How much does this SB loss damage Peyton Manning's legacy?

Re: After last night...

My puny mind will never understand how a legacy remains intact after a 43-8 superbowl loss, with the greatest offense in history. Just my take;)

I agree with Patyslicious this loss killed him in 2 ways.

1 just losing

2 the manner in which they lost (got blown out) and only scoring 8 points.

If he played decent kept it close and lost cause of the def or something they could have made better case for him but not in the way they lost last night.

Mannings two picks were boneheaded plays. throwing up ducks up for grabs when he really shouldve taken the sack. and it lead to a pick six

its what he does though....remember the playoff loss against the ravens. it was manning throwing on the move right into a defender. or against NOL when he threw a pick six to seal the game.

Manning's two interceptions in the Super Bowl vaulted him past Tom Brady into a tie with Dan Marino for 4th place all-time in having passes intercepted in the post season.

Short of Bill Polian and Tony Dungy i really do think that last night's performance has to change the way most people perceive Peyton Manning. He is still going to be recognized as a great passer and the GRSQBOAT, however Tom Brady was already recognized as the best clutch QB and it is going to be much harder to find people who will claim that Manning is the GOAT, whereas before yesterday there were many who would have made that claim.

The GOAT discussion will be Brady/Montana, and it will take another Lombardi for Brady to ever have the edge in that discussion.

It cements his legacy, he is, without question, the Greatest Regular Season Quaterback, Of All Time.

He took himself out of the conversation for GOAT and will never get back in it unless he runs off 2-3 Lombardi's to end his career, and obviously that is as long a shot as they get. The Bronco's gambled on this season and are going to start losing pieces starting this offseason.

The GOAT discussion is now down to two quarterbacks, Brady and Montana, and while montana still has the edge among most brady alone has the opportunity to unseat him. I think he plays at least 3 more seasons, if not 4, and he has a really good shot at another Lombardi, and would surpass Montana in every other quarterbacking category.

yes, he replaced dan marino for that title

Manning's the most prolific passer the game's ever seen. He's not the best QB, regular season or playoffs. Brady's better than him in both, and it's not close in either.

The answer to that question is, "not enough".

This season was Manning's career in a microcosm. Literally the greatest regular season a QB has ever had, but an astronomical choke job in the playoffs.

Re: After last night...

Manning played better than Brady yesterday.
I'm not so sure that's true. Brady didn't throw terribly many pick-6's yesterday and he certainly didn't turn the ball over 3 times.

Brady accounted for 0 net offensive points yesterday.

Manning accounted for -1 net offensive points yesterday.

Win: Brady.

Re: After last night...

Manning is several notches above Marino. It's not that close between the two, really.
I'm not so sure about that. It's been 30 years since Marino came on the scene. The game has changed tremendously since then, especially regarding rules designed to favor passing.

Marino was regularly throwing for 4,000+ yards back when throwing for 4,000 yards actually meant something.

I'm not so sure. Things would be different if Marino entered the league the same time Manning and Brady did and played in this pass happy era.

Re: After last night...

Here's where I think Manning's legacy took a genuine hit:

He gets mad props for being a "coach on the field". Well, Denver's offense wasn't well-coached yesterday. That's not really his fault, but it should help remind people that "coach on the field" and "his own offensive coordinator" are rather hyperbolic concepts.

Peyton Manning is an outstanding quarterback -- no more, no less.

Manning is Marino plus a cheap (2006) SB win. Marino was arguably the better QB, but Manning has had better teams around him for most of his career.

Lol woops, totally missed ur post when i went to write mine...thats embarrassing haha

Re: After last night...

Manning and Brady are both great. I give Brady the slight edge for his ability to play in the elements. That being said, it's teams that win championships, not QBS, so Bradys 3-1 edge in that department is not the deciding factor for me.
To me it is the most important factor. Its why you play the game.

Re: After last night...

After last night......and enjoying myself just as much today.....all I can say is schadenfreude at this level is as exhausting as it is fulfilling. I need a nap so I can keep it going for a while longer.

Re: After last night...

It was the way he lost. 2 INTs, a pick 6 and a fumble. If they lost by even 10 in a hard fought game that would be one thing but this was an embarrassment of epic proportions.
You are arguing that beating Tom Brady in the AFCCG then playing poorly in the SB makes him lose ground to Tom Brady.
He could have thrown 8 picks yesterday and he still would have added more to his resume this year than Brady did.

You must have been born in the 90s
