The Official Patriots vs Jets POST Game Thread

I don't see anything completely egregious about last night. In fact, I think it was a blessing in disguise that BB was forced to use two rookie receivers. In the past he's been loathe to do that because of the complexity of the offense and because of Brady's pickiness, so we've seen a long line of used up vets at that position, barely able to outrun coverage.

However, last night, we saw something we haven't seen in forever: separation.

I think that for the most part, as long as you have that, everything else is fixable, catching ability included, and especially running coverage-dictated routes. In the long run (e.g., late season) I think this would really work to the offense's benefit.

I don't think I've seen Brady throw the long ball as much as he did last night, in a long time.

Our secondary played great last night. I thought a good amount of pressures and sacks were the result of Geno holding on to the ball because our secondary covered so well.

Gregory was strong on run support and his tackling especially was great.

Vellano again filled in nicely.

Hightower looked pretty good.

Not much from Spikes or Mayo.

Ducasse surprisingly handled Vince.

The Jets OL for the most part pushed our DL on running plays.

Our OL got their $h!t pushed in by the Jets DL when we tried to run. Wilkerson and Richardson are both going to be problems.

McD got predictable. When Brady was under center, it was a run. When he was in shotgun, it was a pass. The Jets defense knew exactly when we threw those bubble screens to our WRs.

Patricia I thought did a great job adjusting our D. He started mixing it up a bit with blitzes. Even when they didn't blitz, at least they disguised their pre-snap look.

As someone mentioned, running wrong routes is easily correctable. Dropping passes is a bit harder to correct.

Why is Blount returning kickoffs? Leon suited up and playing but BLount is back there. The most mystifying coaching decision so far this year.

Those long bombs to Edelman are almost like throwaway plays. Not sure why he even goes long. He's quick, not fast and it's not like he can breakaway and get under those bombs. Plus he doesn't have the physicality to fight off defenders to get the ball.

A win is a win. These close games will get us ready for close games come December and playoffs.

I'm not sure how Breer doesn't understand that most DB's typically try to stay in bounds for as long as possible at the end of the game when they intercept the pass to drain the most time possible off the clock. That's what Talib was doing. Mangold could have hit him out of bounds without going after his knee. If Talib didn't spin like he did, he could be getting MRI's today for a possible torn ACL.

On watching the play again, I think one thing you can't underestimate is football instincts and a lifetime of training. I think what Talib saw, and what I saw, was a Jets team that gave up on the play. So he went for the extra yardage. No one even tried to wrap him up.

I don't get that either? And Blount returning kicks, especially with Washington dressed is confounding as well.

They didn't need to drain any time off the clock. Jets had no more timeouts left. Who cares if NE had to do two kneels instead of one? Talib should have gone down or immediately ran OOB. Talk to McCree about that.

JI level of denial ...In short, it looks to me like Mangold launched himself at Talib's thighs. Talib moved away from Mangold (and also turned his body away as well). The result of this is that Mangold ended up coming down on the back of Talib's legs at the knee, instead of hitting him in the thighs.

Clearly JI level of denial.

Denying that the Mangold hit was somewhat dirty is even further denial than JI.

I'd love to spin it, blame it on the showboating, but yeah, have to agree. No idea what he was thinking.

Heck, I'd forgive him if he just blew up his mid-section tp prove a point....but the knee thing....cant rationalize that to be anything more than it was, a dirty, dangerous, impulsive f-up.

Dirty. Should be fined.

Even Belichick, who doesn't react to much, thought it was a bogus hit and chewed him out for it. Denying the dirt in this is some kind of trolling. Mangold is not exactly new to the game. He knew exactly what he was doing there.

Mangold is a punk who was clearly diving into Talib's knees while he was out of bounds. He could have dove short and chose not to. He will get a fine.

The only reason that Talib's career is not over is that he was in the air when contact was made. If his feet are planted that knee gets destroyed.

A fine isn't good enough for me.

Football instinct should include knowing the situation and that a few yards are meaningless. They gave up on the play because only an idiot wouldn't just fall down and it looked for a 2nd like he was going to.

For me, the last two games crystallized why the Pats let Welker walk. They basically got nearly the same production out of two different players. I really wouldn't expect a drastically different result in either game swapping DA or JE for WW. All things being equal, I prefer WW but I can understand the business decision.

And we all have seen games in the past when WW was the only weapon due to injuries and Brady force feeds him and the offense looked almost as stagnant as it did last night.

The real issue is that there is NO ONE ELSE ON OFFENSE right now. As soon as Gronk gets back, we'll see a huge boost. Then hopefully DA comes back shortly after. And then Vereen. All the while, the rookies learn and get better.

2-0 is 2-0 no matter the score. They'll probably be 3-0 after TB and if Gronk is back in Atlanta they'll probably be 2.5 pt dogs, winnable game.

I fully expected this offense to look sloppy for the first few months of the season. It's all about staying competitive until Thanksgiving.

Mangold on Belichick: "He got heated about it," Mangold said. "I was a little surprised by that. I figured he'd have a little bit more poise."

What a ******* punk. Belichick still had more poise than Rex has during a missed FG. Playing for the biggest clown in football and then playing the 'What me, hurt someone?' card is as bad as the hit.

Own it *****.

I love how the run game was replaced by quick passes to Edelman. If the Patriots continue to have trouble run blocking against good defensive fronts, Amendola and Edelman will both have a lot of short targets.

But those same run D LBs will simply start knocking the little guys at the LOS

- Gregory surprised me in a good way
- vince is concerning me a bit. He looks almost
too big right now.
- the receiver issues will get better - as many have said the
separation was there
- actually more concerned about the run game than the passing
- did Gost slip on that miss - looked like he was doing the funky chicken after he swung
- I think the bills and jets D's are better than expected

Wilfork was getting held all night. It was worst vs Buffalo where the Bills outright put a choke hold on him.

Brady was approximately 70% in completing passes to Edelman and 26% to everyone else.

Jets fans are whining about the Edelman non fumble.

"Talib picked off an underthrown Geno Smith pass in the final minute to essentially ice the 13-10 win for the Pats. Instead of immediately going down, Talib hung out on the field for a few seconds before stepping out of bounds. Even after stepping out, Jets lineman Nick Mangold decided to dive at the defensive back’s legs in the kind of dirty move that could cause serious knee damage. Talib seemed to avoid an injury, but his coaches and teammates on the sidelines were ticked off at Mangold’s play."

You have to be a major douchebag to do what Mangold did with the game OVER. I was THERE,just got back. I find THIS????????????? You SAW this on TV and thought..."aww shucks...nice hit"....WTF is the matter with YOU??? Really? That hit was as reprehensible a scumbag play as ANY dirty hit by Adummycon Susan.

In the stands as it happened the entire crowd that was left went nuts. I'm soaked and from the looks of it, going to be very disappointed with all the armchair head coaches tearing this DIVISIONAL WIN apart..

You have to be a major douchebag to misquote someone and claim they said it was a "nice hit'. I never said that and you're being absolutely stupid for implying such. I said the hit to the KNEES wasn't intentional. And if you look at the replay in SLOW MOTION, frame by frame, you see that Mangold actually left his feet a split second before Talib jumps.

Do yourself a favor, Joker. Stop posting while your buzzed. You're a better poster when you do and you don't over-react like an unintelligent homer who doesn't know a damn thing about the game.

I love the smell of manure in Foxboro in the evening. Smells like... victory!

Regards,
Chris
