Listening to people say Brady's has started to lose it and his skills are diminishing got me thinking about his 06 season when he didn't have any weapons before his record breaking season in 07. I was surprised at how close his numbers were in 06 vs 13.

That is pretty similar.

Just goes to show if we can get some guys who can spread out the defense like Moss did, or even Gronk and Hernandez who spread out the defense in different ways, it makes things so much easier for him.

If you force the defense to pick their poision, Brady is the master at identifying what the defense is giving to you, and taking it. This year they didn't have anyone that made the defense have to pick their poision.

Moss is one of the most talented receivers to ever play the game. You can't just go out and find another or San Fransisco would have found another Rice by now. The Patriots have to continue with the inside passing with Dobson and someone else stepping up on outside/over the top routes.

Just adding a healthy Gronk for 16 + games to the current group will do wonders for the Pats.

I'd worry more about the DB and and a DL that can provide some pressure.

Last year's offense was the 4th best of all time. There was no Moss.

This year's clunker of an offense was still top-10, don't forget. The pieces are there, it just needs to pan out or be refined a bit.

I will concede that the offensive line could use an upgrade, particularly at Right Guard and Center. Upgrading the OL is a subtle way to improve the production of both the passing and running games by protecting Brady and opening holes for Ridley.

Speaking of Ridley, his fumbles lead to a down year for him, no question. But he is an explosive back who has proven that he can carry the load and be a 1,000+ yard player. If Vereen can avoid the injury bug then his production in this offense would be insane. Mix in some of Bolden, Blount (if he resigns) and maybe a draft pick or FA signing and the Running Backs look solid. In today's NFL, you don't need an elite running game to win, just good enough - and the Patriots can certainly be good enough.

At Wide Receiver, because of his contract, Amendola will return. Dobson and Boyce will return as well given their draft statuses. Thompkins will come back for camp but it wouldn't surprise me to see the team sign a player (Sanders) or draft another WR who could beat out Thompkins. Edelman also remains a candidate to return. Yes, it's a bummer how the Patriots don't have an elite #1 WR like some teams do, but the players they have, given health and development, can get the job done. Slot Receivers will ALWAYS be productive in the Patriots' system - Edelman IS NOT a 1,000 yard receiver anywhere else. To compliment the slot-heavy attack, all players like Dobson/Thompkins/Boyce need to do is draw consistent coverage outside and down the field, contribute in the red zone, make a few big grabs... really, an X receiver that can get 800 yards MINIMUM with the Patriots is good enough.

The big issue with the Patriots is how after Gronkowski was placed on IR, they had absolutely no respectable threat at Tight End. When defenses know they don't have to respect the Tight End, it makes it so much easier to defend an offense. Gronkowski is obviously a game-breaking talent, but can he be counted on is now the question? If the Pats were to acquire a player like Ebron, Amaro or Sefarian-Jenkins in the draft, it adds a whole new dimension to the offense.

In short - McDaniels will be back. He, Bill and Brady will be able to address the situation, take stock in who they have and what they project to have, make additions / subtraction however they can, and scheme an offense with the hope that one of their best players wont (allegedly) kill 3 people and be gone forever.

the thing that sticks out most to me is he was sacked almost twice as often.

FIX THE O LINE AND YOU FIX OUR OFFENSIVE PROBLEMS.

So next year we have another shot at 19-0?!?!

I'm not about to call Tom Brady a liability, but his downfield accurary has declined significantly since 2007, There is a reason why this offense switched to the 'dink and dunk' after they traded moss away, because Brady functions best when he can deliver the ball to a guy who can make up the yardage by himself afterwards.

Brady most definitely needs more weapons, but not the kind who are burners who need the ball delivered to them precisely, whos who can get open on their own and find the ball.

Hakeem Nicks would be such a player, as would Larry Fitzgerald or perhaps another Tight End out of the draft, i'm not sure what the Patriots plan on doing when it finally does come time to move on from Brady, but right now he is our best chance at winning a Superbowl and they need to load up now before it is too late.

Ugh.

Every QB in the league needs a WR who an track down balls to be effective downfield.

Every QB.

No QB can throw the ball perfectly to a munchkin 50 yards downfield--except maybe Andrew Luck.

You don't think confidence has anything to do with him throwing down field? When you hardly ever take shots downfield because of personal your not going to feel good about it when you have to.

I'm sure Brady is unsure of the entire play when a deep ball is called upon. He's unsure his receiver is going to be able to get open, and he is unsure that he is going to make a perfect throw into tight coverage to a smurf of a target.

Doesn't it look different when he throws the ball to Gronk? It's the difference between a baseball pitcher that aims the ball vs. pitcher that rares back and fires it in there.
