Time to Get Brady Weapons

Also, don't forget they were close on getting E. Sanders from Pittsburgh. So this whole notion that they don't spend the $$ or go after players is a bit overblown. Provided nobody from the current group of players goes off and kills people this offseason or gets arrested, we'll see what they do to address their needs at the WR/TE positions.

I almost forgot about the E Sanders offer because it was so small it was almost worth not mentioning. It wasn't even a multi year deal. It was a half-hearted offer at best.

BB screwed up on obvious things, again. It's become an all too familiar refrain. Hopefully, he'll get it right this time.

Be sure to have your phone ready, Deus. I'm sure Belichick will want to know how to do things the right way. :eyeroll:

if the pats can find a way to re-sign both Edelman and Talib I will be happy

BB should keep Gronk on the bench until the playoffs. It really is that simple.

If Belichick was smart he'd just trade for Fitzgerald, Johnson, and Peterson; keep them on the bench all season to avoid injuries; and win the next 3-4 SBs. I'm not sure why he doesn't understand how easy it is.

Weapons 2014:
Gronk
TE's ASJ
Lyerla

Blount
RB's Ridley
Vereen
DeAnthony Thomas

Hakeem Nicks
WR's Dobson
Amendola

That's a lot of matchup nightmares. And boo hoo about Lyerla and Nicks they can get the job done and should both be motivated neither one has murdered anyone.

The only guy I would be ok to make an extra effort, clean some cap space and go after is Jimmy Graham. There is no question mark there, Graham and Gronk would do that to DC's every sunday.

I can't even describe the football boner I would get if they ever got Jimmy Graham.

Can you imagine the offensive devastation the Patriots would unleash upon the rest of the league with Graham & Gronk on the same team.

It's nice to dream....

Why does it have to be a dream? Is he making that much more than Hernandez did?

Belichick clearly has been working on getting this 2 TE offense going for years now. Its his baby and we KNOW it works.. well barring injuries and binge backlot gangsta wackings.

I'd be interested to read your thoughts on how Belichick screwed up the following;
- Aaron Hernandez being accused of murder and being released.
- Vince Wilfork blowing out his achilles and landing on IR.
- Tommy Kelly injuring his knee and landing on IR.
- Sebastian Vollmer breaking his leg and landing on IR.
- Jerod Mayo tearing his pectoral muscle and landing on IR.
- Rob Gronkowski tearing his ACL/MCL thanks to a dirty hit and landing on IR.
- Amendola tearing a groin and being severely impeded this season (this was always a possibility).

That's only the significant injuries the team suffered causing starters to either be released or land on IR. I haven't put forward Vereen, Talib, Dennard, Spikes or any of the like who have been playing hurt or missed significant time for the Patriots.

The Pats screw up and succeed like many of the good teams in the NFL. If you can address every one of the Patriots needs every offseason, you should be working in the NFL. Obvious may be obvious when you work in isolation. There's 31 other teams with issues and cap where players can ply their trade.

If we're going to complain about anything it's probably the quality of depth behind the starters. That needs to improve because the drop off is far too significant for it to not be an issue.

I posted some of this in another thread, but anyway...

I believe that the biggest thing this team could do to help Brady and the offense is improve the Offensive Line. Solder and Vollmer are a pretty solid tandem at Tackle, and Mankins is still the best overall lineman they have and a better Guard than most in the league. Center and Right Guard could use an upgrade over Wendell and Connolly, and both Free Agency and the Draft offers plenty of promising players and prospects. By upgrading the Offensive Line, the Running Game and Passing Game should, subtly, improve.

The next biggest area to address is obviously Tight End. Rob Gronkowski is a game breaker, but can he last 16 games and will he even be the same player he once was? The Patriots need to add at least 1 (hopefully 2) more Tight Ends either through the Draft or Free Agency that can at least be the equivalent of Dennis Pitta - a big body that can move the chains and can score in the red zone. They don't need a 2nd Gronkowski, just a player that commands some respect from opposing defenses. Pitta is an available option, with the draft including Ebron, Amaro, Sefarian-Jenkins...

Despite what others claim, I think Wide Receiver and Running Back are fine as is, maybe a new player or 2 could help though.

