Losses never come down to just 1 play or penalty.

The blocked FG penalty was called correct anyway. The Pats had numerous opportunities to either stop the Jets or score more points. Plain and simple.

Observations and not excuses:

1. Brady kept looking at his throwing hand and rubbing it in the 4th quarter like there was something wrong with it.

2. Any word on the long snapper?

3. Did Gronk tweak his arm again? He seemed to favor it and was upset on the sideline yelling about something.

4. Ill be glad when Talib gets back to replace Arrington.

5, Hightower is too big to be in coverage.

The refs obviously have no idea how they're supposed to call this new rule. There's nothing fishy, it's just confusion and general incompetence at work. Shouldn't have come to that anyway though, the pats deserved the loss and the jets deserved the win
How come general incompetence always favors the Jets. I don't think its general, its selective.

Worry about the things you can control. this clearly isn't one of those moments.
If I take your recommendation, I might as well consider football the same as wrestling where the ref's are either blind or in on the who is supposed to win

He fumbled, the ball rolled forward and Solder (or maybe Vollmer) dove on it. Solder was short of the first down and it was initially spotted as 4th and 1. The officials conferred and moved it back to the spot of the fumble, setting up 4th and 6.

I know there are rules around a fumble lost forward and recovered on 4th down, but this was third down. Am I just unaware of the rules or is this a new interpretation of fumbles that go forward and are recovered by a teammate?

Not new at all. Decades old. The rule is that on 4th down and on ALL plays in the last two minutes of a half a fumble can only be advanced by the fumbler. If any other offensive player recovers the ball is spotted at the worse position of the spot of the recovery or of the fumble.

You can thank the Raiders for this rule. :)

We're not rolling over anybody with these personnel losses, so you have to be consistent and outplay the opponent. We couldn't keep the pressure on withe the lead and NYJ has a great line that made us one dimensional and they ran against our weakened line until it worked.

Give the Jets credit, they played strengths against weakness to turn the game around.

We've still got the better record, a winnable game and the bye upcoming and important people coming back.

stop...just stop :bricks:
You have your opinion and I have mine. Feel free to ignore me. It won't hurt my feelings. I have been following the Pats since Butch Songin was their QB. I know a screwing when I see one. I just hope they treat this Ref like Ben Dreith and he never ref's another Pats game. Of course given the relationship between Goodell and the Jets, he will get brownie points for his work.

Who's coming back on offense to save the day? Amendola and his stellar record of games played? Vereen? Some phantom offensive lineman who's not pat harlow impersonator? Brady can't complete a pass over 10 yards in the air with any consistency unless its right down the middle....

Grades

Pass offense: D
Run offense: B-

Run defense: D+
Pass defense: C+

Special Teams: A

Coaching: C

Special teams has very quietly turned into a real strength of this team. First time in years we've been able to say that....

First off, yes it was a poor and weird call but let not blame the refs here.

Second, Everyone's critism here is valid and you are allowed to feel how you want.Brady had a poor game, The OL played Poorly, Arrington had his worst game in a while. Dobson and Brady still need chemistry lessons. brady still is missing deep targets. He was eyeing down Gronk a lot today.

But the reality is this, last week we had a game winning drive with time winding down and won the game. This week we did the same thing but instead of a game winning TD, Gronk couldn't make the catch and we settled for a field goal. It's honestly that simple. Gronk catches that ball that basically hits him in the head and the pats win today.

It's a Game of inches and last week we made the great comeback play this week we didn't.

Last week we had the fans that blow which ever way the wind does tell us we are ready for SB glory. This week we suck and can't beat anyone and the jets may overtake us for the Playoffs. Oh yeah also brady is now apparently declining... he was getting pummeled in the pocket today.

Reality is ATM we are 5-2 lead the Div and have a bye week coming up. I still can't believe our run D did the job again this game and it came up again holding it the field goal attempt to a 56 yarder.

This team IMO is playoff bound. it's where we are as a team once we get there that is the question. I do agree with some posters here though.

Here's a highlight of our second half woes and i think some disconnect there especially with Wendel. Wendel gets the call out "4 down" you hear Brady yell "Four Down? No FIVE DOWN! Rita" that's basically Wendel just getting up there and calling the wrong protection.

Look we are a good not great team atm with a tonne of promise. I have the same opinion of this team i had 2 weeks ago. We just need to keep working keep working and get one home field playoff game. If we do that there is no telling what could happen if we hit our straps by the end of the year. But we aint there yet.

Re: Grades

Does anyone know if ESPN Boston is still doing the grades for each game? I can't seem to find it, and I always liked reading them.

Win next week and go in to the bye week 6-2 with a 3-1 div record i would say i would have taken that at the beginning of the year.

Lets us continue to work on timing and our general play for a run to the end of the season. If we get to 6-2 all we need is a 5-3 finish to the season and we are basically guaranteed playoffs. Once there anything can happen.

I know I only mentioned this a dozen times in the game thread, but where the heck was Collie. I really think his veteran, soft hands would have helped immensely. I know I don't know squat compared to the minds of football masters, but man I really was hoping he and Edes would have led a dink and dunk drive to score near the end there. McD is driving me to drink.... I'm on my 3rd glass of wine....after several beers....a jack and coke...what game? :stars2:

Tough to put him in game when Edelman, Dobson, Gronk, and one of the RBs are already on the field. That last spot is shared with KT, Hooman, Collie, and Develin.

Short answer: it doesn't. Yes, they've been lucky to be handed two wins on questions last-play calls. But they're also the most penalized team in the NFL. They've been lucky so far this year, but that didn't make this some grand conspiracy. It's just a couple of lucky calls that happened to go their way.

if you honestly believe that the refs are fixing games under orders from the league, then why do you keep watching?

Can someone explain to me why oh why the patriots give up on the possibility of getting a TD on KR with Blount back there?

Every year BB signs that one veteran FA that gives absolutely nothing to the team. Have Leon Washington give a wave so we can see what he looks like. Hi Leon.
As for Blount....he does get the Pats to the 22 more often than not......which is exciting in itself.
PS....Manning just wobbled a deep ball to Decker.....on the run. And a mid range strike for the TD.........That is how you do it

take it whatever way you see fit. There is nothing we can do about the calls officials make. its happens. some week you get the rub of the green. others not so much

I'm not a frequent poster but I've got a few thoughts...

The Oline played terrible...

Brady had a very poor game, but it is always blamed on his young receivers...

The call at the end of the game is the first time in my life I have ever seen it called...it truly makes someone wonder about the integrity of the game...

And last but not least...the combo of Spikes and Hightower without Mayo to cover up how bad they are, verges on in competence by the coaching staff. They are terrible. I'm a 45 year old former Army Ranger with back, hip, knee, and ankle problems, and truly don't think either of them could cover or catch ME in the open field. Collins and Fletcher would have been playing every down over these two turds.
