1. When Dobson went down, I hoped that would lead BB to sign someone like Collie. True, he's a hard hit away from being knocked out again, but he strikes me as the kind of smart and reasonably fast WR who will thrive with Our Tom.

2. Savor Our Tom every single day. We're never going to see another like him. I live out of market and the begrudging respect opposing fans have for him is ginormous...even those who HATE the Pats.

3. This Ridley injury is confounding. When did that occur? Hopefully,Bolden is good to go. Imagine if they cut Bolden in training camp now? Depth at RB....key.

4. I'm still surprised they didn't add a DT in Vince's absence. OK, forget ****ie Seymour or some other shiny new/old toy. How about another body for the rotation? Or is that going to be Fortson?

5. Denver is peaking too soon. Every year a team looks unbeatable early and then fades. (Bangs head into wall thinking about 2007)

6. BB loves this kind of challenge. Remember the stories about him saying in 2001 "that we won a SB with THIS team?!"

7. I know Spikes has limitations. But I hope he gets used more. Guy is a hard hitter.

8. Leon Washington must look much less explosive than they anticipated. They brought the guy in for a reason and not just to be inactive every week. Seems a little odd.

9. No one is talking much about McCourty. He looks pretty solid out there. Steve Gregory too. Neither has been seen all that much this season in chase mode.

10. I don't listen to Pats games on the radio so can't comment on the lack of Gil and Gino. But I can tell you one thing: I miss hearing Gil's calls on the NFL Films shows and other highlight shows. Loved the Gil.

11. I would be very surprised if an Andy Dalton/Marvin Lewis team beat the Pats. Lesser QB/HC pairs have done so but that tandem doesn't strike me as formidbable enough.

12. I just love the Pats. Can't get enough of them, d%#*!@t. No content there, I know, but it's true.

13. Among the many football related things that suck about Hernandez is that he was damn fun to watch. I miss those spin moves. And his YAC.

14. Who doesn't love the Edelman story line? College QB. Making the most of his shot. Playing really well. Highest punt return average in NFL history!

15. Why do we see a botched call in EVERY Pats game? In week one Thompkins got man handled early and no PI was called. Last week Talib was called for PI when both guys were hand checking. The spot was botched on the Blount run. There are other calls that were violently bad. Ugh.

16. Have you looked at the 4 PM games this week? Only two and the only one that I might want to watch is Denver-Dallas, and if that gets out of hand, I have to turn it off. Come on NFL, I need the whole day covered!

17. What do we hav in Boyce? Hard to say, right? That was a nice shoe string catch and run after the catch. But he's been pretty invisible and thoroughly beatend out by a college free agent.

18. Dare to dream? Amendola and Gronk this week? Embarassment of riches, if so. In week 9-10 could we really have them and Vereen? From an offensively challenged team that looked downright awful againt the Jets in Week 2, we'll have an offense with a bunch of weapns, especially if the rookie WRs continue to develop and Edelman' confidence and effectiveness continues to grow.

19. Yo, naysayers who carped about Bill signing "problem" players after Hernandez killed someone, take a look at Dennard, Thompkins, Talib and Blount. And shut the hell up. It's not what Collinsworth was saying -- "Bill makes them all PATRIOTS" -- but it is good to take some chances and get bargains in the process. KEEP DOING THAT. Doing that does not mean you've lost your way. Shakes head.

20. Did I mention that I just love this team? Well it extends in all directions. Players. Coaches. Owners. Hell, even fans. We are so lucky. Pats have been a bona fide contender since 2001! That's really all you can ask for.

21. I mentioned in another thread that I hoped to see some big plays out of Mayo. Many pointed out that he makes them and really, that's not his function. Good stuff. I think he can make more and his function is multi-headed, but I heard what you all were saying. Some smaht people here!

Thanks for reading, if you got this far.

Reponses welcome.

Some great thoughts, really enjoyed reading them.

Your comments about Tom Brady, so true. I live in NY, and not one Jets or Giants fan has ever come up to me and said, "Tom Brady sucks !". In fact, quite the opposite. I'm not a smack talker, so I get respect from my fellow football fans in NY. There have been times where I've voiced my concerns about an upcoming Patriot's game, and to the word, I almost hear the same thing from every man woman or child. "But you have Tom Brady". He may be hated by some fans, but nobody doubts his greatness, he get's tons of respect.

