Is this why Ridley didn't start?

Both he and ryan claimed it wasnt a disciplinary action. One of the series is skewed with the brady int as well.

Do you think they would say if it was?

He averaged 4.2 yards a carry and busted out a 19 yard rush

Because the defense was tired out by our first half running attack? Is that your contention?

His season avg is 4.3.

Stupid if true. Almost as bad as benching Welker in a playoff game (but letting him field a punt before that series). You're penalizing the team/fans more than you're penalizing the player anything, I'm not saying the entire 2nd half turnaround was because of Ridley being in there but his impact is obvious.

This is the kind of rules and principles of BB that makes me proud of being a patriot fan and why their my favourite team.

Would you guys prefer that Ridley's reps come primarily is the 1st half or porimarily in the 2nd half. I don't think it is an option of Ridley to simply be the one primary back. We have decided on RB by committee.

It boggles my mind how we don't have Ridley play 90% of the snaps until the game is out of hand. I just don't understand what BB's problem is with him. The guy is our best RB by miles and he clearly scares the **** of out the other team's D. Yet we hold him back.

Today, we started playing better around the same time he started getting snaps. He completely changes our O and how the other team plays us. How can BB not see this?

Do you understand the concept of RBBC?

He should get all the reps until they rest him and the two backups can pick it up. Bolden as a passing back sub (though he's not good) Blount as a second half runner against tired defenses.

Ridley is the better back in all phases except receiving and I'm not sure he might not be better than Bolden there. When Vereen returns, the natural order will be two starters, two backups.

I am not sure of this. I imagine Boldin will be out and it will be Blount, Ridley, and Vereen sharing the duties.

I kind of agree with this. Once we build a lead, or tire out the D, mix in fresh backs. the guy's young and ids a better short yardage and breakaway back than either of the backups.

Nope... stupid concept when when you have a clear top 5-7 back in the league.

Drives me crazy. Until Gronkowski is 100% Ridley is the teams best offensive player this year. The fact he is not getting 75% of RB snaps is embarrassing.

"Possible" is always a good source for speculation.

OK, I would rather have Blount have more reps in the 1st half and Ridley more in the 2nd.

We simply have different positions on this.

Is it possible that Belichick saw a big decline in Ridley's performance last season after "x" number of carries and is simply managing his reps this year? My impression is that Belichick has some pretty firm ideas on how many touches modern NFL running backs can handle before they are worn down. It's a tough position, physically.

Even before today's game, Ridley wasn't starting all our games. I don't know why we use him the way we do. I felt he could have won us that playoff game in 2011 but BB chose to punish him and go BJGE

He'll be given the ball next week. Steelers defense allowing 121 yards per game (107 ypg without the Pryor run included) on the ground.

Does anyone have a different source for the video? I can't get it to play in Chrome OR Safari.

Sounds like baseless speculation, but it's a good question. Ridley is orders of magnitude better than Blount and Bolden

I like this theory better from Reiss:

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-...ine?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

During the game, it was difficult to comprehend why the team's best pure rusher, Stevan Ridley, was seemingly used so sparingly. One theory floated from this perspective on Twitter was that perhaps it was a result of some in-house discipline for his actions on a touchdown run last week (he high-stepped it in), but with the benefit of time in putting together the snap counts, the feeling here is that probably wasn't it. An educated guess is that Ridley's lack of snaps were combination of: 1) Brandon Bolden being viewed as the best pass-protecting back and that being prioritized in this week's plan based on the varied blitzes the Dolphins had shown on film; 2) A rotation with LeGarrette Blount in the "big back" role that limited overall opportunities for both because the Patriots didn't have a lot of plays. Had the Patriots sustained more drives, the substitution pattern between Blount and Ridley likely would have been seen more clearly. The substitution pattern showed up by looking closely at the team's longest drives -- on the 15-play, second-quarter march, Ridley took all the "big back" snaps while Bolden was on for the "passing back" snaps; and on the 13-play fourth-quarter drive, Blount took all the "big back" snaps but one, while Bolden took the "passing back" snaps

So Ridley and Blount are rotating on running downs whilst Bolden takes passing downs. By default, that limits Ridley's carries. Still, it means we'll get a relatively fresh RB for the playoffs.
