Favre, Manning, Warner...Brady decline because he's 36?? Seriously doubt it..

Is it just me or does it look like a very slow stunt by Chris Jones in that gif?

That's because it has only been a rule for seven weeks. Not sure whether the problem there was the player or the special teams coaches -- but you have to know the rules. Every single one of them.

Every ref is trained on the brand new rules, and if you commit one right under his nose, I assume he's going to call it. I imagine a ref could conceivably take a pass on calling that one where it's not blatent, but if you're ever going to call it, where the guy does it right in front of you and it's a very long try where it theoretically could make a difference on a low kick, I suppose that's the play.

Worse than this.....it has been reported by Reiss via twitter that the weekly referee training video highlighted the rule and showed several clips of missed calls they the first 6 weeks. So every ref was acutely aware of it this week. Belichick usually keeps track of these things - we know he tracks penalty stats for each crew so he knows how to coach his players to gameplan - but his staff whiffed on this. The other thing is on a 50+ Yarder, the kicker has to alter the arc of the ball and kick it lower over the LOS. So it is the time to put in your high jumpers Not drive into the line to get an up close block .

Whether it decline or not, Brady is not playing well. It was easy to blame the new receiving cast earlier this year, but it's clear that Brady is also not playing up to his standard. He's missed far too many guys down field when they are open.

Brady isn't being Brady because of the oline. 20 sacks in 7 games versuses 27 in 16. It's clearly the oline costing the offense.

I don't have any stats to back this up, but I'd lay money Brady's been holding the ball longer because his guys aren't getting open.

In addition, it seems like the offensive philosophy has changed due to the personnel. More running, more play action, more downfield shots.

Definitely A factor. Can't say if it's THE factor without counting how many of those are "jailbreak" sacks and how many are coverage sacks.

I find it hard to believe that this was the only time in this game it happened. I seem to recall a Superbowl in which a Referee was watching an offensive lineman with a choke hold on Seymour and swallowed his whistle. Given that there are callable penalties on almost every play which are not called. Why should a penalty be called when it had no bearing on the snap or accuracy of the kick. Either the ref lacked judgement or was biased. Does anybody think that the penalty would have been called on the Jets to cost them the game.

Didn't see the game, BUT, statistically, it looks like the Pats got blown out. 46 minutes to 23 minutes time of possession, Brady under 50% passing. Jets get 177 yards rushing. Too many injuries for us to compete.

didnt see the game but 6 pts in the 2nd half. Same as last week until the last minute miracle. Be thankful we pulled out one of the games.

As BB says statistics are for losers, unless the Ref's hand you the game

I don't think Brady is declining. I think most of the defensive coaches are just figuring him out. The deep pass has always been one of his weaknesses, since I've been watching him. Except for when he has a really tall athletic guy like Moss, who can jump up and catch jump passes or track the ball really well. Sure Brady could probably complete a bomb to any of his WRs if they are wide open and he has plenty of time in the pocket ,but if that's not happening, Brady isn't gonna be that much of a factor in the deep game. The problem with the Pats offense is that it's predictable, limited and most of the time and not in sync some times.

a.) I think McDaniels needs to get more creative on offense and stop relying so much on Brady's arm. He's throwing almost 40-50 times a game and barely completing half of them. I think a more conservative game plan (like the old days) will help. Until the offense get out of their funk.

b.)I think Belichick and crew needs to draft or pay for a deep threat or at least a tall, athletic and dependable WR, instead of missing opportunities because of the price tag.

c.)Brady needs to target other receivers not named Gronk next week.

The last thing we need McDaniels to do is get more creative.

If pushing a teammate through/into the pile is a 15 yard personal foul, why hasn't it been called on at least 50% of run plays

Because it only applies to FG and PAT attempts (and maybe punts -- can't remember that one.)

Jets have a somewhat easy schedule down the stretch..they may be more in play then dolphins

A shout out to all the apologists for the ref's populating the board.
On ESPNboston.com, someone has posted a picture of the Jets attempting to block the tying field goal by Ghost. Guess what the Jets committed the same illegal push only more obvious. Where was the flag then? Try telling me that there isn't something fishy. I am sure that BB will point that out and there will some BS explanation from the league.

Missing guys open downfield has plagued Brady since early in his career although it has been worse since the knee injury. His game has always been the precision short passing game, the seam route, and, to a lesser extent, the deep out. All of these throws require the ability to drive the ball, but none require great touch. Maybe his baseball background helps him with these throws but he doesn't compare with Manning, Brees, or Rodgers when it comes to throws that require air under the ball, such as the fade.

The refs obviously have no idea how they're supposed to call this new rule. There's nothing fishy, it's just confusion and general incompetence at work. Shouldn't have come to that anyway though, the pats deserved the loss and the jets deserved the win

Worry about the things you can control. this clearly isn't one of those moments.
