BB rips Welker

OT....It is absolutley stunning to me how many people hate the Pats...I run into them daily, when I ask them why they can't give me a good answer.

lol, and just like videotaping, most teams all do the same...if Talib wasnt/isnt so damn injury prone, everyone would be complaining against the Refs, but since it took Talib out (which could have happened later in the game anyways considering hes so soft) its a big controversy. Can you honestly say you were surprised Talb got injured?
"Injury prone" is an ambiguity that can't be defined or proven, so I won't address that. Welker's hit was uncommon and dirty and because of that, I'm not at all surprised Talib was hurt by it. Anyone would've been hurt by it.

Simple -- because the Pats win all the time.

Straight from the NFL Rule Book:

(b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(3) Illegally launching into a defenseless opponent. It is an illegal launch if a player (i) leaves both feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and (ii) uses any part of his helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/‖hairline‖ parts) to initiate forcible contact against any part of his opponent’s body.

Edelman did neither.

I hate to be lawyerly (I'm not one) but the AND in that rule is key. You can leave your feet to hit someone, but you can't use your helmet.

He was never aiming or diving at the knees...it was all about the hips

I think the uniform Welker's wearing would make a difference in opinion, but that's not really surprising. If Welker was still in NE and made that same hit on a Denver DB (or last year on a Ravens player), some people would say "He got away with one," some would say "It's just football" and a small group would maintain it wasn't a penalty at all.

The media narrative would be completely different, though. Instead of "BB's out of line in complaining" and "The Patriots do it, too," the story line would be "What's going to be done to stop this dirty play?"

eh, not sure about that. I'm not one of those people that believes the pats is unfairly targeted by the media, every fan feels their team is somehow more persecuted than others. Most times its just paranoia. I do think Mannings get coddled but thats another story

That's irrelevant. It was an illegal hit, period. You can set a pick by standing in the guy's way but not initiate contact.

This isn't the last you've heard of this. I bet you in next year's Denver game you're going to see a New England DB crush a WR even coming close to setting up a pick. Maybe they'll have someone like Duron Harmon do it, or even a linebacker like Jamie Collins. Imagine Collins crushing you at full speed when your head is looking at Manning?

and that's football, would be very lame if broncos fans complained about it. Wouldn't be any sympathy from me

Exactly, and I would go further. You can do an illegal pick by bumping the guy or pushing him the way Hooman did. You don't need to throw a full body block at top speed.

I was kinda wondering about that. Thanks.

I don't think it's football. There would be a huge fine. We are talking about PI here. This is why Belichick said it's one of the worst plays. It would open a can of worms where DBs and WRs are hunting each other prior to a ball carrier having the ball.

Everyone knows that your head is on a swivel when someone makes a catch. Prior to that, this stuff isn't supposed to happen.

And that's why BB has a good point. I'll even suggest the hit was flagrant enough to warrant a personal foul.

but hits like this do happen, this isn't the first time and it's not the most egregious. What was unfortunate and put the spotlight on the hit is the injury ramification to Talib, but hits and plays should not be reffed based on injury consequences but rather there was malicious intent. players get picked all the time, i don't think it warrants this crusade.

The only case someone can make is that WW was blocking once Thomas caught the ball.

The problem with that argument is that the replay clearly showed WW lining up AT on the other hash before the ball reached Thomas.

You can't line someone up like that. If WW stood his ground or ran in front of AT that that would be reasonable.

What he did was BS. He was so amped up for the game and he let his better judgement get to him.

God help him if he goes over the middle next year. He'll wind up like Boggs from Shawshank Redemption.

Ah but you see it is relevant. I think it makes the hit even dirtier. I was a Welker defender up until that moment. At that moment I lost all respect for the man.
My comment was a quick reaction to early posts claiming he went after the knees. The little ****er went after a well known problem area for Talib. I think it makes it ten times worse.
I agree it was an illegal play and I believed without a doubt that there was intent to re-injure from the moment I saw the play.
You and I are on the same side. I just wasn't very clear.
You'll have to forgive me. I'm just now starting to string together coherent statements regarding last night. It's the frustration.

I might be mistaken, but I've just never seen it. I've been watching football since the 1970s and I can't remember CBs taken out with body blocks at full speed before the catch is made.

Were you been? Half the penalties I see on DBs for hits on a defenseless reciever are BS.

I think I'm rooting more against Wes than I am against Peyton in the SB.

Regardless, praying for a Seattle win

I've changed my avatar for 2 weeks ... :D

Besides ... Russell Wilson is an okay player and the Derrick Coleman story is great inspiration for all young athletes who are hearing impaired.

Don't worry. Little Wuss Welker, everyone's favorite little engine that could, will get his. What a dink he turned into.

yes, let's hope he either gets trapped in a snow globe or takes a 40 minute shower and misses the 2nd half of the SB
