The play speaks for itself: Dirty as F***

In a pick play you get in the way, "rub" him, make the DB alter his line.

Pick plays don't involve diving at the knees of the DB.

This was a lot worse than "just a pick play"

The NFL won't, but what would be sweet justice is if Welker was suspended for the Super Bowl.

I agree. But they won't do that and take a weapon away from their golden child Peyton Manning. They should suspend Welker and fine him for taking a guy out like that. It would be hypocritical of the League if they don't considering how they've enforced the rules to protect players now. This is exactly what the Saints got punished for. Man up Goodell and be consistent.

The "hard hitting" guys on WEEI this morning are ripping BB for saying this because he coached Lawrence Taylor and Rodney Harrison and they were dirty players. "Besides, isn't the intent of a football player to hurt the other team?" So says the guys that beat up BB for "running up the score." Such a bunch of BS guys.

The national media is ripping BB for saying this. They show a screen shot of the Edelman play and saying that it is proof that NE does it too. (Prisco did this and Breer followed up with "Good point, Pete.").

The local beat writers are just amazed BB said anything and most are at least supportive of the fact that they now have something to write about.

Mike Periera (sp) said that it wasn't OPI because the ball arrived as Welker hits Talib, FWIW.

He didn't dive at his knees, stop exaggerating.

Was it a dirty play? Yeah
Was it deliberate? Yeah, he swerves left to make sure he hits Talib.
Should it have been a penalty? Hell yeah. Especially after the ticky tack one called on HooMan earlier. How that doesn't get called (and the later one where Ryan is called for holding while getting picked) is something the league needs to look into.

I think I'm rooting more against Wes than I am against Peyton in the SB.

Regardless, praying for a Seattle win

Except the fact that Edelman was blocking for a guy that had the ball.

Michael Silver chiming in on Twitter:

"I promise you won't hear Brady call Welker's hit dirty."

Underlying tone, "Brady is class and BB is scum."

The pats should've been doing all the hitting, how many times were defenders near manning right after he threw the ball and didn't finish the play with a hit, they are so afraid of being penalize, sometimes it is worth it. Bring on pollard next year, just don't let him practice with the team.

I agree but no one is calling him out on it. His fellow "Knights of the Keyboard" are congratulating him on finding such an example.

Breer continues to chime in with "NE runs pick plays too!" :bricks:

Thanks for posting this.

Look at Thomas' head as he's coming off the line of scrimmage. He's clearly looking at Welker, not at Manning. He runs his pattern until he's running right at Welker, then bends back a yard or so toward the LOS and then turns his head around.

Looks to me like Edelman did not leave his feet as alleged. If not, it is a legal block. Welker runs full speed into Talib with ball in the air. We will see Friday what the league thinks.

Looking at the video a few posts above i'm going to suggest a lot of people are hugely over-reacting to this whole situation.

I'm as p*ssed as anyone about the refereeing standard this year - missing that call is just pretty typical - but Welker put his body across Talib - foul play for sure but certainly not diving at his knee or whatever people are hysterically suggesting.

I'm hugely upset that back-to-back AFCCG's have been hugely influenced by injuries to Talib - on the back of a year when we suffered unprecendented levels of key injuries - this doesn't make a Wes Welker witch hunt any more correct.

Having said all that, GO SEAHAWKS!

The play may or may not have been dirty but Welker didn't dive at Talib's knees. They hit shoulder to shoulder. If BB hadn't said it was dirty I would never have thought of it that way. A penalty certainly should have been called for OPI.

Patriots fans, and bill friggin belichick, whining about dirty plays and cheating.... Man oh man it does not get any more pot vs kettle.

The patriots run, and have run the exact same play, and also done much worse. It wasnt a dirty play. Deal with it

Please find this exact same play for me. No, Edelman's hit was not remotely the same kind of play.

I was shocked that welker wasn't flagged for a pick after that hit since Homan barely brushed a denver player and Was. I thought 'well i guess that mustn't have been a pick because they just called on about two minutes earlier on the pats'. Hooman got in somebodys way, welker took his player out.

Yes, all teams run pick/rub plays. Please show me one where the Pats' wr threw his body into that of an oncoming defender. I'll wait.