Dobson was drafted in the 2nd round to be this team's starting X receiver, and he will be given a full offseason to develop and claim that role. He's big, has strong hands, and gets open a lot down field. He doesn't need to be Randy Moss. He doesn't need to be Demaryius Thomas or Dez Bryant. He just needs to catch most balls that are thrown to him while opening the field for players like Amendola (or Edelman). Amendola will be back given his contract, and if his groin didn't tear in week 1 I don't think Edelman would be a 1,000 yard guy. Speaking of which, slot receiver always produce with the Patriots, I don't think Edelman is half the player he is here if he were elsewhere. But regardless, the slot is covered, the outside receiver has some options... if the Patriots draft another Wide Receiver or sign a guy like Emmanuel Sanders to possibly replace Thompkins (maybe), there could be some improvement.

Running Backs are fine if Vereen stays healthy (would have if not for broken wrist) and Ridley doesn't fumble. Obviously nothing is guaranteed so I expect a few new players to be added - but the running backs are good enough to win.

Normally I would agree, but they lost to a team with just as many injuries,

Thank you. You people are insane if you think the cast of wideouts (plus Brady's age) is do-able. We overachieved. Its time to pull an 07 and load up on weapons for Brady's end of days. We fire everything we have for the next 3 years and hopefully get 1.

You're insane. Plain and simple. You clearly don't have a clue about the salary cap in any way shape or form. You don't seem to understand how this team builds.

The issues for next year aren't going to be the same as this year unless injuries run ramapant again. And injuries aren't predictable, regardless of what some people claim.

The Pats need to focus on DT/NT, CB, and TE. They also need a center and possibly a right guard or another tackle if RG is Cannon's final place.

The receivers weren't as much of an issue as people make them out to be. The O-line was a much bigger issue. Particularly Wendell and his lack of picking up stunts, twists, and delayed blitzes. More often than not, Wendell was out of position or on his back because he got flattened.

At the tight end position I'd really like to see us re-sign either Hooman or Mulligan and add Dennis Pitta or Andrew Quarless.

So basically you think we need one more receiver. I don't think anyone would disagree with that, bit Fitzgerald? Seriously? Whenever I see a post like this, I can't help but think that the poster has absolutely no idea how the salary cap works.

As good as a guy like Fitzgerald is, if you offered the Cardinals a chance to tear up his contract with no cap ramifications, they would do it in a heartbeat (same with Megatron, probably). When you pay a receiver that kind of money, you've blown pretty much your entire receivers budget at the outset.

This is why the Lions are stuck trying to play guys like Nate Burleson, Ryan Broyles, and Kris Durham as their WR2. Arizona avoided that by hitting on a draft pick (Michael Floyd), or else they would be in the same position.

Which is what the Pats have to do. They have to nail a WR draft pick. If they do that, they'll have an upper-echelon weapon in the receiving game available at a reasonable cost for most of whatever time Brady has left. Belichick clearly realizes this, which is why he invested so much draft capital at WR last year.

If we want to see a dramatic talent upgrade at WR, it's going to come in the form of improvement from the guys who are already here, a draft pick, or a middle-tier FA. Anyone who hasn't accepted that reality is going to be disappointed.

A better scenario might be Texans WR Andre Johnson. I mentioned this in another thread. Although 32 he is a stud. He has a 2014 CAP of $6.5m. The Texans Billy O is enamored with Mallet and the Texans are in CAP hell so they dump TE Owen Daniels who suffered a broken leg, now healed but is a great fit here. Get both.
How about saving WR Justin Blackmans career who has AA issues but only 24. As much talent as anyone. Talib and Moss worked. The Jags would settle cheap and his CAP is cheap.

No they didn't. Maybe you should stop parroting Phil Simms and do some research on your own so you don't look silly.

Broncos have on IR:
Ryan Clady - OT (All- PRO)
Von Miller - OLB (ALL-PRO)
Derek Wolfe - DE
Kevin Vickerson - DT
Rahim Moore - S
Stewart Bradley - Reserve LB - IRed prior to start of season
Dan Koppen - C- IRed prior to start of season
Chris Harris - CB
Lerentee McCree - OLB

Pats have on IR:
Sebastian Vollmer - OT (All-Pro)
Jerod Mayo - LB - (All-Pro)
Vince Wilfork - NT (All-Pro)
Rob Gronkowski TE (All-PRO)
Tommy Kelly - Starting DT
Brandon Spikes - Starting ILB
Josh Boyce - WR/KR

So, let's see. The Pats have 4 all pro and 6 starters and you think that is the same as losing 2 All-Pros and some mediocre players Denver was forced to start..
