Rob Gronkowski injury: torn ACL, MCL

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

The fact that you think a high school level instructional video applies to the NFL pretty much says all we need to know about you.

The tackle was clean and there was no deliberate intent to injure. The desire some in here have to constantly feel persecuted by the league, by the refs, by the opponents, etc, does nothing to change that.

Who feels persecuted. I sit and watch all weekend college and pro ball, and 90% of the defenders couldn't tackle correctly if their lives depended on them. The Gronk tackle is another example.

Just like if you watch college and pro basketball, you will see examples of double dribbling and traveling all day long without being called.

Just because you disagree doesn't take a way from the fact that the Gronk tackle was a TEXTBOOK example of a poorly performed form tackle.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

Yeah there are some horror show knee injuries where the lower leg hyper-extends to crazy crazy lengths and that's when you get the tear of every tendon in the knee. My only worry is Gronk may not have a full tear but a partial one which still needs fixing even if it sounds not as bad.

Lindsey Vonn partially re-tore her ACL after tearing it fully not so long ago and she's already penciled in for Sochi so the partial tear isn't as bad it's just whether iafter immediate surgery is done can we get Gronk back for the playoffs where hopefully we have a bye.

Yep. I hope its just a partial to a bad bruise and not fully torn. We really need him. We have to get good luck in the injury department soon. Not all this bad luck injuries.

Just out of curiosity, what gives you any impression that he could possibly be back for the playoffs, or better yet--that he didn't tear his ACL?

What game were you watching today? The guy went down screaming. You could clearly hear him on the mic feeds. On top of that, it looked much worse than even Brady's horrible situation in 2008. Gronk couldn't even manage to limp a step or two to get onto the cart.

They couldn't even do an MRI tonight due to the swelling being so bad, and the general perception on the team and in the media is that he suffered a terrible, major injury. This is how these things work. The doctors, trainers, medical staff all have a pretty good idea as to what's going on, and word leaks for pretty much any injury these days.

After witnessing all of this, hearing all of this, and reading articles, tweets, comments, etc--how do you come to the conclusion that he could possibly return in a month's time for the playoffs? I just don't understand the logic. You sound like the one or two guys who still swear that Aaron Hernandez didn't do anything wrong, and that it's all a big media conspiracy. I'm just wondering how one takes this all in and comes to the kind of conclusion that you do?

The truth of the matter is that when a DB much smaller than a 6'7" 270 lb monster attempts to tackle someone, he is going to use any means necessary to bring him down; especially when he's been fined 3 times and been threatened with suspension already for going too high.

I agree that it's not the typical old school "form tackle," but in today's NFL bodies are being thrown everywhere at high speed violent collisions. I'm not saying that necessarily makes it "right," but unfortunately that's just the way that it is. Ward had to make a quick decision or get run over. He threw his body at his legs. It is what it is. It's a very violent sport and this can happen on any given play. Unfortunately the old school standards are not being passed down as much as in the past, but I don't think Ward did it intentionally, nor do I think much will be done about it.

Supa, the human body is resilient. It looked pretty bad, I Think its a 99.99999999999% acl tear. But looking at that, there is a possibility that its not as bad. The way the leg moved with the hit. Idk, but I think there might be a sliver of hope it isn't as bad as said.

Now I never heard that it was swollen to the point of no MRI. Can you post the tweet.

I watched gifs and the replays, and it just for some odd reason I don't think its as bad. I know I am being extremely optimistic, and odds are its a acl tear. But sometimes, we get lucky. Idk, but maybe I am bonkers after the win Hahahahahahaha.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

I would have rather lost by 50 points to the Jets than to have this happen to Gronk. Why did it have to be him?

Honestly, it's hard to see Gronk playing in the NFL in five more years. All these injuries are breaking him piece by piece.

That is at least a very reasonable explanation, so thanks for clarifying.

I was just wondering in all seriousness how this was even being discussed, that's all. I'm not trying to be a ****--honestly. I just wondered if there was a new rumor or something that I was missing, and I think we're all in a bit of a short mood to some degree.

