What is the word on Mayo?

Re: Mayo done for the year

Hightower-Spikes-Collins

So Collins goes from a developmental role with a few snaps a game to a starter?

Learn fast kid.

Re: Jarod Mayo could miss rest of the season after undergoing surgery

I'm wondering how Les Carpenter out-scooped the usual guys on this one. Especially now that Belichick put the gag order on injury talk.

Just saw the @lescarpenter tweet about the loss of Jerod Mayo. No Wilfork. No Mayo. If Talib is lost, Brady will have to put up 35 a game.

Re: Mayo done for the year

Peter King, La Canfora, and Breer are all commenting on it as if it were true. I'll go ahead and assume it is.

Re: Mayo done for the year

The Patriots are going to absolutely suck against the run now.

and mayo makes the defensive calls as well....

Re: Mayo done for the year

It just wasn't meant to be this year.

If you're givin up on this team now, get out.

Not true at all. In fact, quite the opposite.

This team has quality depth at the LB position. While Mayo's absence will be felt, I'm confident this is still a great defense. Fletcher is a decent coverage LB and will most likely see his playing time increased.

Re: Mayo done for the year

Dear antler something or other. Good enough for the ravens.

Per source, Pats LB Jerod Mayo had surgery to repair torn pectoral muscle. This confirms Yahoo report. Prospects for return aren't good

In training camp, Hightower was also getting reps at that, so I imagine he'll be making them from here on out.

I hate to say it, but Wilfork wasn't much of a loss. At least nearly not as much as the media is trying to make his loss out to be. Nearly three great performances by the defense without him (he was injured on the first drive three games ago).

Losing Mayo and/or Talib on the other hand would be a significant blow. Mayo started the season so-so for him, but he was great the last few games. He was really turning the corner in coverage. This is a big loss.

Time for Collins to put on his big boy pants and start to grow as a player pretty quickly.

Re: Mayo done for the year

Show me a team that is down both starting DTs, starting LB and team captain, 2nd string/receiving RB, the best TE in the league and then potentially one of the best CBs in the league and the starting RG.

Talk about being decimated by injuries!

those exact positions? just the pats.

Apparently we need to have our S&C coaches do more work on the starters and less work on the backups right?

Re: Mayo done for the year

show me one team that doesn't have injuries.

Show me one team that has lost their top 2 defensive players for the year, and their top receiver for 80% of the year, and the best TE in football all year so far. Also the teams 3 rd best defensive player is about to miss some games too with a Hip Flexor. All teams have injuries, but none as drastic as the Pats, yet the Pats are 5-1. There is no way the Pats can avoid these injuries from not taking their toll, it's just impossible. Sooner or later, we are gonna start losing games because of these injuries. I am shocked the Pats are 5-1, and quite frankly, damned proud of the Pats.

torn pec recovery, grade III which requires surgery, are usually 4-6 months recovery. Mayo may be back for the super bowl, if the pats make it that far.

Mayo's one of the best conditioned athletes in the NFL, this isn't on the conditioning department, this is a contact sport, injuries happen regardless.

Losing Mayo for year...Talib for a few weeks...O is going to have to bail them out for the next few weeks. We don't even know when Kelly will be back

If any injury dooms the season it's wilfork's, so if you dont believe it did then I don't see any reason to panic now. LB is the one position we actually have great depth at. I'm not afraid of a Hightower-Spikes-Fletcher/Collins rotation.

I didn't love Mayo on 3rd downs(passing) anyway. Collins/Fletcher are more suited for that role in time IMO.

I read on Twitter, he wouldn't be able to practice for six weeks and could be back in 8 weeks. I wonder if they carry him for the playoffs.

Brady is gonna have to make the rookies grow up even faster. We could win like this, but without mayo, the offense has to put more points up.
