It Is What It Is » Patriots release cornerback Marquice Cole

The Patriots released veteran cornerback Marquice Cole on Friday.

The 29-year-old Cole is a veteran of four NFL seasons with the Jets (2009-11) and Patriots (2012). The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder joined New England as a free agent on March 19, 2012 and was re-signed by the team on March 20. Cole was released by the Patriots on Sept. 1 and re-signed by the team one day later on Sept. 2.

No corresponding roster move announced yet.

Hmm. Wonder who is coming onto the 53. I'd wager he's back at some point this season. Wonder if he's ailing at all, based on the fact that we've cut him twice but generally like what he has to offer.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't brought back. As for the roster move? I think it'll probably be Larry Fitzgerald lololol.

At this point. it is probably a PSer.

He'll probably bring in that guy. The one from that team we talked about in that thread that one time. I read a rumour on Belichick magazine. :D

Did he marry into the Ventrone family?

Oh THAT guy? Yeah I remember that guy.

Belichick must have woken up a little grumpy this morning, and thought to himself,

"I'm a little out of sorts. I know what would make me feel better! I'll cut me a Ventrone. Oh. the list says I don't have a Ventrone. Let's see. I know! I'll cut me a Marquice. I just love saying Mar-queece! Yup. That did the trick."

Good luck, Marquice. Stay by the phone.

I think you can infer either one or a combination of 2 things from this semi-surprising release.

1. They are confident that Logan Ryan has passed Cole on the CB depth chart

2. They have already decided to add another player and needed the roster spot. That player will be signed before the weekend is over

Also I'm pretty sure that Marquise will be on speed dial should their be an injury in the secondary, but as of now, the Pats have more pressing needs.

Interesting that they DIDN'T cut one of the many DE's at their disposal.

Vollmer injured, Svitek injured. Need a tackle.

Yup. They're going to get another healthy body for the OL then probably release him and bring Cole back once Vollmer is back to full health.

Realistic scenario: PS OL being called up.
Dream scenario: Alex Mack is being traded for to bolster the interior OL.

The other thing I was thinking is that maybe they know something on the Dennard situation that makes them more certain of his availability through the whole season (at least judicially available - as no one on this team ever appears certain health wise).

I may be mistaken because I was half paying attention but on one of the PFW's this week someone mentioned he hobbled through the locker room with a huge bag of ice taped to his leg.

Cole is injured. After all, we could have waived Beauharnais if we just needed a roster spot.

We need an offensive lineman. We could call up an OL or Ster from the Practice Squad.

Probably a OL but it was good that vollmer was practicing.

Well, if they need another tackle, the only guy available on the PS is Jordan Devey.

Kanorris Davis signed, per Ben Volin. Good sign for the health of either Vollmer or Svitek, I guess.

Makes some sense. I was going to note that Coles' greatest contribution seemed to be as a gunner, a role that he handles quite well, IMO.

Adding another STer seems logical. I think that is what Davis brings o the table too. Also, it is an encouraging sin on Vollmer that an OL wasn't added.

I was thinking on the ride home that they might call him up for special teams, my hunch was correct!
