Dez Bryant vs Devin McCourty

There is a reason we've given up a total of one bomb in four games, that's Devin. The one bomb we did let up was just a great play by Julio against Devin.

Allow me to add three more reasons: E.J. Manuel, Geno Smith, and Josh Freeman.

Does not compute. Crappy defenses of yore would've allowed all three to march up and down the field at will.

Can somebody explain the Dez Bryant hype to me

Yet in the last 3 years they each would have had numerous bombs on our defense and for several hundred yards and tds. You apparently never watched the pats the last few years then.

Allow me to point out facts.
The 4 QBs we have faced have completed 4 passes thrown over 30 yards downfiled.
P Manning, Brees, Stafford and Roethlisberger (the other 4 in the top 5 in passing yards beyond Ryan) have completed...........4.

That's an amazing stat at the quarter mark in the season. Not so much for Roethlisberger who spends most Sundays chucking and ducking, but for the other four guys not to have several downfield strikes with the receivers they've got is encouraging as they (Brees and Manning) show up on the schedule in the weeks ahead.

Its Manning 2, Rberger 2, Brees 0, Stafford 0 by the way.

Just that he's a big, physical receiver who is often able to go up in close coverage and double teams and make nice catches. The comparison is often brought up due to the fact that N.England passed on him 2-3 times in the draft and chose McCourty instead.

I feel that Belichick made the correct decision and have stated so since day one, but I understand the questioning to a certain degree--or at least can appreciate it somewhat. I am just explaining to you why Dez Bryant is spoken of a lot, and why the comparison to McCourty is often brought up.

Many see good NFL WR's and think of what could have been with a QB like Brady, especially since we've been lacking that big play threat in our offense for awhile at the WR position. Hopefully we can develop some of these rookies and get them to continue to climb towards their potential in the future on cheap, rookie pacts--which is obviously the best option to take due to the expensiveness of top tier WRs (along with the gamble that they may or may not be able to pick up and produce in our system).

The problem with some of these assessments is that they tend to discredit the importance of good secondary play too, which in my opinion may even be more important than that of WR.

Just another glaring example of what a poor GM that Bellicheck is and has been. The guy is a great coach, but by far one of the worst GM's in this league.

If he didn't have Brady at QB, he would have been gone a long time ago.

Yep ok buddy. Remember Belichick is the one that drafted Brady when he had 4 QBs on the roster and Kraft had just given Bledsoe that "Patriot for life" contract.

Are any McCourty haters gonna dispute that play he made when they needed it? Or are you gonna come up with an excuse?

McCourty is a captain and the lynchpin of the secondary. The moment he moved to safety, the defense immediately got better. Just about the only safety I'd want over him is Earl Thomas, and even that is no sure thing as McCourty is a better run-defender. Seriously, name me 3 safeties better than DMC?

Bryant is a physical beast but has too much baggage and was too risky of a pick at the time.

please remember that for the first two years, jerry jones had to babysit Dez while he "matured". If you think that for one second, BB or TB would of put up with that, you are smoking some good stuff. He might of lasted the first season but he would of been gone before the start of his second season.

Are YOU the one "smoking some good stuff"?

Bellichick is WELL known to bring in players with some troublesome baggage, thinking he can change them.

How many has he used first round picks on? Yes, Belichick will take risks on guys, but they're very low risk for the most part.

Dez Bryant another 2 touchdowns today, including a highlight reel TD. While our Offense continues to seriously struggle at the WR position. I love McCourty, but Dez is the better playmaker.

I'm not sure why this thread needs to keep getting brought up.

Even if we have Dez, if Brady doesn't trust Dez he's not gonna be effective.

I saw Dobson and Thomkins get separation today, yet Brady never looked their way.

Agree

Bryant has more talent than McCourty.. No question about it.. And I feel BB and his staff is better than then one they have in Dallas.. BB is known to put players in position to succeed and can only imagine what Bryant would have looked like in a Pats uni..

while Devin is steady, Dez is a game changer every time he steps on the field..

Anyone watching Dez put on a show today?
