From Studfeld to Dudfeld

My thoughts exactly. Sudfeld isn't really a top receiving TE, but as a complimentary guy I think he can do some damage.

This. He could become the Scotty Pippen of the NFL. He won’t be the guy – but will prove to be a productive 3rd or 4rth option in the red zone. (My apologies to Gronk for selling him short with my analogy).

He's a UDFA rookie

Suds is deff a dud :bricks:

It Is What It Is » targets

Targets have been compiled by the NFL since the start of the 2009 season, and while it remains a vaguely imperfect stat — a badly thrown ball from a quarterback can often go against the record of the receiver as opposed to the quarterback — it remains a good indication of the confidence level a passer might have in his pass catcher. Here’s a look at the target breakdown for the New England passing game after the first four games of the 2013 season:

WR Julian Edelman: 34 catches on 43 targets
WR Kenbrell Thompkins: 15 catches on 39 targets
WR Aaron Dobson: 11 catches on 30 targets
WR Danny Amendola: 10 catches on 14 targets
RB Shane Vereen: 7 catches on 10 targets
RB Brandon Bolden: 6 catches on 7 targets
TE Michael Hoomanawanui: 3 catch on 5 targets
RB Stevan Ridley: 3 catches on 3 targets
FB James Develin: 2 catches on 2 targets
WR Josh Boyce: 1 catch on 6 targets
TE Matthew Mulligan: 1 catch on 1 target
TE Zach Sudfeld: 0 catches on 3 targets
RB Leon Washington: 0 catches on 1 target
RB LeGarrette Blount: 0 catches on 1 target

By position
Wide receiver: 71 catches on 132 targets
Running back/fullback: 18 catches on 24 targets
Tight end: 4 catches on 9 targets

We have 7 UDFA's and 2 7th rounders on the team. We expect productions from all of them. This seems a bit unreasonable.

In any case, we'll know more when Gronk comes back. After being a pre-season phenom, Sudfeld is behind Hooman and Mulligan on the depth chart. That decline impresses some of us.

There are many options with regard to Sudfeld. We could waive him (and then to the PS we would hope). We could keep him on the 53, but have him inactive. We could have on the 53 in a minor role. Or we could try him as a move TE opposite Gronk in 2 TE sets.

Yes, much depends on the kid's confidence. IMHO, much more depends on Brady's confidence in him and the coaches' confidence in him.

IN ANY CASE, an UDFA who is active for his first four NFL games is NOT a dud.

Personally, I would probably have him on inactive 53 man roster in some games, and on the active roster in others. Obviously, he could get more reps based on performance.

IMHO, Sudfeld is a better prospect than Beauharnais, and is more likely to be picked up by another team if he is waived.

Sudfeld needs to discover PED's.

I believe he'll wake up. Eventually.

I respectfully, but completely, disagree with this statement.

fair enough

You could very well be right.

There were two parts of my statement.

With regard to the most likely to be picked up, I think that we will see Belichick's opinion soon. I suspect that we will need the roster spot for someone.

With regard to being a better prospect, I think that we might need to wait a couple of years to see.

He's a rookie. I would be willing to bet that he improves a lot towards the end of the season.

Weklah was cut from the Chargers. Woodhead was cut from the Jets.

He needs moar time to figgur s hit out.

A tip o' the scally cap in your direction, and a whack from the shillelagh to me.
In my haste to pronounce Dudfeld as someone who would easily pass waivers,
I forgot to take the idiocy of the J-E-S-T into account. They can have him.

Joseph Fauria should've been the UDFA TE to be signed here, and Dallas Clark &
his nerve-damaged hands should've been signed as soon as The Prisoner was waived.
He could've taught Austin Collie the playbook by now.

"The Prisoner"...heh....

Can't claim The Prisoner moniker as my own; PWP was the first poster I saw use it.
Still funny, though.

Isn't any reference to The Prisoner kinda verboten here now since the thread with thousands of posts got removed because of persistent whiners? No mention of the fact that the career criminal who accused and sued the not to be named person of shooting him in FL was arrested this week and summoned to testify to the grand jury investing the double murder that happened well before the Lloyd slaying. Guy needs a good lawyer to get him a deal for turning state's evidence...unless HE was the shooter in the double club murder.

In trying to play catch-up, I didn't notice that the thread had been removed. Pity.
