2014 Draft Prospect Thread

I think Greg Robinson is the top prospect in the draft. Walter Jones II.

I wouldn't put him over Clowney and Bridgewater personally but I think you might be right. I've avoided mocking the Rams a OT but Robinson might just be the upside that would suit Jeff Fisher.

And he would be nasty, nasty crazy good as a guard. His pass set is really the only issues you have with him at this point.

What do people think about mocking Cleveland trading up to #1 for Manziel. If the accounts are true, they absolutely love him and it could explain them stockpiling picks this year.

Would 4 (1,800), 26 (700), 71 (235) and 83 (175) get it done? Or maybe 4, 26 and 2015 1st.

I don't know that they have to. If Clowney goes #1 to Houston, which if you read Walter's rumors today they're likely to go with a vet QB, then the Rams take an OL or Watkins, then Jax takes Bridgewater and then Manziel falls to Cleveland. The only issue is if a team wants to trade up to #2 and wants Manziel, which I don't see that team right now.

Also, if Houston trades out of #1, they'll definitely miss on Clowney.

I like your second point (they could still get Bortles or Barr though). However, I think if a team loves a QB as much as Cleveland are reported too, you don't risk waiting.

Speaking of which, what the heck? If that is even remotely true, the Texans are nuts if they don't do that trade. Sorry Mallett, but an elite QB still at the top of his game with a few years left up for trade don't come around often.

If the Texans can get Clowney and Big Ben.....wow.

As someone that is crazy enough to believe the Browns could be the 3rd best team in the AFC next year if they nailed the offseason, this trade is tough to make. The defense is already talented/top 10 in yards and just needs some complementary pieces. Those players could be at picks 71 and 83. They also have plenty of cap room to retain Mack, Ward, etc. and go after Tate. The pick at 26 is the perfect pick to land the #2 WR opposite of Gordon. I think the Browns almost have to believe that Manziel will be there at #4, rather than give up alot of draft capital for potentially no reason.

Is a WR2 (Lee) and two defensive picks worth the risk of Manziel being drafted ahead though? Maybe not.

Something like this could be the Browns offense if they nail FA & the draft.

QB: Manziel (pick #4)
RB: Tate
TE: Cameron
WR: Gordon
WR: Lee (pick #26)
slot WR: Edelman (sorry guys....)

I'd be happy just to see Manziel go #1 though anyway. :)

They could still get a very good WR with their 2nd rounder (I think Lee could fall that far). But if not Lee, Odell Beckham or Landry, Paul Richardson, Brandin Cooks. There's still lots of upside picks there.

Their line is pretty good also, just need some guards. I think Ben Tate is almost a lock to go to Cleveland. Huge need and Tate clearly wants to get paid. I think he'll end up like Michael Turner was for Atlanta when he left San Diego. But yes WR and guards, along with retaining their own guys would make a great off-season, assuming they get their QB.

I think they'd be more inclined to bring in Mallett than Big ben, atleast that's who I'd want. Cousins, McCown, and Vick are other possibilities now that Cutler re-signed.

And Dee Ford, who I am not a real fan of:
Dee Ford Scouting Report- 2014 NFL Draft

I agree with you on Ford. He has a great 1st step, but his overall game is lacking. Late 2nd seems about right to me. Physically he's another Bruce Irvin, for better or worse. But Irvin went #15 overall, and someone will overpay for Ford's quickness off the snap.

What is everyone's thought about SS Jimmy Ward from N. Illinois? From the little I've read, some compare him to Earl Thomas....not necessarily as good but same type of player. Seems he would be a nice upgrade over Gregory if we can land him in the 3rd or later but again, I don' know a lot about him. Thoughts?

I love love love Jimmie Ward. Have done since last year. I'm just not sure BB drafts a 5'11" safety high when we already have McCourty. I wouldn't lose any sleep if he did though.

Of course you know about Ward. LOL.

Is he in your opinion, the same style of centerfielder as Thomas?

I don't watch enough of other teams to make those comparisons I'm afraid. Thomas ran a 4.37 at his pro day and I don't think Ward has that type of athleticism. Where I think Ward wins is in his on-field intelligence and instincts. Almost always seems to take the right angle or be in the right place to make a play. I was always amazed that his stock was so low and was wondering what I was missing. glad for him (not the Pats, that his stock has righted).

BTW - If we are looking at a safety, and I think a late round option is best considering what we have now, Antone Exum could be the guy. Just been watching him run stride for stride with Sammy Watkins, I watched three games of his (he forced three fumbles) and he's 6'-6'1" and 224lbs.

I thought Exum was under 6'. Where do you think he fits, outside CB or S? I haven't been able to figure that one out, which is part of why I'm not sure what to do with him (the other part is the injury).

BTW, Christian Jones ran stride for stride with Sammy Watkins too, at 6'3" 236#. Not sure if that's a statement about Jones and Exum, or about Watkins, or both.

Well if you read the quote from a couple days ago about Watkins, he started working out preparing for the combine, and after his first 40 the trainers said something to the effect of "we don't need to prepare for that any longer." So he clearly crushed atleast that one.
