Re: SNF @ Baltimore - Do You Think We'll Get Flexed Out?l

Bears-Eagles now SNF.

What a joke, although it probably has little to do with the Pats, who consistently provide more entertaining games than anyone else. And people who think the Pats are done without Gronk are just ig-nunt.

The Ratbirds just stink, period, and won't make the playoffs (although they'll play the Pats like it's their super bowl). The Bears looked like a juggernaught last night--only problem being that they were playing against a high school-caliber defense. I'll be shocked if they make the playoffs, especially now that Rodgers is back for GB. Both the Eagles and Bears probably revert to their usual [inconsistent] selves this week and NBC might want to change it back again, lol.

I don't remember who mentioned it last season. But it has something to do with the best ratings. And if I remember correctly, Chicago and Philly markets are both top 5 in the NFL for ratings.

Word out of NY is that CBS got Pats-Ravens back for the fiasco with Broncos-Chiefs. Story is CBS protected the game (Broncos-Chiefs) originally but the NFL promised CBS reparations in this game and they took it. So NBC flexed under the premise that it was a better matchup when in reality, CBS is just getting their end of the deal fulfilled. Riveting stuff!

HAS to be because this game would have had huge ratings. so pissed was looking forward to watching this on nbc now have to beg to get work off ugh...bears arent even going to make the playoffs. ..

They are the 3 (Chicago) and 4 (Philly) media markets, period, and both draw huge football ratings. No doubt it will draw big numbers but so would the Pats vs Ravens. As I said before though, I'm glad they flexed it out. I hate night games and I really hate night games in places like Baltimore.

Wow, I'm really surprised by this.

First off the Pats-Ravens game is not a dud; both teams would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Has a game ever been flexed out of SNF when that was the situation between those two clubs, other than in week 17?

More surprisingly is the replacement. To me if it was going to be flexed out, Indy-KC or New Orleans-Carolina made a lot more sense (though as pointed out previously, it was doubtful that they would put the same two teams on SNF in the span of three weeks).

In theory flex scheduling is done to get a better game, but consider the current combined records of the teams involved:

  • 19-7 -- Saints-Panthers
  • 18-8 -- Chiefs-Colts
  • 17-9 -- Patriots-Ravens
  • 13-11 -- Bears-Eagles

While I can somewhat see the argument that a win or loss to Chicago or Philly is more critical than it is to the Pats, Chiefs or Colts, it's still a head-scratcher in my opinion. I don't see enough of a need to change all the logistics for those going to the game.

I'm waiting for Joker's post where he explains how it's a plot by Roger Goodell to destroy the Pats and promote the Jets. Getting my 'Like" button ready.

When I first replied in this post i really didn't think there was a chance of this game being moved. I am glad it is, I hate night games also. The things that seems silly to me is if Chicago and Philli were the bigger markets the entire time then why weren't they scheduled to be the night game the entire time? I guess it is because there was no gaurantee they would both still be in the play off picture but still. If they are the bigger draw

Good call by the OP, when he posted it i didn't see it happening. NE-Baltimore is a good match-up every year, and I really didn't see them bumping last year's AFCCG teams.

OK, now this makes sense......

Like the rest of you I was wondering why such a great match-up was pulled from SNF. According to PFT, if they didn't give this game back to CBS, the NFL would have been stuck with only being able to pull a game from FOX in week 17. doubling the chances that they would be showing a completely meaningless game. Because they gave this game back to CBS, the NFL is now free to pull whatever game they want for the final week (more than likley a battle between two teams in the same division for the divisoin title.

Other than gambling on Jets / Dolphins being in the mix at week 17 what AFC game would be exciting and get Ratings ?

I am thinking they are making room for Ravens/Bengals where the Bengals could be playing for a bye and the Ravens could be playing for that 6th playoff spot. And it could be a preview of the game the next week in the Wild Card round with the Ravens going back to Cincy.

Oh well. Hopefully CBS airs it in my market (New York). I do not want to be stuck watching the terrible Giants. Might be the RedZone channel for me...

Looking at the schedule again I am noticing Ravens/Lions is the MNF week 15 game.
I think NBC is afraid of Ravens fatigue.

Re: Why did they flex out Pats-Ravens again?

LOL. Can they flex it back once they've moved it? I wanted the later game as I have tickets to a concert that afternoon. Now I am going to miss at least half the game and will have to run to a bar showing it to see the other half.

Re: Why did they flex out Pats-Ravens again?

Who cares? I'd rather the game be during the day anyway so I can sleep that night.
