No Love for Hakeem Nicks

BB said on WEEI that he sees the rookie WR's making a big jump in year 2 and he is counting on them next year so who knows.

BB Smokescreen...this tells me that NE is going to make a big splash in FA for a reciever...cool:cool:

Why get used to one and done in the playoffs? We've been to the AFCCG more than anyone this decade. Think, then post!

Even post, then think, then immediately delete would be okay.

The only receivers I'd even look at this offseason are Anquan Boldin, Andre Johnson (if released), and Larry Fitzgerald (if released). If none of that happens I'd like the team to draft Jordan Matthews

If it's for Nicks, watch as most people in this thread change their tune on the drop of a dime. That's basically what happened with Moss (12 on the Wonderlic, by the way).

I said I wasn't going to post anymore in this thread but your points show how hypocrital Football fans are. BB makes this move and he is the Greatest GM since slice bread. They are so much spin Doctors on Patsfans.com its pathetic. I would love for such a move to happen so I can call them out.:snob::rolleyes:

Much rather have Nicks. Last thing we need is another sub 6 foot WR for TB (Sanders)

Speaking from the point of view of someone who followed Nicks and Brandon Tate and Jesse Holley at UNC, Nicks was a spectacular athlete but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I am not sure he has the wattage to make adjustments to the coverage the way the Patriots and TFB demand. He is pretty dynamic though:

Brandon Tate was the more complete football player as we've seen from his success in Cincinnati as a kick/punt returner and special teamer. I thought the Pats took the right one when they gambled on Tate even though he would miss his rookie year recovering ACL surgery.

The thing about threads like this is that we need context. For example, is it Nicks instead of Edelman, or Nicks as well as Edelman?

In this case, the OP has talked about Nicks playing with Edelman, meaning this would be an additional contract. So, this would be yet another receiver who can't stay healthy (0 full seasons played in 5 years) and would also be a receiver with siginificantly dimished production in the past 2 seasons.

The team doesn't need another expensive member of the glass menagerie. If you want to gamble on a glassman, go spend a million on Danario Alexander, so at least you won't be screwed with the cap when the player is lost for the year. If you want a dependable WR3-WR4 guy, go drop reasonable coin in Jerricho Cotchery's lap.

Eli Manning SUCKED which could play a role in Niicks's production or lack their of. The man is only 26 not a old turd some of you on Patsfans.com is selling Nicks short. WR and TE are Both NEEDS on this Team we are not an ELITE Team on Offense anymore.

Eli didn't suck in 2012. What's your excuse for Nicks then?

THe 2001, 2003 and 2004 teams were not ELITE on offense either

I don't have a tremendous amount of love for Nicks, no.

That said, if the price is acceptable I'd be much more interested. We do need to take some chances at fielding some real outside receivers one way or another, and I'm not as certain as some others that Dobson is definitely going to be that stud in only year #2.

As usual, the options are limited, and that makes giving a guy you normally may not want like Hicks (EDIT: mis-type Nicks) a longer pause before saying "no." I wouldn't even consider getting into any kind of bidding war or overpaying, so the point is likely moot anyway, but if the price were not too bad--then I would definitely consider it.

who the hell is Hicks???

and FWIW..I'd burn on a bed of dry sticks for one night with Stevie Nicks....(circa 1980)

Well, we don't know....but we know he's capable, unlike a few other receivers so many are banking on to develop.

He's been hurt. Obviously the team will take him through a physical and make their judgement.

He is only 26 years old. He's fully capable of playing real good football when healthy.

I'm simply suggeting that he would be a good fit if the price is right and his health checks out.
Why are you trusting the health of a player who intentionally skipped multiple treatment sessions last season? Seems to me like Nicks was perfectly satisfied with not being able to play to his talent level due to injuries.

I like Nicks and Sanders alot but I think if Edelman is re-signed we can't afford a splash at WR. Would rather give Dobson/KT/Boyce a year to grow and see what we got there. Maybe another draft pick or Collie type signing. If we're spending $$ this year, priorities should be along both lines as that's where we've been losing these playoff games.

Just saw Stevie on "American Horror Story.". Not quite the 1980 version, Joe, but if she asked me particularly nicely...

I can see it now we open up week 1 with a lineup of:

• RB – Vereen
• WR-X – Nicks
• WR-Y – Amendola
• WR-Z – Edelman
• TE – Gronkowski

Then the next vision I have is us opening up week 6 with an injured reserve list of:

• Vereen
• Nicks
• Amendola
• Edelman
• Gronkowski

I like Nicks he is a good player but he has to many injury issues, we already have players that carry more injury risk than most of us would like so I would rather commit to someone who historically durable even if they’re a lesser player than Nicks. I know everyone is at risk for an injury but given our other player makers – Edelman, Vereen, Amendola and Gronkowski have all missed 12+ games in the past 3 NFL seasons due to injury I cannot advocate adding Nicks to that mix.

You guys are showing your age...however if she asked me nicely AND gave me some cold hard cash, we'd be able to strike a deal.

I imagine I either mistyped or meant to type H.Nicks.

Either way, obviously you understand the point--especially since I just spelled it correctly in the previous paragraph.

With limited options in free agency, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a long thought if the price went down. Otherwise--no. Thankfully, we have Belichick to make these choices for us, and hopefully he'll admit that the lack of outside targets has been a bit of a hindrance these past 3 years with wasted trips. (Not that I'm meaning to discredit their accomplishments, only stating that it's unfortunate that we've had 3 good opportunities which resulted in nothing)
