Broncos fans must be crappin' bricks right now

I just wouldn't want to delude the board that the Pats or any other team will have the game sewn up in the bag against Peyton in the playoffs, particularly if that game is at Mile High.

Or even home in Foxborough for that matter....

I am insanely happy that we were able to pull it off last night, but that certainly doesn't mean that I am confident about having to face Manning and the Broncos again the playoffs. They have an excellent team.

As far as "Broncos fans must be crappin' bricks right now," I think that's ridiculous. They will most likely get a first round bye and win their division still. One game in November doesn't equate to anything. The odds are very good that they either go 14-2 or 13-3. Why would their fans be "crappin' bricks?" Because they lost a very close game on the road in overtime to an equal opponent? That's insane.

Their team is on equal ground with ours--at worst. They have better talent, and even though we're missing a lot of key guys, they were missing their top 2 corners (DRC and Bailey) and their leading TD scorer in J.Thomas. I would not go getting to excited at the possibility to face them again myself, although the average homer or fan won't agree due to the high they're on from last night.

I think we'd have an excellent shot, but the 2 teams are pretty evenly matched and it would most likely go down to the wire again in my opinion.

Maybe because three flukey first-five-minute turn overs gave them a free 17 point lead and they still lost?

I really hate how stupidly polite our fan base has become since the helmet catch.

Sometimes you gotta' call a spade a spade, a play off choking quarterback a play off choking quarterback, a soft team `full of talent` a soft team despite its alleged talent, and a problem a problem.

Brady torches Denver and Belichick has Manning's number. We may not win the Superbowl this year, and we may not make the Superbowl this year, but in either case, it isn't gonna' be because we lost to the #^@%ing Broncos, I will promise you that.

I water at the mouth at the thought of the path to Metlife going through Peyton and his soft as Bronco team this winter.

Eh, I think when you try to say that game is abysmal is just reiterates how good Manning is. Sure, Brady outplayed him by a mile but it still wasn't that bad given the conditions. Also on the game tying TD drive he made some incredible passes.

Manning was a moron going to Denver over Arizona. If memory serves, his primary reason for making that choice was he didn't want to have to face his brother in the playoffs. That would not exactly have been a problem over the past 2 years. :singing: :singing:

He should have gone to SF. He would have gotten his second ring already.

He should have gone to SF. He would have gotten his second ring already.

I really have no idea why he didn't do that. San Fran was the most ready team he could have possibly gone to in order to win a Super Bowl. I understand he didn't want to play his brother, but the Giants are only really good one year then mediocre to terrible the next few years.

I don't know if anyone has the numbers offhand, but when you think of Brady and bad weather since the SB era (i.e exclude tuck game, tennessee, etc), you think about the Arizona game, you think about the bears game with branch at the end of the half and you think about the Tennessee game. All three the analysts were saying there would be 100 yards passing and all three the Pats exploded. I guess there is merit to the belief that in bad weather the DB is disadvantaged more than the WR so if you have a QB with Big 10 genes who has 12-13 yrs of cold weather experience, you are in great shape.

I don't know how people could defend Manning's game as "good"

But if 150 yards on 36 attempts 2tds and an interception is good what do you call bradys performance? 300+ yards 3tds and no picks INTO the wind for most of them

I'm sorry but manning can't perform in cold weather or in adverse conditions..he has a below 50% playoff record with 8 one and dones

I noticed the hands of both QBs:

manning wore those thick rubberized kitchen-dish-looking glove things on BOTH HANDS.

TB kept his right hand in the warmer and wore NO GLOVE on that hand.

I remember years back TB tried going with a glove (when he was injured I believe) and said he had no feel; so he stopped it.

Part of Pay-me-a-ton's lower cold stats might be the gloves and not just the general wimpiness about the cold of a Louisiana-Dome boy. I just hope he keeps wearing them for the next 2 months.

I'm not being a homer, just calling it as it is: 150 yards in 36 attempts is pretty darn bad. And the offense pretty much generated only 14 points in 72 minutes of football.

That is what's called getting to the point.

If they can beat KC, then their remaining road games are @ Houston at @ Oakland, so they have no more cold weather road games at all.

They could be fine, unless those wounded ducks are not solely due to cold and wind. Arguably a turning point in Manning's season was a sack by Robert Mathis a few weeks back. Maybe it loosened a neck bolt, because the ball has been quacking extra loudly ever since.

I disagree that it is being "stupidly polite". I would say "rational and objective".

I am as happy as you that Brady and the rest of the offense played well in the second half. Denver's top 2 CBs out was not the sole reason, but it didn't hurt. The Pats offense didn't look as good in OT.

We were one fluke play away from either a tie or losing this game. What kind of chest puffing would be going on in this forum if that was the outcome... especially a loss?

While we may have "spotted them" 17 points in the 1st half due to dumb or fluky turnovers, they had similar things happen to them in the 2nd half. It works both ways. Do you really think this a case of our turnovers are all flukes, but their turnovers are all just great defensive play?

Peyton can't play worth a d@mn in cold weather, but some of the low passing yards were a product of the Pats defensive scheme.

Denver is vulnerable and their fans do have issues to worry about.

