Alright....i'm calling it!!!!

If the Pats running game has any success with Ridley/Bolden/Blount and Washington, it will be a LOOOOONG night for the Yets.

The Play/Action will kill the Jet's D. :rocker:

Call whatever you want, if it results in a win tomorrow, I approve! :D

I gotta say I've had a hard time getting excited for the game the last few days, but this morning has got me wishing it was kickoff already.

Our internal fan clocks are all messed up. It's a little disorienting going right to a Thursday night on week 2 — and then knowing there's no Pats game Sunday. But hey, it's the Jets, so, gotta enjoy it. (Also, not that fans and players remotely prepare for games the same way, but I think the rhythm this week also plays into the way BB went all walk throughs this week. All about peaking at the right time)

And he's used to the turd as oposed to the ice rink they seemed to be playing on last week.

I thought this was a home game ;)

Not if he gets Cromartie...

this

not sure if cro is actually going to cover him or not ... if he does he is usually very sound on deep balls ... although he gave vincent jackson a bigger cushion on sunday that we were used to seeing last season ... i wouldn't expect thompkins to get the same respect on short balls that jackson received ... i'll go with a modest 5 catches for 45 yards.

Jackson is bigger and was boxing him out. I don't think Thompkins can box him out. If Cromartie can get his hands on Thompkins at the LOS, then Thompkins isn't having a big game at all. Pats need to pound the run in this game, force those safeties up, then hit on the play action.

This is not altogether unrealistic as I expect Ryan to double up on Edelman.

Who ever thought we'd be discussing teams double covering Edelman?

True, the quick turnaround played into it. I'm glad they are getting their obligated thursday night game out of the way early this season.

Worried about brady getting hit in this game like the buffalo game. Lot of those were because WRs did not get open or kept running into each other forcing brady to hold the ball longer. Jets are going to shut the run down like they shut doug martin and ask brady to throw. If he has to hold the ball longer, it is trouble for us. Maybe they can get the kids started of with some easy catches. Best situation is our defense helps us out in this game.

After many years of being pestered to join our company’s FF team – I finally gave in this year. Just claimed KT off of waivers …Championship B!@#ch!

Maybe I am delusional from not getting much sleep, or maybe I have ALREADY had TOO many cups of some crazy Honduran coffee that my wife found somewhere...but I just had this incredible PREMONITION that Kenbrell Thompkins is going to have a HUGE game tomorrow night!!!! The guy was actually really close on a lot of plays last weekend and showed a ton of promising things for the future, and now coming home to a field he is used to playing on....LOOK OUT!! Thompkins is going to have a BIG night!!! I'm calling it right now!!!! GO PATS!!!!

Being the only healthy WR on the roster helps that premonition along!

But I'm with you - Brady will continue to target him frequently as he did Sunday (and that alone will force the D to be honest, at least for awhile)

And since I had a premonition of him being a keeper the day he signed (you can check the thread) that bodes well for Thursday as well!

I saw an article on this site that Cromartie might match up with Edelman, but I don't understand why that makes sense for the Jets. Cromartie has given the X receiver fits, whether it's Moss, Branch, or Lloyd. He excels against athletic receivers and struggles against shifty slot guys. Welker torched Cromartie until Ryan decided to put Revis on Welker and Cromartie on Moss/Lloyd. When that happened the Jets shut down our receivers (although the tight end situation was quite a different matchup problem.)

Anyway, I think Cromartie matches up with Thompkins, as they know that, despite Sunday's struggles, KT is Brady's top target at this point. 14 targets tells us a lot, and now two other main guys are out.

It is possible that Cromartie rotates between Thompkins, Boyce, and Dobson, depending on who is out there and possibly as a "momentum killer" against whoever seems to catch a few passes during a drive.

My prediction is that the Patriots shock the world by coming out in a 4 WR offense with 3 rookies and Edelman. I think the reason is strategic- basically, this might be a game where the best matchup is our 3rd/4th receiver against someone low on the NYJ depth chart. If the Pats try to setup the pass by establishing the run, they could be in trouble. The Jets are pretty stout against the run, and they know if they can break the Pats will to run the ball, they really can win this game.

And if/when the Pats win with all these rookies, the wiseguys will point out that they're the first team since 1960 to open against two rookie QBs, so they should be 2-0. #modernmedia

Nice insight. I was thinking something similar myself about having better match ups with the 3rd/4th guy. Lets just hope Dobson and Boyce bring there A game.

A few things:

  • Rex usually puts his best CB on the other team's best WR. Right now that is Cromartie on Edelman. Right or wrong for the strategy.
  • Cromartie's year last year might have been a fluke. His entire career, he has been Jeckyl and Hyde. Last year, he was mostly Jeckyl with very little Hyde. Last week he was awful.
  • The Jets at the moment have a problem at CB. Milliner has yet to show he is a starting quality CB as of yet. He has been consistently burnt and out of position. He is having similar struggles the Pats' rookie WRs are having just on the other side of the ball. And Kyle Wilson sucks. The Jets may be best off putting Cromartie on Edelman and hope they win the rookie vs. rookie battle.

i wouldn't go so far as calling cro's performance awful ... some of vincent jackson's catches cro wasn't on him ... but cro certainly wasn't near the level he was at last season or needs to be

I didn't watch the game obviously since it was on opposite the Pats. I did hear that none of the CBs did well. Cro was still the best, but Milliner was far worse covering Jackson.

Our #3 WR should be very open, very often.
