4 weeks until the combine

then 2 weeks until free agency

then 9 weeks of free agency before the draft (this is greatly expanded over past years)

Not a big fan of the combine. I don't get to watch any college ball in New Zealand so watching players who I don't know run around cones doesn't thrill me.

Free agency however, I will be glued to the internet waiting for rumours and updates that never happen.
I think it is more important to focus on keeping our own this year. Maybe go after an outside WR.

I like Mayock, so i enjoy the combine, it's a good opportunity to learn about the players, especially day 2 and 3 guys

I always like when FA starts. Still sucks it's over for a while

This is the first year I really got into college football so I think it'll be interesting, for me anyway, to track some of the players through the whole combine/ draft process

Yeah, we're lucky to be able to have some kind of football to follow from Aug thru Feb, which is about 6 months.

Those other 6 months are hard to deal with, and we're just getting started. I feel like I'm on some kind of weird Christmas site at the end of December, just waiting for the next Christmas to come along

The effort of the NFL to try to make the season a 12 month event is a stretch, like the old format better.... even the draft being that late does not give a draft pick a lot of time to get settled and acclimated to the culture of the NFL, specifically the Patriots.

Also gives the coaches less down time to recharge...

Might be a good time to find a hobby.

A look at key NFL dates ahead - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston
The offseason came sooner for the New England Patriots than they had hoped, but the team has hit the ground running in turning its attention toward the 2014 season.

Below is an outline of some important dates during the upcoming offseason, to give a sense of what's in store for the Patriots and the NFL at-large over the next handful of months.

Feb. 17: The window to designate a franchise tag player is open. For the Patriots, cornerback Aqib Talib could be a candidate.

Feb. 19-25: The NFL combine will be held in Indianapolis. Members of the coaching and scouting staff will meet with prospects and view workouts during this process.

March 8-11: NFL teams are allow to contact player agents of pending unrestricted free agents and enter into contract negotiations. This "legal tampering" period was implemented last offseason. While no deals can be formally signed, they can be informally agreed to.

March 11: The 2014 NFL league year begins, as does free agency.

March 23-26: NFL owners meetings, to be held in Orlando, Fla.

April 7: For those teams that hired a new head coach this offseason, they are permitted to begin their offseason workout programs.

April 21: For those who teams that did not hire a new coach, they are permitted to begin their offseason workout programs.

May 2: The final day for restricted free agents to sign an offer sheet. Long snapper Danny Aiken is the lone Patriots' restricted free agent.

May 8-10: 2014 NFL draft. This marks a shift from previous years, as it is being held a few weeks later than its normal time.

May 19-21: NFL spring meeting, to be held in Atlanta.
Yup it's a long and slow road ahead... I hate the fact that they broke the draft into three days and pushed it back to May but oh well :(

It's a good thing, they need to come up with ways to free up some money and get some key pieces in place before free agency starts. A new deal for Edelman and restructuring Wilfork are the priorities imo.

I enjoy the daily mock drafts leading up to the draft.

We need more people in the draft thread. You are cordially invited.

I need to have more time to do some homework on positions that I haven't explored/seen players at in college then I'll be down there.

I will miss the NFL and the Pats a lot. But there's still football, the Winter Olympics, Six Nations, Golf majors (including the Open which I will go to), Wimbledon, the World Cup and then the Ryder Cup (which I will hopefully go to) when the reg season starts. It's not too bad.
