I don’t think anyone could argue that Thompkins has had some struggles with his hands over the first six weeks of the season, however having watched some film of his college play this was never an issue at Cincinnati and for that matter it was not even a major issue during the preseason for those reasons it is my opinion that much of his drops were associated with nerves and confidence. Yesterday Thompkins made the type of catch that can turn a player into a king, the type of catch that will propel his confidence to new heights and give him some of the swagger that he had in training camp and preseason back.

It is my belief that that reception will be the one that we look back as the one that started it all, this kid has overcome so much and I know without knowing him personally that before that reception there was a level of doubt in his mind create from his prior mistakes in life, that doubt got punched in the face when he caught that ball.

But I watched the game and they gave him exactly 6.

Let us hope so. actually my favourite catch of his was one he took on a quick slant. Real wham-bam play that he caught away from his body and on which any double-clutch would have spelled disaster.

I don't think he suffers from nerves to much, just my opinion, he seems like a calm, humble confident guy. There's so many things going threw a rookies head on any given play it makes concentration a little tough I'm sure, technical issues, the language of a new offense, reading complex nfl defenses etc. etc..

Truly hope he keeps making improvements, love his attitude. I said it before he has a troy brown/kevin faulk team first, I'll do anything and everything for my guys to help attitude. Super hard worker and a great person. Guys like this generally stick around for a while, whether he's the #1,2,3 or just deep depth. That's how I see him anyways.

Keep it up KT!!!

Maybe, but I was happy enough with just the six. :)

Yep, it was worth 7.70 points.

For me. :D

I agree; making such a pressure filled catch will slow things down for him. All other passes should seem much easier after that.

Brady looking his way when he's open and not over throwing him should also help thompkins

I need to get his jersey. His story — where he came from, the trouble he went through, the arrests, and how he's now turning his life around — was enough for me to have his back. This winning TD catch just tells me I need to hurry up and get one.

That's what imaginative conjecture tells you. Otherwise, decent post. Now, go back and delete that abominable Amendola thread and we'll be A-OK. ;)

Same with Dobson. Rookies forced into a major role, having to think about options are nervous. Very few aren't.

Kenbrell Thompkins' four receiving touchdowns are already the most by any wideout who has ever played with Tom Brady. Yeah, he's played six games.
The undrafted Thompkins is on pace to establish new marks for receptions (56) and yards (848), too.
Here's how Thompkins and Aaron Dobson currently stack up among rookie wide receivers in the Tom Brady era.
Receptions:
1. Deion Branch: 43
2. Julian Edelman: 37
3. Kenbrell Thompkins: 21
4. Aaron Dobson: 19
5. Bethel Johnson: 16
Receiving yards:
1. Branch: 489
2. Edelman: 359
3. Thompkins: 318
4. Dobson: 230
5. Johnson: 209
Receiving touchdowns:
1. Thompkins: 4
2. Chad Jackson: 3
T3: Branch: 2
T3: Johnson: 2
T5: Dobson: 1
T5: Edelman: 1
T5: David Givens: 1

Note: When including all positions, Aaron Hernandez holds the rookie record in the Brady era with 45 catches and 563 yards, and Rob Gronkowski has the record with 10 touchdowns. Thompkins is on pace to surpass the receptions and yards, and match the touchdowns.

The problem with us fans is that we expect rookies to come in, replace veterans and perform like seasoned professionals. Often, we forget the exact same troubles these seasoned veterans had as rookies.

Dobson and Thompkins have shown they have ability. The next step in their development is to provide consistent production and cut down on the mental errors, because that's what the drops are.

I need to get his jersey. His story — where he came from, the trouble he went through, the arrests, and how he's now turning his life around — was enough for me to have his back. This winning TD catch just tells me I need to hurry up and get one.

yeah, kinda like Hernand....... uh, never-mind

Definitely he went from good rookie receiver to game-winner. That is a HUGE leap and bodes very well for the future.

I for one hope that the Patriots continue to include and recruit kids just like him.

Hernandez was the anomaly.. a social anomaly... a human anomaly. Don't let this guy ruin it for other players.

Taking a chance on, and giving a second chance to, kids like Thompkins makes us a better team -not to mention better human beings.

While I hope the NFL never has to see the like of another Hernandez -I will take the bad with the good if it means giving kids like Thompkins a real second chance.

Belichick.. just keep on doing what you are doing.

... though if you would please offer the Broncos a 4th or a 3rd for Wes and then have a fatherly heart-to-heart with him after you personally pick him up at the airport -me, Brady and everyone else in Patriot's nation would love you for it.

No judgements man. Just go get it done.

Thanks I think!

As far as the Amendola posts goes, if you remove the fact that with 2 minutes remaining in Q3 of the game yesterday Amendola suffered a head injury from the discussion and just look at what has been contributed over the first 6 weeks by Amendola you would have a really hard time arguing my OP. If you took the time to look at my posting history you’d see I do not troll around like a negative Nancy pointing out only the bad, I go both ways. I am happy about the 5-1 record, extremely happy, I am proud of all the things this team has done as a whole, probably prouder of this team so far than any other Patriots team I have followed in recent memory, but I am disappointed in Danny Amendola and not because he suffered a head injury, I am disappointed because he was injured in week 2 of the preseason which led to his missing the final 2 preseason games, then he returned for week 1 and although he played well he once again was injured, he then missed weeks 2, 3 and 4 due to injury, when he returned in week 5 he was still less than 100% did not play well and had several drops, prior to leaving yesterday’s game with the head injury he once again looked to be playing at much less than 100% he had 2 catches for 0 yards and dropped at least 1 very catchable ball.

As much as I would prefer to pretend these things did not exist and sit here and smile because we’re 5-1 that approach is a failure waiting to happen in my opinion, I will commend the players that deserve it just like I did here with Thompkins, but I am also going to say something is a player is underperforming. The 5-1 record does not excuse Amendola from accountability, he signed a contract to play and play well, he has not done that, I don’t know why my holding him accountable for that is such an issue for you and so many others. I am sure Belichick will be pointing out the issues, underperformances and failures of the team all week does that make him not a fan of his own team?

TIP: Go buy an Ochocinco Patriots jersey which are on sale/super cheap from the NFLShop. Then just get the name replaced with Thompkins.