We have our own issues to think about... such as a subpar run stopping defense (not just this game), our best RB has fumblitis, we are pretty thin on the Oline, and the receiving core (while much improved) is still not as good as it needs to be in order for the Pats to win a SB.

I don't think it's as black and white as Manning is terrible in the cold. Yes, it's true, he certainly struggled with velocity last night and that was in contrast to arguably the best cold weather QB of all-time. However, the Broncos still have plenty of hope.

1. Julius Thomas was a major loss, as tight ends have ripped that Pats defense this year. The Patriots match up extremely well with Denver if J. Thomas is out, since Talib might be the league's best matchup versus D. Thomas while their #2 corner (Dennard/Ryan) is also very adequate to contain Decker. Jacob Tamme roasted the Pats last night, so just imagine what J. Thomas might have done.

2. Manning is also playing with a high ankle sprain, and last night's game was REALLY cold, not just cold. I'm not sure that they'll need to deal with such extreme wind chill again.

3. Biggest point is that the Patriots allowed 400 plus yards to the Broncos because they completely sold out to the pass all game, figuring it's better to allow 6 yard runs than 40 yard passes. Manning did not play as badly as people on here are making it out to be. He took what the defense gave him for the most part, and the Broncos had some success moving the football. Had Manning really been as awful as pundits are claiming, why not just stack 8 in the box to stop the run? I think we know the answer to that.

4. Not trying to defend Manning- again he didn't play well and often struggles in the cold- but I hardly think Denver is cooked. If I were a Broncos fan, I would be much more concerned about that defense. I think they are pretenders on that side of the ball.
This is very fair. Some of us should be looking at ourselves when we make fun of other fans, Broncos fans in this case. For as overzealous as they are in defending Manning, some of our fans are just as overzealous in predicting his demise and that of the Broncos. The man is a legendary QB that, while he has struggled in cold weather, is dealing with some issues that have nothing to do with simply sucking in the cold. You pointed out quite of few of them.

At the end of the day, I don't take any playoff team lightly. We know all too well that anything can happen no matter how a team looks/plays in the regular season. All bets are off and you have to bring your A-game in the playoffs no matter what pundits, past statistics, or fans have to say about it. Games are won and lost on the field and, just like I would never count out Tom Brady, I am not counting out Peyton Manning.

I don't know how anyone can say manning had a good game...every pass he threw was a wobbly duck or a knuckle ball...the pats dared him to pass outside and he couldnt

I'm not saying he didn't have a bad game and I respect your opinion, but this statement is untrue. Go back and watch the last drive in particular. He threw some lasers in very tight windows on a few passes on that drive alone. There was one pass that was especially impressive on the sideline to Thomas. Talib had a pretty good break on the ball and came within an inch or two of making the play. I believe if that was Geno Smith or some other lesser QB, Talib would have intercepted that. There are only a few QBs on the planet that can do that, and I believe Manning is still one of them. The problem is that he cannot do it consistently anymore, and especially not in the kind of weather he saw at Gillette and that he'll see again in the playoffs.

While manning clearly doesn't like the cold it is the wind that is a killer for him. He flat out sucked going into the wind, and it was obvious he was hating the weather from warm-ups on. Belichick actually discussed this on Mondayand said Brady is not phased by weather and he handles it well mentally, and said that he has big hands and throws a tight spiral, which really helps when throwing into the wind. Although it went without saying Manning throws a wobbly weak ball and has tiny little baby hands, kind of like a tyrannosauraus.

Speaking as the OP, it isn't because they lost a close game on the road to a talented opponent... Denver fans should be crappin' bricks right now because of how atrocious their QB looked in cold, wintery weather. He's the best warm weather (or controlled environment) QB in NFL history. But January games in Denver, KC or Foxboro can easily be bad weather.

Denver's best case scenario is they will have to win 3 games outdoors in January/February in cold weather cities. Sure it could easily be 50 degrees and clear with no wind on all those days. But it could also be like it was in Foxboro - or worse.

Uh, he's not a Colt anymore. It can get pretty cold and windy in Denver.

Manning's performance this past Sunday was an awful lot like his performance against Baltimore in last year's playoffs. High scoring game that went deep into overtime, but the final score masks how poorly Manning played. In each game, the defense/special teams set up 2 touchdowns so the offense wasn't generating as many points as the final score indicates. Offense generated 21 points in 76 minutes against Balt, 17 points in 72 minutes against NE. In each game, Broncos had multiple possessions in OT with a chance to win but just couldn't get it done.

They will not beat KC and all Houston has to do is open the roof in their stadium..:D

Well if they beat KC, they have the one seed because I don't see anybody on the rest of their schedule that they could lose to.

Totally agree. I'm hoping how BB approached the Denver picks will help KC this time around and the KC receivers hold onto the ball. Alex Smith didn't have a bad game. Sadly the early weather report was for another really windy day in KC next weekend but that's not the forecast any longer. :(

Yeah you can point to the 80 yard drive, but other than that manning didn't look good all night..

Manning's struggles in cold weather isn't a small sample size...its something very real..I'm hoping kc can beat Denver this weekend because I can see kc losing another one and Denver having to play in foxborough in January
