2014 Draft Needs

I think our run defense did a great job Monday Night. Shows to me that limited players with proper technique and some depth are ok versus the run. We lacked a pass rush. I feel it shows we don't need a big ol fattie to plug the middle. I think pass-rusher is emerging as the top need for our defense. Draft looks pretty poor in that area, but if anyone emerges late. A la Chandler Jones. That's where I'm picking. On offense it's still a te and an interior ol or two. I'm assuming we franchise or extend Talib.

isnt Soap the fatty?

I'm sold on Harmon/Gregory as #2/#3 safeties in 2014.
I'm sold on Dobson/Thompkins improving in the offseason and becoming fine #2/#3 WRs.
I'm sold on Fletcher/Collins as #2/#3 LBs behind Mayo in 2014. If Hightower becomes anything useful, that's a bonus.

As long as Talib is resigned, let's draft some studs on the OL/DL now please, with maybe a 3rd-4th round RB thrown in there.

1. Best OL/DL available
2. Best OL/DL available
3. Garoppolo
4. Best RB/TE available

I'd trade a 6th for Mark Ingram if the Saints are willing and see if we can resurrect his career. He has excellent ball security.

I remember you mentioning that earlier. That trade would make sense for both sides. Maybe a change of scenery would do him good. He does have a career 4.0ypc which is respectable, unlike Richardson's pathetic 3.3ypc.

I take back what I said last week. Run defense was horrendous. Mercy.

Oh.

That's right.

We've...got one.

Some of those young guys performances are clarifying our draft needs. IMO we need a te and 2 OL for the offense. On defense I'd still go with a de, olb and cb. If Wilfork and Kelly aren't healthy draft day. Then, DT moves up.

1. DT
2. CB

Reverse the order if Talib isn't resigned. The rest is background music.

I'm a fan of Oklahoma's CB Aaron Colvin, whom we could get in the 2nd or even 3rd.

CB is way down on my needs list if Talib is signed. We will have for the next few years Talib, Dennard, Arrington and Logan Ryan. I am very happy with those 4.

DL, OL and TE for me please

If we take a CB or even two, I'd love to pick from either Dennard, Roby, Gilbert, Colvin, Purifoy, Roberson, Joyner, Swann, ****rell, or Belue. I'd like to personally draft two and would love to see us take Dennard in the second and Roberson or Joyner later on, maybe sign Belue or ****rell post-draft

OL: Travis Swanson, Hroniss Grasu, Bryan Stork, John Urschel, Kouandjio brothers, Kenarious Gates
TE: Amaro, Lynch, Jacob Pedersen, Colt Lyerla, Jake Long

You're right, I'm wrong.

But let's move TE higher up, just behind DL, which is critical. The offense is suffering without another viable offensive weapon at TE. There were several critical offensive situations where we could have used the Murderer's elusive talents.

We need someone to do a thread on this position.

I noticed TB12 is using Vereen on those passes he would make to AH normally

As of right now, I'd put our needs as (not in order) OG, RB (play-maker with safe hands), QB (Mallett trade), TE (maybe 2), WR (if Jules is gone), DT, LB, CB. Some of these needs are obviously less needed than overs (QB, WR, RB)

Yup. I wonder how many snaps a rookie TE would get, particularly if they re-sign Edelman. I'd much rather find a day 2 or 3 Gronk backup and Mulligan replacement (Fiedorowicz perhaps). Not that I'd be disappointed with Ebron or Amaro.

I really disagree with this line of thinking. Football is such a physical sport and players get banged up every game. Especially since there is room for multiple corners, linebackers and linemen on the field, I think the best defensive player on the board is the biggest need for the Patriots, no matter the position. There is no phase where the defense is elite so an upgrade at any position is needed. In the 1st round I hope the Patriots pick the best defensive player on the board unless there is a game changing offensive player. Later rounds is were you build your depth.

OL and DL. I would like 2 of each.

Excellent discussion. I think Bill Parcells would agree with you. That's the way he thought. The only exception would be a bona fide difference-maker TE, which I tend to doubt.
