Has anyone here tried out for an nfl team?

I need a field to show at, and commitment, and were good to go. Its understandable that this will be sloppy the 1st few years, but lets do it ,lol, be so much fun.

I can play cornerback or receiver.

I have a friend who played linebacker for Steelers and Panthers. Second string, only started like 12 games. The guy is a beast, even after a few years away. 6'4" muscle freak. I also have utmost respect for how tough this league is, these guys are freaks of nature, people who could squish me like a bug can't even make the practice squad.

Doesn't mean I can't hate on Ras I Dowling though :O

God I sucked at corner, lol. They had me running kickoffs back and on defense they tried me at corner and safety also, but I wasnt that good. Thats a special skill set. In the air I could never figure out where the ball was, lol

I could have been the example used for the joke about being a cornerback:

"If a cornerback could actually catch a ball, he'd be playing wide receiver."

:rocker:

Could you reprint some of your stories or maybe start a thread and talk about some of the players and experiences you worked on / enjoyed?

OK, I'll start with the Pats and maybe pick up with a few of the others when I have more time:

I worked a short while for Patriots Football Weekly back in the '90s after leaving my job as reporter for the Lowell Sun. (In transition to becoming self-employed.) I attended the team's 1994 draft and talked to Parcells about first-round pick Willie McGinest -- nothing too special, just asked him what Willie thought about coming to New England from California. Bill said Willie was rarin' to get started.

I wrote the cover story for the Pats' 1997 yearbook, interviews with Drew Bledsoe and Terry Glenn about their special on-field chemistry. One illustrative example we focused on was this special play I remembered them connecting on time and again for 20-25 yard gains: run-fake to Curtis Martin, Bledsoe roll-out and deep sideline pass to Glenn on a comeback route. Under Parcells they called the play ride 335 throwback. Under Pete Carroll it was called slot double left fake 25 boot right 979 flat.

We did the interviews by phone. Drew was a bright, articulate affable guy, very accommodating and good to talk to. Glenn not so much. Not because he was a bad guy or anything, he just wasn't great expressing himself in an interview. When we finished he asked me if he did OK, which showed he cared.

When I get the energy I'll post about meeting George Halas, which was a real special moment for me. For a few minutes it was just the two of us in his private box in Soldier Field.

Trained at a football camp with Chad Eaton when we were both seniors in high school. I think my roommate was signed by the Bengals, Bills,or Browns but I don't even remember his name

That's all I got.:bricks:

It actually sounds like a winner of an idea to me. I'll be ironic and wear my Woodhead jersey (6'4" 220).

I'll wear Tim Brady. I throw as accurate as Tim and run as fast as Brady.

you "tried out" for a Madden team?

do you live in a bubble?

I went to high school with Freddie Smerlas, who was a dominant high schooler obviously and later went on to have a great NFL career. Maybe even more impressive, however, was that in high school he decided to take up wrestling to stay in shape in the off season and became an All American. I saw him pin larger guys in under 10 seconds time and time again. Guy was a beast.

Me? I never played past Pop Warner.

I boinked a Baltimore Raven Cheerleader. I also sparred against Andre Tippett in the mid-80's when a bunch of the Pats lived in Stoughton. Thats my NFL claim to fame.

Oh...and I met Bob Kraft walking by himself down a street somewhere in Boston. He stopped and said hi to a complete stranger.

I read Freddie's book, "By a Nose". He talked a lot about how wrestling helped his development and career as a dominant NT.
