Re: Brady AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones AFC Def. Player of Mont

You lost me on Coples and Pace. Both are average at best.

Speaking of Coples, how much is Rex kicking himself for taking him over Chandler Jones. Imagine their defensive front if you swapped Coples for Chandler?

Jet's coaching staff are idiots. They moved Coples to LB, a 6'6" 285 OLB. He had 5.5 sacks a s a rookie DE (half a sack less than Jones). BUT, Coples has been disruptive vs the running game, and has gotten pressure on the QB, but not as much as last year, only 1.5 sacks. I agree, If the Jets had taken Jones, their defense would be very scary to deal with. Not to diss the Jets or Jones, but Coples was the consensus as the better player prior to that draft. Some had Jones as a 3rd round pick, and MOST had Coples going in the top 10. Personally, I think the Jets are using him wrong (and I'm happy about that). If they ever got a clue, a Wilkerson/Coples DE tandem along with Richardson and Harrison as DT's would be much more dangerous. But what the hell do I know ? lol.

I am actually a little surprised Brady wasn't also named the player of the month for November... Just look at his stats in the three games he's played in:

Record: 2-1
Completions: 86
Attempts: 123
Completion %: 69.92
Yards: 1,072
Yards Per Game: 357.33
Yards Per Attempt: 8.72
TD: 8
INT: 1*
QB Rating: 114.96

* Denotes should've been Pass Interference.

From Christopher Price:

It is not only surprising that the last time a Patriot player won AFC Defensive player of the month in 2004, but that it was Eugene Wilson who won it.

Geeenooo. He had a lot of promise after two championship seasons but sadly never played at the same level again.

That's not true. Coples was widely regarded as a guy with a ton of physical talent but questionable work ethic, questionable motor, and was raw in enough ways that some wondered how his skills would translate to the pros. Between being bad with his hands and lacking lateral quickness, his ability to set the edge was a real concern when he was drafted, and remains one still. There were definitely divided opinions re: Coples vs. Jones, but it's simply not true that there was a consensus there.

"I'm gonna make a statement," said Mayock. "Three years from now, I'm gonna say Chandler Jones is the best defensive player to come out of this draft." Chimed in Lombardi, "I think what Mike Mayock said is right. He is the best defensive player in the draft."

Conversely, anyone who had Jones as a third round pick was an idiot. He was an obvious first round talent. The only knock on him was that he was undersized, and he was only undersized because he didn't know if he'd be asked to be a DE or OLB. After weighing in at 247 for the combine, he's now playing at 270, which means that the only real question mark about him is now a distant memory.

Jones is clearly much better than Coples at this point, and was clearly much better last year before injuring his ankle.

I thought Brady was clearly better than Roethlisberger as well, but what can you do.

Jones is a way better player than Coples, but I'm not sure where he would fit on the Jets' D. He'd fare better at OLB than Coples has, so he'd definitely be an upgrade, but I doubt he would be as effective in that role as he's been for the Pats as a DE/DT.

Coples is living up to why people had red flags on him. He is wildly inconsistent and takes plays off.

Also, his play last year was not indicative of his play. He would flash at times as a stud, but he was mostly mediocre.

I do agree that Coples is miscast at OLB. But he really doesn't have a place in their current defense. Their d-line is strong with Richardson, Wilkerson, and Harrison. I would say they would be better off trading him to a 4-3 team that could use him inside like the Pats use Jones inside or the Texans use JJ Watt inside.

Re: Brady AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones AFC Def. Player of Mont

A few thoughts from this less-than-experienced eye from across the pond....

Jones has been excellent, really really happy for him......I would have picked Watt though.

Wilkerson is a beast, those of us who frequent the Draft forum often had a major crush on him. Richardson less so, certainly in the 3-4, but I'd have loved him as a DT. The Jets have hit two huge home runs there. Damon Harrison is incredibly under-rated. He dominated us twice and has been fantastic every time I've seen the OG OG J-T-S-E this year. I don't think they're the same playing in a 4-3 though. Wilkerson isn't a 4-3 DE. Unless you play Richardson there and MW inside.....

The Pats need to take a leaf out of the Jets book as daft as it sounds. They do well in recognising players that fit their scheme, mostly (*cough* COPLES *cough*), certainly up front anyway. We desperately require a playmaking DT and a run-stuffer to take up the slack up front.

While I'm happy for Brady, this means that Rivers got screwed.

Re: Brady AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones AFC Def. Player of Mont

People are actually comparing Quinton Coples to Chandler?

Chandler is on his way to being one of the best DEs in the league, if he isn't there already. Coples is on his way to being another Jet bust. Not on Gholston level, but a bust nonetheless.

Re: Brady AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones AFC Def. Player of Mont

I didn't realize Vrabel's POTM award was way back in 2003. I did recall that it was the same season he had a broken hand. Way to come back from injury!

He didn't make the Pro Bowl until 2007. But so be it; he was a career-achievement-award Pro Bowl level of player, but not quite worthy of being a perennial Pro Bowler.
