The Pats transform themselves every season but this season its more than most. This team is 2001 like in so many ways.

Peyton Manning-Tom Brady, 49ers-Seahawks a fitting final four | The MMQB with Peter King

It’s a tribute to Belichick, and to his offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels (and to Brady, quite frankly, because he won’t squawk about turning and handing it off 46 times), that the offensive transition hasn’t grounded the team. When Belichick looks back on his career, whatever happens Sunday in Denver, he’ll know that this season defined what he was as a coach. He did what the skill level of his 53 players called for him to do. He forced no square pegs into round holes. It’s the definition of what a good coach is.

Every link to a vaguely negative article generates pages of responses, but praise like this naturally meets with silence. :p

It reminds me of a time back in the '90s when I was working for a company that had king-of-the-hill Microsoft as a client. An MS executive visited our office and chided our company for using some Lotus products. My boss's boss asked which product switches it would take to make him happy.

The MS guy thought for a moment and answered with surprising candor: "You know, there's not anything that would really make me happy. Because we treat a 100% Microsoft operation as the baseline. It's what we expect."

As fans of the BB-era Pats, perhaps success and admiration have become our baseline.

I so want to see a clock killing 4th quarter drive by the Pats running attack this Sunday. With Peyton on the side line scowling as his legacy and history tick away...

A reported asked BB after the game if they had planned in advance on running so much. His response: We planned on moving the ball and scoring points. beautiful answer.

These are the ones who can crush your spirit with a 46-carry, 234-yard, six-touchdown game.
Not going to lie, I enjoyed this fluff piece. Very nice to see Scarnecchia get more recognition after a season that had many wondering if he might run out of pixie dust.

Let's just get the win and not make it personal :D.

LOL, great observation!

OT, Lotus Notes :puke:

Further on in the article..

Defensive Players of the Week

Jamie Collins, linebacker, New England. The Patriots saw past Collins’ final year at Southern Miss—the team was 0-12 last fall—and they were very glad they did Saturday night. Collins would have been an apprentice this season if not for the IR-ing of Jerod Mayo and Brandon Spikes, and against the Colts he played his first complete game of the season, logging all 65 defensive snaps and recording six tackles, a sack of Andrew Luck, an interception off Andrew Luck, two quarterback knockdowns of Andrew Luck, and one Andrew Luck pass defensed. Easy, huh? Now all Collins has to do is repeat that against Peyton Manning at altitude.

Somebody for Colarado disagrees. Shocking, I know.

Klee: Broncos can't fear the Dark Lord of Foxboro

How has he done it?

He's done it largely against Larry, Moe and Curly, who must be running the other three franchises in the AFC East. Over the past decade, the Bills, Dolphins and Jets all have averaged fewer than eight wins per season. That's for real. I looked it up.

Belichick's Patriots are not only consistent; they also start the season with five wins in the front pocket of their torn-sleeved hoody. Over the past decade, the Patriots average five wins against AFC East rivals. This is a fine way to win division titles, of which Belichick's Pats have 11.

Know what division titles get you? Home games in the playoffs. Know what home games in the playoffs get you? An excellent chance to advance in the playoffs.

If the old, tired, 'easy schedule, soft AFC East' meme isn't enough, the author then goes on to bash Belichick for his personnel decisions -all while trotting out the injury excuse card for Denver's loss earlier this season to the Patriots.

In Week 12, the Patriots beat the Broncos when Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie injured a shoulder — on a useless Hail Mary pass to end the first half — and Brady went to work on a rookie cornerback, Kayvon Webster.

We don't hear about all that. We hear Belichick is grinding through his best coaching job. The narrative misses a critical point: Belichick contributed to the attrition.

He's in charge of personnel decisions, last we heard. He drafted a gang member the other 31 teams wouldn't touch with a pair of leg irons. He let Wes Welker get away.

Credit the Dark Lord of Foxboro for overcoming the string of injuries that line his roster. But in the interest of fair assessments, don't include Aaron Hernandez and Welker on the list of standout players the Patriots are surviving without.

Belichick is without those guys because Belichick got cokcy. Spare us the violins.

To set the record straight - not that it will make any difference to those with an agenda such as the writer above - the AFC East was better than the NFC East, NFC North, NFC South, AFC North and AFC South this season. But why ruin a good story with facts? Was the columnist saying the same thing about the Colts last week? I doubt it.

2013 Records outside of own division:
30-10 -- NFC West
25-15 -- AFC West
22-18 -- AFC East
19-21 -- AFC North
19-21 -- NFC South
17-23 -- NFC North
16-24 -- NFC East
12-28 -- AFC South
