Where does the Blount trade rank in the BB era?

Blount averaged 5 yards a carry. He's just been a beast all season. He just wears teams down ala Corey Dillon. And can break off some big runs too. Another thing I like about him was he's been a good citizen all season. He truly embraced The Patriot Way. Great trade !

sometimes i think this site needs an azzclown asylum when i read posts like this.

Except that half of the lifers here would be damned to the asylum for their commentary earlier in the season

So who had it that of demps and Blount, Blount would be the far superior return man.

So do I. He has seen the flip side of the coin in what it is like to play for a dysfunctional organization (TB) and maybe that will incline him to resign here....

I wish that were true. The public statements could be sincere or PR for his next contract. At 27, with the 30 year old wall for RBs looming, he likely has the opportunity for one really good contract. He has never received a huge deal. I would expect he would be looking for a deal that he could retire with. The dysfunctional organization considerations seems to show up when athletes got a great payday previously.

I'll remember Pat Kirwin's comments on his radio show back before the season, suggesting that Bill Belichick would likely find a very productive role for LeGarrette Blount. I never could understand all the hate on this forum for Blount. I did have to chuckle today thinking back on all of the complaints about using him as a kick returner. :rocker:

What? Belichick knows more about football than people who post on internet forums and believe post count = intelligence?

Well, chalk my mind up as blown.

Age? thats a consern? RB's play for different reasons, unlike most positions is not for money. Some play for glory or the feeling, I was like that, but their are some I played with that obsesed about that 1 yard and blocking. Blount is that kind of runner. I bet he thinks of that one yard every day in his head, and is suprised every time he breaks for more yards. As much as BB goes for 4th and 1 how much do you think a good 80% 3rd and 1 RB is worth ?
or would you rather risk the market for a unknown like Ingram? you know a sure bet HT winner that can really do the job, even when Blount is doing the job.

Yeah, okay... Blount had an awesome game. But watch him screw up and cost us in the playoffs! It will happen!

Hard to argue with that, you guys have been right about just how much Blount sucks since they got him so there is no doubt you will be right once again. Overall the people who trashed this "pathetic roster" and lambasted Belichick for his draft picks and trades have once again been proven 100% right, as they only went 12-4 with a bye again this year. It's a wonder he keeps his job when he is screwing everything up so badly.

Belichick looks giddy. Doesn't matter your past, if you're a football player, you can find a place in Foxboro.

Reiss addressed this topic in his blog this morning. Link below.

Where does Blount trade rank? - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

I don't know if I would agree with Mike's first ranking (the trade that in the end resulted in the Pats receiving Randy Moss and Jerod Mayo), only because the Joe Staley turned out to be a very good player for the Niners. While Moss and Mayo are/were very productive for the Pats, that trade is not as one-sided as others.

Reiss' rankings (trade net results):
  1. Mayo and Moss for Staley
  2. Wes Welker for a 2nd & 7th (Samson Satele and Abraham Wright)
  3. Corey Dillon for a 2nd (Madieu Williams)
  4. Vince Wilfork for a 1st (Kyle Boller)
  5. Ted Washington for a 4th (Isaac Sopoaga)
  6. Aqib Talib for a 4th (William Gholston)
  7. Blount for Demps and a 7th
  8. Matt Light for a 2nd & 6th (Dominic Raiola and Jason Glenn)
  9. Drew Bledsoe for a 1st (Ty Warren)
  10. Chandler Jones and Shane Vereen for Mark Ingram (2011 trade down)

Without spending much thought on it, I would rank those trades in this order:
  1. Wilfork
  2. Welker
  3. Light
  4. Dillon
  5. Washington
  6. Jones and Vereen
  7. Talib
  8. Warren
  9. Mayo and Moss
  10. Blount

another slight step up after tonight
