Great signing on Thomas. Easily the best player on the free agent market, and it seems like you got a pretty good deal too. $7.5M a year when above average guards like Steinbach and Dockery are getting $7M a year.

Is a scary signing from a Colts' fans perspective. Add a LB like Willis or Siler in the draft and your LB position goes from a question to possibly the best in the league. Add that to your DL and it's a great defense.

Draft a WR with your other first round pick (in a great WR draft) and the Pats (unfortunately) look like the team to beat in the NFL next year.

Just wanted to give you guys an opinion from a rival fan looking at this rationally. This is a great fit for you guys.

There is something to be said about the beauty of assembling an extraordinary defense and football team, is there not? Something that rises above team loyalty that can just be appreciated as a football fan.

Caldwells dropsies in that playoff game vs. your Colts were tough to watch. We coached him up, but in that game he revealed himself as an overachieving #3....we have to do better than that!

You have so many weapons on offense its absolutely sick. That Marvin Harrison one hand grab in the end zone at Gilette was a classic.

I notice a change in Peyton: he seems more mature, and very focused on his legacy. Hes a different guy, and no longer a choker. Seriously, the league is going to have its hands full preventing Manning and the Colts from repeating next year.

True, don't know if I love it, but I can respect the hell of it. Already a great young DL and unfortunately an ILB in the draft to eventually replace Bruschi makes it a great linebacking core too. I enjoy the chess-matches, should be great btw Colts' O and Pats' D.

Yeah, it should be interesting to see what happens with Caldwell. Did he have any similar problems in other games last year? I saw 4-5 Pat games, and don't remember it otherwise.

Look, I love what C did for us this year. But, he was a #3 elevated into a #1 role. Most true Pats fans I know see this, understand this, and appreciated what the guy did for us this year. He basically overachieved all year.

Next year, hes a HIGH 2, more likely a #3 at best. Reche gets a pass, cuz he came in, overachieved, and resorted to form when the time came. Much as we did not like it, that what you should expect. WR must be addressed.

Thanks but no thanks you boys are the Champs and now you will feel what it means to be the Champs. Nice try trying to unload the pressure and flying under the radar. :)Every other team will give you their A game week afer week. Repeating is the trick as only @6-7 other teams have ever done it. The 9ers, Boys, Steelers and Pats are the ones most talked about being dynasties. Repeating puts you in an entire other class.

Coltsfan and Ryan = the opposite of trolls.

"llort"s?

I am very pysched right now!! Can't wait to see Thomas in Beijing!

No prob. I am an NFL fan so I love watching guys like Thomas play and have great respect for his abilities. He is a great player. It also sets up the rest of your offseason perfect as I outlined.

Also allows you guys to move Vrabel back inside. Alexander I thought was terrible against the Colts, and BB may have actually made a mistake in benching Cain and getting Vrabel out of the middle of the field.

Don't sleep on Brandon Siler in the draft. I live in SEC country so I've seen him play a lot. He's got great instincts. Also keep in mind the relationship between Belichick and Urban Meyer.

Do you guys agree with me that this makes the Pats the very early favorite at this point looking at next year?
To use Boxing terminology, you have to knock out the champion. I like what we've done today, but... we have a ways to go. Nice, classy post. I hope to see you in January.

Thanks, coltsfan. Good to have an objective take on this. and congrats on beating us in the AFCCG and winning the Super Bowl. If not for Bill Polian, a lot of us would have been even happier for you, Dungy, Peyton, etc...

I totally agree with you....coltsfan.....Thanks for your input....

This has been alluded to by some other posters, and I don't want to hijack this thread, but I'd like to point out that though the Colts won the SB, they didn't win it until they recognized that the "Patriots Way" was the best way. It doesn't matter how many style points you put up, or how many records you set, all that matters is being ahead when the clock runs out. The Colts will be more dangerous now that they realize that.

Since part of the "Patriot's Way" includes playing strong defense, do you suppose Bill Polian will now quietly suggest to the refs that they "let the players play" and draft more hard-nosed players like Bob Sanders? Now this thread has been hopelessly hijacked...sorry. ;)

Congrats on the signing as well. You guys just got a lot better. I cannot wait to watch the Colts and the Pats battle it out next year. Regular season or the playoffs, man it will be fun. You guys need to try and make the trip. Indy is a great town! Maybe if you show up, I'll let you play with my sheep! :D

Uhhh, thanks for the offer, but...ahhh...I don't think we have any intention of going down that road!

Since there is a good Colts' fan here. What exactly is the deal with Simon? What happens to him?

Just got back from Australia and I have had absolutely no news other than Dillon was going to be released. Is this almost certain? It would blow if we somehow didnt get him.

I will be so excited to see Thomas on the Pats. The Pats will pay up if there is a player worth getting.

I'm already excited about next year. Now I only hope that Stallworth becomes a free agent and wants to come back for a sort of second interview with the Pats. If that happens, I would cream my pants.

I don't think anyone is a "early favorite" going into next year or any year for that matter. That happened last year with the dolphins right? How did that tag work out for them? Clean slate........everybody starts out even....GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!

Have no idea. Really a strange situation. Everything is so tight-lipped.

It would be great if he comes back and returns as the Corey Simon of Philadelphia. Not sure that is realistic though.

coltsfan, I'll be keeping my eye on you. You seem like a classy, rational poster, which is rarity!

Bah!
It's just Ryan under a different screen name!:p :bricks:

One thing the Colts fans better hear from today WE ARE COMING AFTER YOU HARD!!! wE ARE RETOOLING LIKE 03 AND WHEN WE ARE DONE THE HARDWARE WILL BE BACK AT GILLETTE. THE BALANCE IS GOING BACK IN OUR FAVOR JUST AND ALL IN THE UNIVERSE WILL BE RIGHT AGAIN.