As far as the MRI goes, that is the general protocol when the swelling is so bad. They simply have to wait until the next day to get proper results. Considering the fact that they have the top of the line medical equipment and a ton of clout to get him expedited through the process ASAP, one would think that they could have done tests this afternoon/evening otherwise.

We've seen this plenty of times with major injuries. Usually there's a general feeling that night, and then they do a last confirmatory test the next day and make an official announcement. Hopefully there is still a glimmer of hope, but I'm doubting it myself.

Agreed, I just get a laugh at the the ignorant people having the nerve to call it a textbook tackle, when it's the furthest thing from it. There are parts of the body below the chest and above the knees that can be tackled. But due to defenders poor tackling technique and/or low IQ's, they feel that if they can't hit you in the mouth, the only other place they can hit you is your lower leg. Seriously, what's the difference between what he did and a crack back block, which is outlawed. What's the difference between what he did and the so called "Brady rule" which comes with a fine and a 15 yard penalty.

Yeah, to be honest I just think everything happens so quickly at this level, that they have to react in any way possible to try and bring the guy down. Unfortunately, it seems like Goodell has beat the drum of the high tackles so hard that he has kind of forced things to go in this direction, but that may just be my own personal bias coming into play too.

Gronk was hurt today. Before he was hurt, hoomanawanui was #2 on the depth chart. That makes TE a need

Definitely.

It seems strange to look back now at a position that so many felt would make us the strongest in the league, and see Hooman/Mulligan as the top 2 options. It's a damn shame, really.

My only hope is this:

It looks like a torn ACL, everybody reported it as such. The swelling was too bad to perform an MRI. He was out 5 weeks.

I hear that.

From your mouth to God's ears.

My concern would be the major difference in speed, force, and collision however. Today's hit was much more violent.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

That's terrible if he got injured again. Poor guy can't catch a break, but he is a special player. It's always a shame when an all-time great talent has an injury riddled career. He is still young though, maybe he'll have more luck in the future, and will be able to string together 3-4 healthy seasons.

Tackling Gronk up high doesnt stop him. Everyone has seen him drag 2 - 3 players draped all over him down the field.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

Its a shame really. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a case of a player that could have been known as the GOAT if not for injuries. It almost feels like a Cam Neely like situation all over again. A guy that's just so good and dominate over everyone else, but injury hold him back.

Gronk is such a joy to watch. How can you not smile when you watch him doing his thing. Great catches, blocks, running thru defenders, Gronk Spike, etc. It's a damn shame what's happened to his career. The 2pct of you lunatics who think he should be saying his prayers and taking his vitamins while rehabbing like your fake idol Hulk Hogan need to stick to the WWF.

Re: Report: Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL

I've reached the point where I'm seriously getting used to the idea of a life without Gronk. Unfortunately.

I Hope it's a normal ACL tear which is already severe, but I'm afraid for something like Jake Ballard's injury.

Well, I'm not trying to blame no one on this play although I think Ward could have tackled shoulder to shoulder (I need to double check that), anyway, I was afraid of something like that coming. Gronk is an absolute beast but he doesn't protect himself and he should, he was already banged up and he's the franchise best weapon on the offense along with Brady.

Gronk run over defenses without breaks but it's not hard to imagine that someday he wouldn't. I respect his style of play, so much energy, effort, but sometimes for what? 5 extra yards? He gets the first down, the YAC, and keep going, ok, is he supposed to do anything different? Of course not but he's gotta play smart, give up some yards and protect himself and the franchise just like Brady does.

He will come back next season, with knee brace, cast on his arm, all sorts of protection, a Cyborg, GRONKBORG, and will blow defenses AGAIN.
I just hope BB sets a new game plan for him and Gronk gets the idea of having the first down and enough.

I think the Neely comparison is a good one. Both dynamic and physical players. Unfortunately for the Patriots Gronk will never deliver the 6 - 7 great years that Neely did before injuries started to took their toll on him.
Gronk has delivered one year without injury.
Btw Adam Shefter just made a good point. The reason Gronk slipped in the college draft was because of his injury history in college. He is what he is. It's sad really.
The Patriots need to move on from it.
