Semi-OT: Cowher to Steeler fans: Get over Spygare

yes, Cowher said all of this before and so did Jimmy Johnson

The haters do not care about facts, and they never will.

It gave even less of a competitive advantage than things done by other people not following in the field operations guide, such as mowing the grass too short or watering the grass too much (back when we and other teams had grass fields).

Camera in the wrong place-gate was nothing compared with Denver and San Francisco circumventing the salary cap, or Indianapolis tanking a season for a draft pick

I KNEW BB's hug would pay dividends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, I feel like emailing this link to several hundred people I know.

On the one hand, I now get to like Bill Cowher.

On the other….why, why, BLOODY WHY is this crap still being talked about?

Cowher is only saying this because he was ordered to by the NFL. The league is preventing him from getting a coaching job (Do you think he wouldn't want to coach a stacked Lions team? Really?) until he said something to "clear" the Patriots. As, you know, Kraft runs the league, so this is like one of those scripted statements hostages give, like the Americans held in Iran denouncing their country.

:D
The sad part is, there are people out there who will think the paragraph above doesn't contain a trace of sarcasm.

Glad Cowher said that. And it has the added benefit of being true.

“We didn’t lose the game because of any 'Spygate,' because of them having any additional things,” Cowher told 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday. “[If] they’re guilty of anything they’re guilty of arrogance because they were told not to do something but it was something everybody does. They got caught doing it with a camera.”

Cowher, who coached the Steelers from 1992-2006, said what the Patriots did happened regularly in the NFL before the league allowed coordinators to relay plays to their quarterback and defensive signal-caller via a helmet radio.

“Stealing someone’s signals was a part of the game and everybody attempted to do that. We had people that always tried to steal signals,” said Cowher, whose 2004 team won 16 consecutive games before losing to the Patriots in the AFC title game. “What happened when we lost that game is they outplayed us. It had nothing to do with stealing signals or cheating or anything else.”

And Jets fans wept.....

Most of the greatest coaches of our lifetime dismiss the impact of Spygate yet people still refuse to accept that the impact was minimal.

What people still seem to forget is the Pats videotaped something that 60 plus thousand people sitting in the stands could see in plain sight. It isn't like they were videotaping something that thousands of people (millions if it was caught by the network cameras) couldn't see with their naked eyes. The Pats could have stolen signals legally with a guy sitting in the stands with a piece of pen and piece of paper writing down the signals for each play.

Of course I appreciate this on a fan level. But it will make no difference on public perception. People don't spew spygate nonsense to protect the integrity of the game. They latched onto it because they hate the Patriots and it warmed their little jealous bellies. They won't let this take away their excuse making.

But at least you can add this to the same comments made by Jimmy Johnson

Comments I was able to use to great effect a few years ago standing in line with a Cowboys fan who was giving me crap about my Pats gear several years ago while Christmas shopping. The dude had no clue what Johnson had said and shut right up. It was a sight to see.

It never would have been a big deal were it not for Roger and self righteous turds like Tony Dungy and Jeff Fisher blowing it out of proportion.

I wish it was September of 2007 instead of January of 2013. I also wish it were Bob Kraft saying this at that time instead of Bill Cowher saying this at this time.

But hey, how about that more recent scandal, Bountygate? :bricks:

Cowher is just posturing to take over the head coaching job when Belichick steps down ;)

I already firmly placed it as my "status update" for social media--right in the heart of Pittsburgh of course, as most of my "friends" are Steelers fans.

Bill Cowher threw me a big slow softball today, and I couldn't resist smacking it out of the park!!!

It's too bad that PFiVa's site is no longer up. This would have been a great addition.

We know it. Other team's fans know it too. But as long as the Pats continue to dominate they'll continue to use it as a convenient excuse to marginalize what this team has done and continues to do. Sad really.

I fully hear you. I'd have loved to see both Kraft/Belichick step up a bit more (or at all ;) ), but the guy I really blame is Goodell. He handled that terribly, and I think it blew up in his face too, which is why Bountygate was handled much differently IMO.

Sadly, the only real interest this will get is from Patriot fans. The haters out there will never consider reading it. One moron linked the stupid book in the comments section, more than likely instilling a conspiracy theory again.

We, as fans and ardent supporters, need to start ignoring all this "cheating" talk and move on with our love of this team and what it has done to alter the NFL. I understand ignoring it isn't easy but everytime we react to it just adds fuel to it. This net thing can be our worst enemy at times.

Go Patriots!

Don't bother, they don't wanna hear it. They'll ignore it. They just wanna hate on the Patriots cuz they can't handle them winning again and again.
