when the pats make trades its for guys that are about to be cut and don't cost the team much in cap space or draft picks, sometimes does trades turn out to be Randy moss, Aqib Talib, and sometimes they are Chad Johnson and
Albert Haynesworth,

but they never roll the dice on blockbuster trades that cost both high draft picks and big money does type of trades when they don't work out could set the team back for years that's why BB will never make a trade like that

Re: Pats were interested in trading 4 Fitzgerald in 2013 but never initiated trade ta

I was interested in dating Jessica Alba 10 years back but never initiated the talks

Re: Pats were interested in trading 4 Fitzgerald in 2013 but never initiated trade ta

I doubt the Patriots were willing to overpay Fitzgerald. I'm sure his name came up in a meeting and Belichick shot it down and that's why Fitzgerald is still playing in Arizona with that washed up QB.
The problem is Belichick seems to think this Defense is actually any good and that's why the Patriots will continue to suffer in SB games and playoff games. The team is too Brady dependent and when he's not playing his best game, unless they are playing scrubs, the team loses. Brady would be in the SB every year, if he had a D similar to Seattle's. If Belichick won't improve the D, he could at least put some star power on the offense.

Well done

You look at the Pats defense and it's been pretty bad for awhile now. If I told you their rankings for the last 5 years or so....you would figure BB put all his eggs in the offense with major weapons.....

Nope

Looking at their cap situation you would think they would be in better shape with the "average" talent they have throughout both sides of the ball. Makes you wonder what this team would look like without Brady.

Brady is being used IMO

The defense is good. Much better and younger.

Losing Wilfork, Kelly, Andrian Wilson, and Mayo killed the run defense. Talib had to play vs Denver for a punchers chance to beat them at home.

The offense didnt do its job and struggled again. They had weapons, but Hernandez went psycho and Gronk thinks that he is a freight train. Almendola hurt. All 3 rookie WRs hurt at the same time.

We've got a HOF QB right NOW. I would be willing to set the team back in the future when we dont have that guy to win one more with this guy.

Re: Pats were interested in trading 4 Fitzgerald in 2013 but never initiated trade ta

Glad this one didn't happen.

Thats the problem with Larry Fitz.

The best stock portfolios are diversified spreading risk across many sectors. The best WR corps is one with multiple options at WR in case 1 goes down you still have other targets.

When is "in the future"? We're still more than likely not at the point where they can go "all in" this year and put off feeling the effects until Brady is gone.

Let me riddle you on that Cousin. I would love Fitzgerald but his cost even at discount is way to high. I know that strict Patriot ways of doing business cut many trades down before they start, but BB does his best in Trades and FA acquisitions and has been very mediocre in Draft picks. Some good years and some awful.

There are players out there that have been discussed like Gordon from the Browns and Fitzgerald, but as I have mentioned, Andre Johnson might be the right guy. In fact January 30th, 2014 a dude named Ryan Thomas Guidi at some site Patriots 101 published the story (where is the credit where you saw it weeks ago dude?).

Guidi further goes on and says (without saying he saw it on Patsfan.com,.one of our threads.....DW Toys not withstanding) "This year's first round pick, the 29th overall selection would inevitably be the first piece of the puzzle. After that, there are countless variations as to who could be dangled as trade bait. Perhaps O'Brien liked what he saw in quarterback Ryan Mallett's development and isn't sold on Teddy Bridgewater or Johnny Manziel with the number one overall pick." Ryan, really? if you need my number let me know! It was almost verbatim. Those bloggers!

I mentioned Johnson only has a $4.5 million CAP number and he has crap at QB and still hits 100 receptions. He is a true #1 WR we have not had it years. We have played with #2's, #3" s and in some case #4's and even a prolific two TE set up that worked. But Gronk might not see the field until the bottom of 2014 and is a luxury. Mr. Kraft says he is against loading up. I have suggested Johnson and Jag WR Justin Blackmon as cost friendly remedies to get TB help. Yes Blackmon is troubled but a clean new gig in N.E and a rehab that sticks are all that anyone with those problems can ask. The Jags will take a pick.

With the help and approval of Mr. Guidi, I have also mentioned Mallet and a first, in fact second and third for Johnson and sure Texans CAP casualty Owen Daniels (who solves at least one TE issue. He is recovering from a leg fracture but will be ready. A what-the-hell throw in for the Texans) and the Texans second round pick (pick #33). So we lose a few spots from our first rounder whom BB might Trade anyway!

The Johnson CAP number is smaller that Welker in 2014 and he is the same age and about a foot taller!

He had 109 receptions in 2013 with a crap core of QBs.

If what we read is true about Mallet and O'Brien, Rookie Coach and Rookie QB like Bridgewater make for a short Pro Coaching career. Mallet has at least some history with BO.

I would like to see how many would do this Trade and those like the ones on this Forum we know who will poo-poo it and why?

Did you get all this Ryan?

My bad Miguel>
"The conversion of $4.5 million in base salary and a $1 million roster bonus to a signing bonus simply pushes an extra $4.125 million into future years, at a rate of $1.375 million for each of the next three seasons. It increases Johnson’s cap number in 2014 to $12.1 million and in 2015 to a whopping $16.1 million."

I was considering 2014 only and at that a contract redo after that. I was basing it on 2013 base salary. It's a sticky wicket after that. He should redo.

Calvin Johnson and his $20.5m and $24m 2015/2016 cap hits

Fitzgerald $12.75 million with his cap figure increasing from $10.25 million to $18 million

YEAR BASE S. BONUS MISC. CAP HIT DEAD for Texans

2013 5,000,000 469,583 5,058,335 10,527,918 11,392,084
2014 6,500,000 469,583 5,175,000 12,144,583 11,964,166
2015 10,500,000 469,583 5,175,000 16,144,583 7,319,583
2016 11,000,000 - 3,675,000 14,675,000 2,675,000
2017 UFA

I saw a Base Salary of $4.5 mm not $6.5 mm as it is. You are the expert to know what misc.(?) is

Still think he is cheaper.

Moss was bradys first..and will be his last great WR. He will retire without playing with another big time WR. Sucks becasue it would have been amazing to see what he could have done with a fitz his entire career (maybe 1 more SB win) Hopefully we can win another ring but we only have a 1-2 year window here

Just one question:Will I ever meet the right person? You seem to know the future so I figure you are a fortuneteller.....no?

Re: Pats were interested in trading 4 Fitzgerald in 2013 but never initiated trade ta

Per Tom Curran:

@tomecurran
Individual just told me Pats were interested in dealing for Larry Fitzgerald last offseason. And this person I believe without reservation

Hopefully, this will put the rest the whining that the Pats don't do enough to put talent around Brady while he's in his prime.

But they never got him, so until they do you can keep the useless comment to yourself.

I was interested in trading in my Ford Fiesta for a 300 class Mercedes but...I just never initiated talks with the dealer.
