Which 2012 production will me miss most? I am not talking about potential, just replacement.
Which if any is a catastrophic loss for the team, and why?

74 911 12.3
51 483 9.5
40 446 11.2

You should include games played in those stats, because I see what you're trying to do here.

2012 production is 2012 production. We need to replace 165 catches and 1840 yards. This represents about 40% of 2012 production.

Of course, our defense is improved and our running game may be improved, so we do not HAVE to replace all the completed passes.

Yes, one of these players was injured for many games. When he was out, the "replacement" focus for the team was much more important than he was.

Vereen can replace Woodhead when he returns. Hernandez wont be replaced. Lloyd had nearly 1000 yards but it seems like he had no impact.

Hernandez's production will be missed the most because I think he gained tough yards.

Brady doesn't need to throw for 5,000 yards for the offense to be effective.

Another thread lamenting the offensive player selections. Too bad that fool Kraft extended the GM's contract.

We don't need an apples for apple's replacement of the stats. As the last two games show winning ugly counts too. We certainly need improvement and health because it will be tough to sustain this type of winning. But replacing the stats means squat. We need to keep finding ways to win so that the guys can develope and so that others can get healthy and hopefully come playoff time we have a team at that point that would be able to replicate stats.

Ain't awful...

Listening to the radio this morning the mediots were fueling this fire, if I had the time and patience would call an ask them about all the successes... i.e. the O Line, D Line, Linebackers, RB's, ST's....

Right now this offense has few options, and that allows the D to focus on the new guys and there are no passes to RB's which helps in the run game..

They will figure it out, and things will get a whole lot better...

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has mentally blocked out the Hernandez situation and (mostly) moved on. That said, I think his production is missed most because of the timing of everything with him this summer.

• Welker, Pats moved on and signed Amendola;
• Woodhead, good luck with the money, but we like Vereen;
• Lloyd, clubhouse negative, let's give some young guys a chance to develop while Gronk, Amendola, Vereen and, yes, Hernandez carry the passing game.

No doubt the offseason would have played out differently had the Hernandez situation played out earlier. But it didn't, and I don't see how you can second-guess BB for that. All things considered, I still believe IF this offense can get all or even most of its pieces healthy, it will still be very formidable.

The New York Giants have taught us that STATS DONE MEAN A THING--if you ain't got that swing.

Bingo, we have Bingo....

I agree completely...

This thread is NOT lamenting our offensive player selections. We all have done plenty of that (and reasonably so).

This thread simply looks at 3 of our top 2012 contributors and asks whether we can reasonably replace the 2012 production (not required to win, but definitely a plus). In general, I view this as a POSITIVE thread indicating that we are in a position to have as good an offense as last year for the playoff run. Of course, injuries could affect this.

I agree the WOODHEAD will be replaced by Vereen when he gets back. We have also have Washington, who must still be injured, but is the backup for Vereen in this role. I suspect that Woodhead will be greatly missed, but Belichick did all he could do to replace Woodhead.

I don't agree with the throw the excrement against the wall approach to matching the production of LLOYD. All through the offseason, the reasonable idea was that we would have a veteran who would be our #2 or #3 receiver or even #4 receiver. There was a HOPE that Dobson would be the #2. Later in the preseason, we somewhat even more reasonably came to expect that one of the youngsters would step up to be the #2 or #3. What happened? Sanders could have been offered a couple of million more to be a one year bridge for the kids. Belichick didn't do this, presumably because he thought more of Jones, Jenkins and Hawkins. In the end, with 2 roster spots open (and now with one dedicated to a backup special teamer), Belichick chose to go with no veteran backup. We have Edelman to replace Branch's and his 2012 role. HOWEVER, it seem that we should have a backup on the 53 in case Edelman is injured or there is not enough production from 2 of the kids.

And yes, I expected Gronk and a second TE to be able to produce what the TE's did in 2012.
Just 3 weeks ago, folks were suggesting (delusional though they be) which TE we should trade away. After all, we had too many backups in Fells, Hooman, Ballard and Sudfeld. Now, Belichick is happy to find Mulligan available as a fill in, and Solder is our #3 TE. So, some of these difficult receptions will be made by Edelman, partnering with Amendola in place of Welker and Hernandez. This is not OK, but it is a reasonable replacement for what Hernandez did in 2012. We had a missed opportunity to see Gronk and Hernandez both healthy and productive. However, this is not necessary to improve over the 2012 offense.

BOTTOM LINE

We have had many threads focusing on the kids. However, it is well to note that we should be reasonably fine in replacing the 2012 production of Hernandez and Woodhead (and also of Edelman/Branch. Our dink and dunk will be fine when Amendola, Edelman and Gronkowski are on the field together. Even then, we need a 3rd WR from among the kids (or an added vet). That is an OK expectation (noting that we haven't been able to do this since 2002).
And what happens when one of big three is not available?

It seems to me that we can be fine with health and production from one of the kids. For me, it would be prudent to have a veteran receiver and a 4th TE on the roster (if not Mulligan, then someone else). The good news is that we can do this in one easy phone call to a vet TBD. The roster spot can be easily found.

So, we might start 4-4 and still be in fine shape. We also could start 6-2. Splitting the next 6 games is fine with me (5-3 for the first half).

Which if any is a catastrophic loss for the team, and why?

74 911 12.3 - Lloyd
51 483 9.5 - Hernandez
40 446 11.2 - Woodhead

Based on last game - all three.

You can't be 6 pro bowlers deep at TE, WR and RB. These are the pieces we've got. It's time to put the puzzle together. In three years we might be doing irish jigs in excitement because we have two pro bowl WRs, a pro bowl TE, and a pro bowl RB. You have to wait and see how things pan out.

Maybe, but IMHO is unreasonable for a TE oriented team to go into a game with Hooman, Mulligan and Solder as our tight ends.

Why do so many people keep anguishing over the past?
Make's no sense to me.

Danny Woodhead, and then Shane Vereen, are the biggest loss in my opnion. Throughout Brady's entire career he has had a 3rd down/receiving RB that he can rely on. I remember Ray Lewis was interviewed about Brady and it was about the best play he ever saw him make. It was a simple completion to Kevin Faulk.

We're not a TE oriented team. We're a personnel oriented team. We had two Pro Bowl TEs that could both catch. As of right now we have 0 of those.

Woodhead was the most easily replaceable, as his replacement was already on the roster, although that replacement has gotten injured. The question with Woodhead is really whether or not he would have been worth the money to keep around in a backup 3rd down RB role. $3.5 million over 2 years (with a million in signing bonus) is a pretty good chunk of change to pay for someone in that role. while I wish Woodhead could have been retained, I can understand why they let him move on.

Given the facts around his situation, I'd say his was the least impactful loss to the team of the three options given.

agreed, but despite his higher production if you throw in lloyd's lack of deep threat, lack of yac, and above all supposed 'locker-room cancer'; he is a very close 2nd to least impactful loss (IMO).

I expect dobson to provide more synergy to the offense this year even if his fantasy #s dont end up = to Lloyds.
