Per Miguel on PatsCap.com.

The first figure is the cap hit; the second is the change in cap room if cut.
1. Tom Brady $14.8M/–$18.5M
2. Vince Wilfork $11.6M/$7.5M
3. Logan Mankins $10.5M/$2.0M
4. Jerod Mayo $7.3M/–$2.7M
5. Rob Gronkowski $5.4M/–$3.0M
6. Danny Amendola $4.6M/–$2.7M
7. Dan Connolly $4.1M/$2.5M
8. Stephen Gostkowski $3.8M/$2.5M
9. Sebastian Vollmer $3.8M/–$2.0M
10. Kyle Arrington $3.6M/–$2.7M

There's basically nothing they can do with Brady's contract; his actual salary for this year is already down to $1M.

The "ish" in the title refers to Devin McCourty, who has almost certainly hit most, if not all, of the incentives in his contract, and will likely have a cap hit north of $4M.

Note to Vince: If you show up at OTAs at around 4 spins, expect to get a call from your agent that afternoon.

Of note to me there is that 4 of those players ended the year on IR. 2 More played most if not all of the year on groin tears.

On another note I think we need to get those numbers down for Vince and Mankins and maybe a long term deal for Gostkowski could save some too. Not knowing the cap impact Connolly should probably be cut for such a large number. Not sure how much you can save here and hopefully in most cases the savings come via restructures instead of cuts.

Add this to the reported 5 mil or so we have free and it still is a pretty small number and improvements for this team will likely have to come in 3 ways 1) health (who knows if it will last but significant players will be healthy that were not on sunday) 2) improvement of the last two draft classes (the last two classes have yielded a lot of players who now have a good amount of experience what will they do with it?) 3) the draft (as always we pick toward the bottom of each round). Free Agents will be few and hopefully we can retain the key guys in out outgoing class.

If i'm Bill right now one of my first priorities is to get Wilfork and Mankins to restructure. I mean even getting them to restructure for their cap numbers to be half as much next year opens up $11 million in cap space for 2014.

How does one figure out cap hits if players are traded? Is it the same figure in red?

Several things:
  • Wilfork will either take a pay cut or get an extension or he will be cut by the start of free agency.
  • Gostkowski is in line for a new deal being his last year of his contract.
  • My guess is Mankins will get some of his $6.5 million in base salary get converted to bonus money.
  • I like Connolly, but either he takes a pay cut or gets cut. Possibly an extension with the Pats able to get out of the contract fairly easy in 2015.

They won't begin FA with only 5 million in space. They'll create some room that will allow for at least some flexibility.

You missed Aaron Hernandez 7.5M cap hit.

I will add the cap hit if traded field to the cap pages. Usually, the cap hit is the same. Only difference is when players like Brady, Amendola, and Arrington have fully guaranteed salaries.

I sure wasn't expecting Arrington to appear on this list.

This maybe a long shot. But what chance the team goes to the league citing exceptional circumstances and gets that 7.5 split over 2 seasons.

I mean it maybe a long shot, but would they get a sympathetic ear in league offices?

If we don't want Connolly at $3M for 2014, then he'll play elsewhere. He has no incentive to reduce his compensation.

I'm fine with draft a couple of offensive lineman. However, we need Connolly for 2014.

Besides, we may need Connolly to start at center.

Connolly is our starting RG. He can start at C. He is certainly worth $3M for one year.

I'm fine with an extension that would secure his service and reduce that cap by a million or so.
