A QB for eg. Seyton throws for zillion yards and gillion ( :D ) TDs the media crowns him the MVP and the best ever to fart on the NFL field. But when the same QB performs poorly in a big game like a SB and looks scared like a cat on a freeway the same media blames it on everyone but the QB. ?:confused:

Isn't that a tad unfair to the rest of the team? After all Football is the ultimate team game unlike Basketball/Golf.

We'll see how the media spins this game. In fairness, one of the issues surrounding Manning's legacy is that he doesn't play poorly in big games, it's that he doesn't play on an elite level. And frankly, Brady can be accused of the same thing since the championship years... plenty of decent games but not doing quite enough to win sprinkled with an untimely interception. But tonight was quite different. Manning was just horrible and, despite having a healthy record-setting offense, didn't seem to know where he was and never seemed to figure it out. I don't think Brady ever played a game like this in the playoffs.

Other than a few people with a vested interest in proving themselves right *cough*Faulk*cough* I think everyone is saying that the entire Denver team laid an egg. Because that's true.

Demaryius Thomas showed up to play and not much of anyone else. You can't lay this one at Peyton's feet entirely but he was as much to blame as the rest of the team.

But I really haven't read or heard anyone I would consider a credible voice saying Peyton played well enough to win and the rest of his team let him down.

Before the wheels fell off, the rest of the team held their ground for awhile. The defense held Seattle to eight points despite two deep red zone trips while Manning kept missing. Let's remember the Broncos gave Manning all of these weapons with the idea that no team can ever blow them out because they'll always be in the game with their quick strikes and more weapons than any team in the NFL. The pick six ultimately sealed the game, although you could argue that the safety on the first play from scrimmage sealed the game. Complete disarray all over on that offense. Who was it again who is crowned as the team's semi-offensive coordinator, de facto leader, and team captain?

When did Brady ever throw ducks like this

We hardly see Seyton throw a rocket like the ones Brady or Rodgers throw. In fact i don't think Peyton had any completions which were over 20 yards tonight.

If the Broncos would have won, everyone would have given the credit ONLY to Manning no one would even mention Thomas or any other Bronco.

Probably, but I don't expect the media to be fair. I gave up on that years ago.

The thing about QBs is that it's the only position in football where your legacy is judged by championships. Nobody says Barry Sanders is less of a RB than Emmit Smith because Smith has three SB rings and Sanders never played in a SB. People argue Smith is better, but not based on that. So, no, it is probably not fair, but that's just how people look at it.

The media likes an easy to understand, prepackaged story. There's the good guy that is virtuous to a fault and, hopefully, there's someone around to assign the role of bad guy who is without any redeeming qualities.
They don't like that story to apply to more than a few people and, ideally, applies to one good guy and one bad guy. With the QB the most visible position by far, he makes for that nice, easy to tell, prepacked story telling. The media also don't like the story to have too many details/nuances to explain. "It's a team sport and a team win" is a platitude that just won't sell as well. They want a story that is the good guy leading his team by exemplary play, behavior and attitude. Anything that doesn't fit that will be conveniently unmentioned or swept aside.

In fairness to Manning on this one, as TB/the Patriots learned in 07, no matter how potent your passing offense, when your OL can't keep the opposing DL from an almost constant pressuring the QB, your passing game is going to flounder. What we saw in yesterday's SB was Manning having to throw without the benefit of timing (something he is master with). His throws were uncomfortable and forced based largely on pressure. If the Seahawks DL would have pressured him much less (a la Patriots two weeks ago), Manning probably would have put up plenty of scores. Enough to win? Who knows...

Do not understand all of the "Legacy" discussion, except it makes great fodder for the talk show mediots, prior to this game Peyton has cemented himself into the top 5 QB's of all time.. how they are ranked is debatable, but who really cares.

You cannot lose the turnover battle by 4-0 and expect to win in a game such as this... Peyton did not hike the ball that went over his head that set the tone for this game... a lot of 3 and outs(playcalling or execution?), Seattle moved the ball against the Broncos... it is a team game.

Adam Schefter addressed this topic before the playoffs started. Basically said manning should get the credit for wins and the team for losses.

How that performance doesn't give people pause when talking about Manning as the GOAT, I'll never know.

Peyton Manning is the reason his team lost. He's at fault for the safety for not making sure his offensive line heard his cadence or calling timeout. When the score was still just 8-0, he threw an absolutely boneheaded INT that turned the game completely in Seattle's favor. After that, he wet himself against a pass rush.

D. Sanders saw it and had the balls to say it. Most of the media won't go that route, because Peyton Manning.

But Peyton was directly responsible for 3 of the turnovers and he could have had more.

Pats fans in the media andon this board eviscerate Brady when he isn't perfect, but when Peyton puts on one of the worst playoff performances in recent memory, everyone starts to make excuses.

Heck even Richard Sherman was making excuses for him. The double standard between Peyton and everyone else is laughable.
