Those early indications are a relief but we'll know much more on Wednesday when Talib speaks to reporters. Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald was in the locker room today and briefly saw Talib:

Talib walking around OK in the locker room, which is good news. Bad news is they don't play games in locker rooms. Said he'd talk Wednesday.

If he can talk to the media on Wed., then maybe it isn't serious. Usually the Pats shut down injured players and don't let them speak to the media.

When I had a hip flexor injury, I could play but in pain and with reduced speed/mobility. It took weeks but definitely wouldn't keep Talib out for the season. Sounds like good news, hopefully he will come back in top shape for the playoff run at the very least.

I would let him sit for the Jets game. A week off would do that injury some good.

I don't want to see him until after the bye. He's too important. And he came back too soon for last year's playoffs with the same injury.

I wonder if this is related to the hip injury he incurred last year when playing Houston and he took that fall while stretching out for a ball . . .

Exactly.

Especially for the Jets.

The thing about hip flexor injuries is they are similar to hamstring injuries in that they tend to linger. All can look good and then you tweak it again. There's also different levels to this type of strain so we'll have to wait and see.

The Jets and Steelers don't really have that one player who you want to lock down, and against Miami I'm not sure you would use Talib one on one against a speedster like Wallace anyway. I'd rather have him than not have him, but the timing of the injury was as good as you can hope for, given our schedule leading up to the bye.

I wouldn't take the Dolphins at home, lightly.

I wonder if this is the type of thing the team was worried about when it leaked reports of being dissatisfied with Talib's lack of commitment to the off-season program.

More wussy fandom. You can't have your best players not playing just to keep them healthy. If it keeps him out til the bye so be it but if he is ready before he is playing.

It's still morning. Hitting the sauce already?

Do you honestly know little about Talib and his three straight years of hip flexor problems that linger and don't go away? Maybe you liked watching Marquise Cole defend Anquan Boldin last year?

FACT: Talib returned too early from a hip flexor last year and strained it. it would be stupid beyond belief to lose Talib because you rushed him out against teams with losing records in the first half of the season.

Dennard's been playing well enough where you could still employ the same defensive tactic and have him follow around the team's opposing best WR. At 5'9ish he won't be following around TEs like Talib though.

We would like him against Miami.

Sorry but I am real sick and tired of the wussy attitude infesting this board the idea that a player is too important so we need to be extra cautious is backwards to me. All players need to be cautious with their injuries player 1 the same as 53 as it is their careers on the line but the better the player the more important is to get him back ASAP and really there is little value in having a player rest longer than their injury requires.

Here is your quote with no context of how long it takes the injury to heal. "I don't want to see him until after the bye. He's too important. And he came back too soon for last year's playoffs with the same injury." If it takes one week to heal what would be the point in him sitting out until after the bye. If it takes until after the bye for him to heal enough than fine but if he has healed enough I see no need for an arbitrary line set after the bye week.

Lets see Vince is out for the year, Kelly is out possibly back soon but should we wait until after the bye for him too he is too important with Vince out right?

Mayo appears to be out at least a few weeks and Hightower was on the injury report last week. Where are we if wait on both until after the bye?

Now we get to Talib, Arrington was on the injury report last week and I believe Dennard has at points too but you propose shutting down Talib until after the bye not because the injury takes that long to heal but because "He's too important" but Dennard and Arrington have to fill in despite working through or having worked through their own injuries.

Yup and I am the one on the sauce. If he isnt ready until after the bye then you shouldnt rush him back but once he is ready he should play.

I am dumbfounded by your questions. Have you ever had a quad or hamstring pull? They get better over time.

I shouldn't have to explain this. If you rush a guy back after he's pulled something, you risk doing greater damage. Particularly with muscle injuries in the legs and his. With some of these injuries, they get worse if you don't allow them to heal.

You did not say that originally all you originally said was he is too important and I dont want to see him until after the bye week and that he came back too soon last year. If his strain or pull is not ready until after the bye week then fine if it is ready before then he should be playing just because muscle pulls can be nagging doesnt mean we need to start setting arbitrary dates that have nothing to with any real diagnosis. For all we know this injury will keep Talib out until well after the bye but if it is just a minor tweak then there is no reason to wait until the bye and really your attitude is very chicken little and I am tired of it, there is way to much of it going around already.

Depending on the region, Grade I strains (the minor variety) can take anywhere between 14-21 days to fully heal. I'd prefer players are given the time they need to make a full recovery before putting them on the field.

I think you're arguing for the hell of it. Talib could go out there next week... and pull it even more.

It doesn't need to be said that muscles heal with time, does it? Is that required now?
