So which is it, are they still awaiting results or is Wilfork done for the year?

They are still awaiting results as of Belichick's conference call..

Haste ye back as we say in Scotland

when we was all worried about DT dept and a injury I did not think that it would ever happen to Wilfork at lest not the kind that would put him on IR. and how big is the signing of Kelly now

Possibilities if Vince IS done for the year:

Sione Pouha - Former NT with the Jets
Casey Hamption - Former NT with the Steelers
Antonio Garay - Former NT with the Chargers

Hampton is toast but I would look at Pouha and Garay. Armstead is due back in a couple of weeks so that might help but it looks like a full commitment to 4-3 is the more likely outcome. Pair kelly and vellano inside with Jones and Ninkovich as the ends and Spikes Mayo and Hightower at Lb and they should be alright. Hate to see Wilfork go down, he's one of my favorite Patriots all time and a HOFer imo but you have to go on and major injuries are always a part of the game, unfortunate as that is.

Why not all 3 if they're healthy? :p

Pouha when his back is fine is immense against the run
Hampton has the experience in big games and was always always good against the run
Garay is more of an attacking NT and not as good against the run

Pouha isn't horrible. He is a good run down player. Not so much on passing downs.

Hampton was done 2 years ago, I wouldn't waste a call to him.

Sunday notes: The book on Woody - New York Jets Blog - ESPN New York
7. Bleak for Big 'Bo': Former Jets NT Sione Po'uha, who was released after the season, likely is done with football, according to former teammates. Po'uha still is experiencing complications from a back injury that plagued him last season, they said. Ever the warrior, Po'uha, 34, is trying to get healthy with the hope of prolonging his career, but it won't be easy to get medical clearance. The Jets certainly miss his presence in the locker room.

This was as of August 4. I'm going to guess that if he was still have complications in early August, he's not ready to play football two months later.

It sucks for Vince, but the team will be fine. He was doing nothing this year anyway and now we know why. Defense was still very good with him being rag dolled by Ducasse. Hope he gets better for next season.

This is a new NFL. How much value a big space eater has anymore, I do not know.

This is pretty much the second worst thing that could have happened. Best wishes to Big Vince and I look forward to seeing him again in 2014.

If they need a NT, Casey Hamptons a name that might play. He's up there at 36, but he'd fit the need if he can still play.

Understanding that nobody is going to replace Vince, why should we expect aging vets who are home watching TV to offer more than the young guys BB already selected to be on the roster instead of them? I expect to see trial by fire with the new DTs just like we are seeing with the WRs. besides, there is plenty of time to sign a vet in the worst case scenario that they are all duds. Vellano was a surprise UDFA in TC just like KT.

The problem is that previous times of "trial by fire" have resulted in the Pats not making the play-offs. 2002 comes to mind when they were without a true NT.

They may go with Francis, Forston, Jones and Vellano, but the think that someone like Hampton/Pouha bring is veteran leadership. That's something that can't be replaced.

Thing is Pouha isn't healthy and Hampton is burnt, crispy toast.

Hampton played injured his last 2 years.. So, again, it would depend on if he was healthy. As for him being toast, I believe it was directly related to his injuries.. If healthy, he'd help.
