The Herald says it's not true:

It doesn't get much more ironic than that.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

I don't know how people can even watch ESPN. With their parade of buffoons, I can't even even make it through Monday Night Countdown.

I stopped watching Countdown many years ago. It's just too much fluff and not much football. Reminds me of TMZ and that kinda sheet drives me crazy. Too bad really because I used to enjoy those shows before all the nonsense.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

Fact: We Knew Spikes was playing on a compromised knee weeks prior to the week 17 buffalo matchup.

Fact: We all later found out it was a slight ligament tear

Fact: We all saw spikes reaggrevate his knee in Buffalo.

yet and still, people are actually angry at Belichick or Spikes for a unsubstantiated report from reporters from the same network that ran the john tomasse "superbowl walkthrough" story like it was true. shame.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

ESPN's spin: They needed something juicy for today and they send their dirt diggers and one sees that Spikes tweeted he was stuck in snow. So ESPN as usual doesn't care if it is false as they are one of the best at "If it's reported and talked about enough it must be true" so they have Mortensen put the report out because he's clearly an ESPN yes man and because people think if it's coming from him it must be true.

What really happened: Bill saw that Spikes was moving the worst he had all season in practice that week after aggravating it in the Bills game. He decides that Spikes playing with the injury would be more of a detriment to the team. It's possible that he was in Monday and put him through tests and clearly he hadn't improved after the weekend. But Spikes wanted to play through it and pleads his case. But Belichick had made his decision.

Remember Spikes wasn't put on IR until Monday. If Belichick was so steamed about Spikes being late wouldn't he have just put him on IR that Friday or the two days after? Yet he waited until after Monday's practice to do it.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

It doesn't get much more ironic than that.

Jeff Howe and Karen Guregian are actually pretty good—and relatively fair—in their coverage.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

Does anyone know what would happen if Brady was late or skipped practice?

Like would BB have the balls to start Mallett and go one and done?

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

Once again, ESPN barks and we march in lock step. Why are we giving so much credence to a story that doesn't make sense at all. We all know that Spikes has been hurting for most of the season. We all know that his snaps have been decreasing almost every game. We all saw that he hurt the same knee again at the end of the Buffalo game. Then after a week of rehab, the injury hasn't improved and they IR him. THAT makes sense.

The sad thing is that even here, most posters are treating the speculation as fact, almost without questioning it. It was on ESPN, so it must be true.

YUP.........typical ESPN game day ratings BS.

If BB had an issue over discipline, spikes either gets cut or put on a non football suspended list. He also wouldn't be paying him.
Furthermore, Spikes is not exactly shy and if this were true, no way would he have been silent.

All that matters is what is inside the home locker room right now and I think all is just fine. With defensive leaders such as mayo and wilfork along with the very well respected matt p and the true emotional leader of the d from the sideline -- pepper johnson, my thinking is they are just fine.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

Also, as Jeff Howe notes, this doesn't add up. Other players have been late and been suspended (and some have even started the week after), not placed on IR or threatened with release.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

Whats the tape am?
Dude seriously? You don't know what the tape am is? And you call yourself a football fan?

. . . . Ok yeah I have no idea what the hell that is either.

The NFL pays player salaries during the playoffs, and Spikes would get his share even if the Patriots released him. (See Agent's Take: A guide to NFL postseason pay - CBSSports.com for details.)

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

The only time I tune in to FESPN is when the Patriots are playing. Other than that, they are on the forbidden channels list.

This article is just another attempt to generate traffic from innuendo. FESPN could care less about facts as long as they get their own agenda rolling, and that is, pure and simple: Ratings. Ratings sells advertising, and advertising pays the bills and keeps the shareholders happy.

FESPN is Sport's Television's version of the Cleveland Browns.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

I agree. Spikes gave the team all he had by playing on 1 leg and they wanted to cut him because he was late?

The patriot way :bricks:

You are in the wrong forum. The coach you want is in New Jersey.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

Oh, and how did that work out for them? Oh yeah, Brady threw a pick on the first drive. This Spikes thing I don't really care about because he was near useless anyways. But benching one of your best players because he made foot jokes (while the Jets ran their mouths and acted like complete *******s the entire week) was ridiculous. And it hurt the team.

Let's play clue.
First hint; "while the Jets ran their mouths".
Second hint: last world championship 1968.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

I'm sure this is ESPN-created bull.

It doesn't make sense that his agent would have pushed this - would he really think that by portraying Spikes as a discipline problem in the locker room, he'd somehow be increasing his market value? I don't buy it.

Someone at ESPN saw the snowbank pic, saw the IR report, and decided to throw out a stupid story trying to link the 2.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

say buh-bye brandon.......good thumper, but that's it

Re: Brandon Spikes news: missed team meeting, was going to be released

He deliberately just weakened the run defense because of the "patriot way"

Maybe this is my pregame nerves, but this could comeback and hurt the pats.

maybe but Collins and Fletcher I think are going to respond very well for this team today. Spikes punishes but those two can also just make the tackle that needs to be made. The backs don't need to be blown up, they just need to be tackled and I believe Collins and Fletcher can make those plays...

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

The Herald says it's not true:
The really pathetic thing is that there could be zero evidence of the claims made by ESPN but they'll stick to it and never admit to being wrong nor will they be held accountable. And sadly, a large percentage of the idiots that hang on ESPN's every word as being gospel will believe.

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

If some team in the playoffs wins by running the ball right down our throat up the A and B gaps, Belichick is going to have a lot of 'splainin to do.

EDIT: That's if this report is true.

Time will tell but IMO Spikes won't be playing in New England next season.

Third hint, 28-21, 2010

Re: Brandon Spikes news: late for team meeting, was going to be released; could've pl

I dunno if I believe this story. We've seen players be late and be relegated to the bench for a quarter or two, not released. Hard to believe that BB would dump someone intentionally who could help the team right before a playoff game. Plus, why place him on injured reserve? Just release him then. I'm not buying it.
