side of the tight end. The split end is farthest from center on his side of the field.
• Flanker (Z, FL, or 6 back): A receiver lining up behind the line of scrimmage. Frequently the team's featured receiver, the flanker uses the initial buffer between himself and a defender to avoid jamming, legal contact within five yards of the line of scrimmage. The flanker is generally on the same side of the formation as a tight end. As with the split end, this receiver is the farthest player from the center on his side of the field. The flanker is probably lined up just like a split end except that he is just behind the line of scrimmage, being in the backfield and not on the line.
• Slot receiver (Y or SL): A less-formal name given to receivers in addition to split ends and flankers (for example, tight-ends who line up wide). These receivers line up between the split end/flanker and the linemen. If aligned with a flanker, the slot receiver is usually on the line of scrimmage, and if with a split end, off the line of scrimmage. As with the flanker position, a featured receiver often takes a slot position with a split end to avoid jamming.
• Slot back: A receiver lining up in the offensive back field. Canadian and arena football allow them to take a running start at the line. They are usually larger players, as they need to make catches over the middle. In American football, slot backs are typically used in flex bone or other triple option offenses while Canadian football uses them in almost all formations.

Julian Edelman: He certainly isn't the best player in the list, but he knows our system and people seem to forget that he is also a great punt returner. We had a horrible Kick return game and if he goes so will the punt return game, he is more valuable than people think.

Yeah he is just the only one on the list who has had 100+ catches and 1000+ yards in a season.

Kenny Britt: He is a bad apple but Bill always tries to give those bad apples another chance. We can give a one year deal and see what happens. Take a chance like we did we Chad.

I actually did not think Britt was a terrible idea until you reference Chad Johnson and then you lost me.

Hakeem Nicks: Yes, he can get a suspension if he doesn't behave, but people need to remember so did VJax, and he is doing really well in Tampa. I still wish we tried to get Vjax here, so this could be another mistake.

Nicks has never been suspended.

Darrius Heyward-Bey: He is big and he had a few good years, he didn't do much in 2013 but i believe Tom can make him into a stud.

Heyward Bey has been targeted 362 times in his career and he has just 169 catches to show for it, which is a ratio of 46%, which is awful. NO, NO, NEVER… We would be better off bring back Terrell Owens.

Anquan Boldin: The dude is going to turn 34 by the beginning of the season, including the high salary that he will be looking for, this is a no go.

He is not an X-WR anyway; actually, the only X-WR on your list is Nicks. Heyward Bey is more of an FL.

superpats, when you capitalise your posts, nobody is going to bother to read them.

Re: Free Agency X Wide Reciver

Krafty will sign the cheapest most over the hill inury prone wide receiver with health issues in keeping with their constant search for a bargain...donald jones joey Galloway chad johnson michael jenkins...I hear Henry ellard is available....

Lots of uncertainty regarding whether we will have the ability to re-sign minitron. If he does in fact walk, who on this list do you see as affordable alternatives?
