Am I the only one leery of Stallworth?

I would love this signing. 1-year is fine. This guy had a great season for the Iggles when he was on the field. He is an impact WR that the Pats need. Who knows when CJ will be back if ever?

If ever? The kid isn't dead for christ's sake.

yes, blocking...very good thing to have. with all this talk about recievers, i havent heard much about their blocking abilities. i for one, think we need recievers who can block, and help the running game...everybody should be blocking better. just my thought for the morning:)

Especially now that we have a home run hitter at RB. Blocking by the WR is the difference between a 12 yd gain and a long TD run.

One thing I don't get is if you are a WR who is looking to sign a one year deal to prove yourself, why would you want to come to NE? This is the place to play a role and win a championship, not to showcase your talent.

Reading the tea leaves, my hunch is that we are going to get Stallworth. It's the only way I can explain the Moss rumors. I don't believe for a second that the Pats are seriously considering Moss. (Maybe it's just that I don't want to believe it.) I think this is all about floating a story to put a little pressure on Stallworth to make him believe he is not the only option. I think we're going to end up with him, or, at a minimum, that we want him as target no. 1 right now.

very good point. maybe it'll be a 5 yr deal that will cause 1,000 posts on this board as to why it shouldve been a 1 year deal:D
seriously, i agree. guys like reche came here because they wanted to win, and wanted to show their stuff(too bad for him the afccg was on t.v.). maybe,,,,,,hmmm,,,,,,just maybe b.b. knows something about stallworth that we dont:confused: it is possible. i hope its only a 1-2 yr deal(if we get him). i have strong concerns about his hamstring issues.

"NFL players can enter the substance-abuse program in a variety of ways, including voluntarily. Players also can be entered in the program for failing drug tests or for drug- and alcohol-related law violations away from the field, according to the collective-bargaining agreement."
"Stallworth was a well-liked player in the Eagles' locker room who made some major contributions, particularly in the two postseason games when he caught six passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. During the regular season, he caught 38 passes for 725 yards and five touchdowns. He also missed four games with a hamstring injury, but those were the first games he missed because of injury in the last three seasons."

"Meanwhile, there is speculation in league circles that the Eagles have been responsible for putting out the word that Stallworth is in the drug-testing program, in an effort to scare off other potential suitors."http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

First we really don't know the reason Donte's involved in this program to begin with and secondly the fact the Eagles do want him but at a lesser price leads me to believe it's likely they did put this info out while carefully avoiding violating confidentiality,in order to discourage suitors and drive his price down.

And he was well-liked in the locker room-good sign-very important to the Pats.
Until we know how he ended up in this program I'm not too concerned. The hamstring injury gave me a couple of willies though.

Good stuff PMB. I'm feeling better about this already, to be honest.:) Appreciate the feedback.

What did he smoked? maryjane? I don't see that as a character problem.

I'm told it was a Sudafed Cigarette.:) Seriously, most of my brothers and sisters of PatsFans.com have made me feel alot better about a 'prove your worth' short term deal.

Thanks for the therapy.:) I am now officially less leery!

According to PFT,Stallworth is in the Substance Abuse Program....but NOT at the stage where he would be suspended for his next transgression.

Meaning,I guess that he is under a "watch" status,
not on the brink of suspension.

Why the Patriots?.......What better place to prove to the rest of the League, you are a good citizen, then BB's School of Hard Knocks.

"Come here to work at playing football....or don't come at all"

The Patriots want guys who WILL behave well.

Bad behavior in the past is a red flag, not a deal-breaker.

Deion Branch was involved in shoplifting. Dillon had all kinds of trouble. But both wound up on the Pats, and were model citizens while there.
Who was the BC runner who came in in '03 and had to sit out the first 4 games before lighting it up vs Tennessee?

I wouldn't mind Stallworth, but the need is LBs. If we had one signed now then I wouldn't be concerned. But getting AD and losing TBC still leaves us with four starters and ZERO depth for a single injury...

Sgn the Lb first, unless they think they have the money for both...

hopefully, thats what were gonna do in the draft

you're probably referring to william green.
No its Michael Cloud. He scored 2 TDs against the Titans I think.

Willie Green has been a bust with the Browns.

your right,,,my bad. whatever happened to cloud??

I am only leery of Stallworth's hamstring. The substance abuse thing is going to be very carefully evaluated by BB & Co. and if they think it's fine, then I would guess it's not a huge deal. But no one can predict those darn hamstring injuries.

Leery, right here!

In fact, I have followed Donte's career since he was drafted by the Saints and hoped that one day he would be a Patriot. Every year I was disappointed in his production. I know that some have only seen what he did last year or the last two years. Some might not even know what he has actually done, but knows that he is a top free agent. This is my list of things to be worried about....

- In 5 years, he has yet to start all 16 games of a season. This is a testament to his health.

- Never had more than 70 receptions in a season.

- Shouldn't be paid as if he is a 1,000 yard receiver because he isn't.

- His agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Think about that and tell me that you believe a rumor that there is a one year contract with the Pats. Even if there was such a thing, he would be gone after that because the Pats aren't going to pay him anything close that Drew would want.

- News of drug concerns.

- I believe that he mentioned the Pats and Niners because of the amount of money they had to spend.

For those that want DS, be sure your willing to only have him on the field 3/4 of the time. He won't play ever game because he just can't stay healthy. You can blame the work ethic or maybe he has an attitude that he doesn't need to work hard in the off season. Don't think that he is going to give you 1000 a season, but more like 800 consistently and 5 TDs. I would pay him appropriately, but Drew doesn't believe in appropriate.

I would love to see this guy on the team. We would have some serious weapons.