About Leon Washington, I just wish they'd cut him. We brought in Reggie Dunn from Utah on a tryout, and we didn't sign him. He's the best Kickoff Return man in college football history (only man to return 4 for td's in the same season). Why not give him a shot ? Can't be any worse than the guy not dressing.

I'm also in NY and you are dead on right about the Brady reaction. That's exactly what it is.

Interesting about Dunn. Seems like a cheaper and higher upside option.

Duly noted....

As a side note: why do you have Diane Swonk in your avatar? :)

1) I'll be surprised if he is here in two months.

3) Ridley has a thigh bruise, nothing serious. Bolden is actually hurt worse right now.

4) I suspect we'll see a call up from the PS on Saturday, possibly even with Collie being released.

8) Leon is hurt. He'll make his mark by season's end.

13) He was exciting, but he was also good for one boneheaded YAC attempt every game. Spinning back inside was a major part in NE losing the AFCCG last year.

19) Absolutely. Far too much is made out of the Hernandez issue. There are at least a half dozen guys with equal red flags entering the league every year.

21) I don't think Mayo's function is to not make big plays. I'll agree that he makes more than it appears watching the games, but the "he is a tackle machine and not being asked to make big plays" line of rhetoric is pure nonsense.

Forgive me if I missed it elsewhere but this seems worthy of note as well:

In 4 games, Solder hasn't allowed a sack or QB hit, and Pats have rushed more times (39) for more yards (165) off the LT than any O-lineman.

That's Talib level greatness which frankly warrants more attention. Sebastian Vollmer also has yet to give up a sack or hit.

Thanks for the positive posts. I would like to add that I am psyched that we are 4-0 after four weeks, lots of injuries and some exciting games, and I am pretty confident that we are going to be 5-0 at the end of this weekend.

Awesome post brother! I share alot of your love and excitement for this year's team, maybe my favorite one to watch yet (though I say that every year )

Washington has a thigh injury, I'm hoping he is healthy at some point and we unveil a new KR. We really need a threat back there, despite the new rules look at certain games in last year's playoffs like DEN-BAL, NE-HOU, and the super bowl where kickoff returns had a major influence. Thankfully in our game we were just that much better than Houston, but KR was the sole reason they were in it into the 2nd half. In the close playoff games where our offense isn't quite clicking the way it normally does (happens more often than not lately) a weapon like Leon can be a major asset.

Hope Ridley's injury is nothing serious, we need him Sunday. Bolden is not 100% and suffered another injury in ATL, who knows if HE will even suit up. Blount has had 2 big runs and may be fit for protecting leads for us, but is not the man you want to generate a run game early on.

I really enjoyed your post, but just want to add my 2 cents about this point. I don't think it's fair to Boyce to judge him for not beating out Thompkins, regardless of where he was drafted. In 4 weeks. Thompkins has clearly showed that he belongs, to the point that he and DeAndre Hopkins are basically neck and neck for best rookie receiver right now, with Robert Woods being the only one who's even close.

Kenbrell Thompkins - 15 rec, 257 yards, 3 TD
DeAndre Hopkins - 20 rec, 270 yards, 1 TD
Robert Woods - 11 rec, 201 yards, 2 TD

Tavon Austin - 20 rec, 124 yards, 2 TD
Justin Hunter - 2 rec, 50 yards, 2 TD
Aaron Dobson - 11 rec, 118 yards, 1 TD
Keenan Allen - only 110 yards, but 80 of them came this week - seems like he might be catching on
Ace Sanders - 14 rec, 162 yards

If Thompkins looks like he's head and shoulders above Dobson and Boyce right now, it's because he's exceeding all expectations, rather than any shortcoming on their parts.

Agreed - tackle is one of those positions where you mostly just notice them when they screw up. Well, at this rate, I don't expect that we'll notice Solder much this year.

As vocal a critic as I was of the Seymour trade when it happened, hindsight has clearly proven me wrong. Solder's a stud at one of the most important positions in the game.

It's so out of place that it makes me laugh.

Oh please do share! ;)

For years I have wondered who that was.

I just guessed it was either DS or his wife.

If that was his wife, he wouldn't be wasting his time here on the forums....

Hint: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Fixed for accuracy.

Should have just asked. And my wife is better looking!

Great point!

I do want to see more from Boyce given where he was taken. But that Thompkins is an outlier reflects more on him than either Dobson or Boyce, I agree.

And I'm glad you enjoyed the OP.
