Do you even respect Peyton Manning?

Did any one see the audible where Brady calmly moved Gronk around, and some other player?

Just because Manning sqaaaks like a bird and flaps his arms at the line doenst make him great.

See my signature file, stolen from fellow poster IceIceBrady....

Manning is amazing, but not perfect.

Yep he did

Also, when Brady called out some power formation, and every one, including me, thought it was a run and it was a pass. Wide open.

I respect Manning, but I don't fear him like I used to. Some of those throws the other night are throws that he used to complete with regularity. The long pass down the sideline to Thomas, for example. He was blanketed by Talib, but the Manning of old would have been able to put the ball where only Thomas would have been able to catch it a few years ago. He's simply not capable of doing that anymore and, as the season goes on, his arm gets weaker and weaker. If anybody has trouble believing that, then ask yourselves this: in 2004-2009, do you think Belichick would have ever blatently dared Manning to throw it down the field and outside the numbers?

Pretty much exactly this. Physically, he can't make throws that he used to make, especially in less-than-ideal weather. If he was still playing in a dome in Indy, I would fear him more, but the fact is that, if we see him again, it will be either at Mile High in January or at Gillette in January, and I like our chances in either setting.

That said, I still respect the hell out of him and I'll never feel comfortable with the Pats going against him. He's a really, really good quarterback. All-time great that we've been lucky to get to watch.

Peyton Manning is an essential part of the Patriots 2001-present experience. He's a good guy who has often been a worthy foe and kept us from a ring in 2006 (no way the Bears beat us)

I respect the **** out of him anyone who doesn't is too biased to see what a great competitor and, by all accounts, decent human being.

Tom Brady respects the **** out of him. That's a good enough endorsement for me.

I can't believe this question even gets asked. Please name any other profession where someone rises to the top .1% of people who do it and there is question about whether they are respectable or not. Absurd.

While you're playing this game, if I'm a Ravens or Giants fan, I don't even respect Tom Brady.

Stupid thread is stupid.

If talib doesnt make that play in OT or welker doesnt drop the ball in OT and they win the game , you are not making this thread. I respect manning but this thread is somewhat disrespectful. As I posted elsewhere, I rewatched OT yesterday and he played well in OT. Our offense was not good in OT and fortunately talib made that play else he wouldve had a good chance to drive them home. We make the same kind of threads about brady after losses so Iam not surprised. Iam glad we have brady but manning is one of the all time greats. His media fawning though is what bothers me..

Did you miss 2007? When Brady had the best weapons it was a joke. Yeah, they lost in the end, but Manning has lost many times with elite weapons. Manning isn't better than Brady with elite weapons, he's just had them more often.

I think you're missing my point.....

I just hate the media fascination over him when the guy from New England had to work for everything he has earned since High School. Manning was gifted with everything that he needed to be successful...Tom just worked hard and kept working and never looked back outdoing the chosen one the one who had everything given to him yet people hate Tom Brady and his ashes to glory story and love Peyton his always having the advantage and media darling. That's what makes me appreciate Tom Brady as my QB even more and disgusts me seeing people actually comparing the two.

It's funny but I had a boss a few years ago that tried everything he could to convince me that your point is the other way around. He told me that Brady is not a hard worker and was just blessed with great physical gifts. Manning had to work and blah blah blah. He also tried to convince me that Tom Brady was nothing but a system QB and would not flourish without BB and the system. It was painful to sit next to the man. I really thought he was crazy.

With all that said, I absolutely respect and even admire the guy. He's everything a professional and competitor should be. He's the second best QB of this generation. He's one of the greatest players ever. He has a computer for a brain that calculates information quickly and accurately. Like him or not, how can you not respect him? As someone said more eloquently than me, you can't blame him for the media. He cannot control that and more than Tom can control how the media vilifies him and everything NE Patriots. Peyton should be respected for what he means to the game, and the game is bigger than Brady vs Manning, New England Patriots, etc.

Good thing he's an ex-boss, eh?

Peyton Manning deserves respect from EVERY football fan. He is a student of the game and works extremely hard at it. He is a slam-dunk Hall of Famer. Like others I get sick and tired of his ubiquitous media presence and stupid commercials. I want him to fail in Denver and love seeing him get beat. But like it or not, he's one of the all-time great quarterbacks.

Wow,

I can't even believe this is a question.

One of the all time greatest players to ever play the game.

How can you not respect him.

He is an unbelievable player.

im 50% sure peyton does that crap to disrupt and confuse the defense. Peyton could be talking gibberish and the defense would move around like a chicken.

I can't believe this question even gets asked. Please name any other profession where someone rises to the top .1% of people who do it and there is question about whether they are respectable or not. Absurd.

Rob Ford is mayor of Toronto. He's a lying crackhead that utilizes public resources for personal pursuits. He's a drunk. He uses his cellphone while he drives and then flips off people who tell him he shouldn't. Etc. (He's literally made too many transgressions to post, and they come on an almost if not daily basis. He can't even hire a fitness instructor who isn't dinged for trafficking roids.)

So it is possible to rise to the top of a profession and not be respectable.

I will also say I don't think that's the case here, but this is ALWAYS a good question to ask, if for no other purpose than as a logic exercise the next time it's asked about someone different. I would also understand someone thinking he's overrated. (I'm nearly in this camp, but have seen enough to talk myself out of it.)

EDIT: Actually, in retrospect, I DO think he's overrated. The media darling thing is way out of control with regard to Manning, so that much is at least true.

It takes a special kind of irrational approach to the game to not respect Peyton Manning. He's one of the best QBs to ever play the game. He may be a choking dog when the playoffs hit, but he's a top 15 All-timer.

Fear him? No, especially not now, when his arm is clearly not what it once was.

Respect him? Absolutely.

Agreed, just because we love Brady, doesn't mean that have to demonize Manning. Manning is a great QB, I enjoy watching him play and I enjoy watching the Patriots beat him.

Is this is one of those I love Brady, go f@#$ everyone else topics?

Manning is one of the greatest QBS of all time, ALL TIME! With his production and media hype, he's always built to be deemed the greatest quarter-back of all time.

But you know f#@$ him, because Brady is better! You don't need your homer shades to determine that.

If I recall correctly, Tom Brady has had a personal QB coach since he was 10 years old. He came from a rather privileged background too.

Huh? You're saying that the backup QB on a winless team that never scored a TD the entire season and wasn't good enough to play even 1 snap during the entire season had had a QB coach for the prior 4 years? :bricks: :bricks:

I don't think so.

I can't respect any man who would hitch his name to the soggy cardboard that is Papa John's pizza.

But as a football player? Only a vindictive ignoramus wouldn't respect him as a football player.
