2014 Draft Prospect Thread

I thought Exum was under 6'. Where do you think he fits, outside CB or S? I haven't been able to figure that one out, which is part of why I'm not sure what to do with him (the other part is the injury).

BTW, Christian Jones ran stride for stride with Sammy Watkins too, at 6'3" 236#. Not sure if that's a statement about Jones and Exum, or about Watkins, or both.

I think safety, but why not both? Saves a roster spot.

They could still get a very good WR with their 2nd rounder (I think Lee could fall that far). But if not Lee, Odell Beckham or Landry, Paul Richardson, Brandin Cooks. There's still lots of upside picks there.

i'd like to see the pats give richardson a try. He looks good on film. can make tough catches and plays like a big body receiver. plays pretty fearless to me. luckily he'll be around more or less in the 2-3rd round because of how deep the wr class is.

If we're going to talk OL, are there any Centers worth drafting this year? Wendell is absolutely horrid and I hope can be upgraded upon somehow. If no centers of note, maybe we could draft an athletic G who is intelligent enough to slide over into the center position.

Take a look at Arkansas's Travis Swanson who fits the Patriots type really well in terms of size, athleticism and leadership/big school\captaincy etc etc. Also look at Weston Richburg of Colorado State who is slightly smaller (300lb) who by all accounts outperformed Swanson during Senior Bowl week. Finally Joel Bitonio of Nevada is a decent bet because he can apparently play every position on the OL.

What do you think of Anthony Steen as a possible center conversion? There have been rumors that some teams project him to the pivot.

Doesn't matter, he sucks. Just so bad, wouldn't start him at any position.

I agree that's more like it, and pretty much what I expected. 244 was a joke. The physical point has never been the problem with Lynch. Immaturity, rumored selfishness and questionable work ethic are all significant concerns. But he's certainly someone to keep an eye on.

I'd say that a guy who goes from 270 to 240 and now up again to close to 270 has to have at least a little bit of work ethic.
I think he would be an amazing fit with the pats.

Putting on 20-25 lbs. in a short time is easy. Aaron Maybin did it before the Combine, and conned Buffalo into using the #11 pick in 2009 on him. It doesn't mean anything.

I have no problem putting Lynch in my "intrigued" basket. I want a rotational DE badly, and after Trent Murphy, Lynch and Taylor Hart are the most interesting guys to me. As I've said, the raw physical tools are clearly there. But I'm reserving judgment for now on the rest of the package, and wouldn't go nearly so far as to say "he would be an amazing fit with the pats" at this time. He could be all that and more, but I want to do diligence in checking him out more thoroughly in terms of the issues I've listed.

Quick question. f you are working out a draft trade and want to assign points to a next year trade, how many points do you assign?

For example: Tampa Bay trade #7 (1500), #100 (100) and 2015 1st (?????) for St Louis #2 (2600).

For the bolded, do you assign the mid point number for the round you are trading i.e pick #16 in the first round (1000pts) or pick no 32's value (590).

Edit: Reason I ask is that I'm starting a mock and envisioning a Bucs trade up for Clowney. I also think the Bucs are favourites to sign Jared Allen. Can you imagine that as bookends!

It's a guess. Generally, you have to guess roughly where you think Tampa Bay would be drafting next year - at least in what range - and then discount it by 1//2-1 round. So if you assume that they'll be in the 10-16 range, conservatively, then you would give it a value of anywhere from a very late 1st to around #45 or so, depending on how heavily you discount it. I'd say 500-600 points, to be aggressive, but it's just a guess. It's all subjective.

Going by the chart #2 is worth 2600 points, #7 + 100 is worth 1600 points. The difference is around the #16 pick, so you would be a bit on the short side. OTOH, that's just going by chart values, and you never know what teams may accept.

Thanks. Threw in an extra 2015 3rd.

I don't know how reliable they are comparatively but here's a link to Scouts Inc's top 32

Scouts Inc. Top 32 overall 1/28/14.... | Dallas Cowboys Forum - CowboysZone.com

Some of it ties in with Daniel Jeremiah at NFL Network; Jernigan a top 10 pick, Moses a borderline first rounder and Carlos Hyde a first rounder (Eddie Lacey syndrome?).

They also have Justin Gilbert high. He's my #1 CB and one that Matt Miller (Bleacher Reports draft guru) called the best CB eval since Patrick Peterson.

If that was how the first round looked and Ebron fell to 22, I'd be tempted to trade up for him.

They have Marcus Martin and Travis Swanson as the top 2 centers, both as 3rd round values.

I seldom agree with Scouts' Inc. on much, but I agree with them on Greg Robinson being one of the top 2 prospects in the draft (I'd actually rank him #1) and on Timmy Jernigan being a future stud.

The Pats have had some pretty epic OL collapses in the playoffs. Sometimes due to injury of a key player. Sometimes because of guys normally studs ie Mankins sucking. We need to prioritize interior OL depth imo.

Dante is gone, and I'm not sure if the next OL coach will be quite as adept at turning chopped liver into serviceable linemen. And frankly sometimes 'serviceable' gets overpowered when playing against elite defensive lines.

Wouldn't hurt to inject more talent into the group responsible for protecting Tommy Terrific. He looks his best when he has that extra half second to make the read and throw. When your OL gets dominated by the play of one guy, Knighton ring a bell?, then that's a pretty big sign that you need some upgrades.

Infact thats the grade i would give them also. Some years they might be second grade or even first, but this years draft is Deep, creates a trickle effect on players.

But it also shows that Patriots could/should pick OL in round 3,4 and 6.

Could be Weston Richburg in 3 round, Billy Turner in the 4 and Andrew Norwell in the 6.

Not adding Spencer Long WHO i beleave is a second day pick talent, but drops simulary as Barreth Jones a year ago.

Andre Hal - What does everyone think about this kid? I've seen some Big boards that have him as a 2nd round prospect while others have him in the 6th-7th. From what I've read, he seems to be a later round kid with some limitations but I don't know a lot about him. Thoughts?

I like him. He's pretty quick and seems alert, but we have been going for more physical cornerbacks than him lately in Dennard and Logan Ryan. Come draft time, I bet he is a day 3 prospect.
