Report: Danny amendola ‘almost certain’ to miss jets game

Karen Guregian ‏@kguregian 8m

According to source, Amendola's status beyond Thursday's game uncertain as well

He wants to shed this injury-prone label, he's got to find a way to play through pain. Sounds like he may not play the next two games.

I took one day for everyone to turn back on the guy who really shouldnt have played the 2nd half on sunday. He is injured. Was injured before the game. ***** happens. Dont know how it is his fault.

You're talking about a fanbase that turned on Welker after the most productive six seasons of football that any NFL receiver has ever had, not surprising they would turn on Amendola after one week. the good news is that once the Patriots actually have a bad season 99% of them will stop watching football.

Players get hurt, it's a fact of life in the NFL, those who think it makes them ****ies are idiots.

I honestly don't think you guys are giving enough credit to the Jets.

Yes, recently, they've been bad, especially on offense but they still have a more than capable defense, especially with our "current situation".

Edelman was good, but he can't do it alone.
We don't even know if Dobson is playing yet.
Hopefully Ridley can get it together because the Jets shut Martin down last week.

This won't be easy.

No game is a layup, but I would rather rest Amendola for the next two games than have it being a lingering thing for the entire season or in games where the Pats will need to get into a shootout.

The Jets are not a team that is going to put 30 points on you. They could win this game, but it is likely that if they win it will be that both teams are going to score in the teens or low 20s at most. They are missing arguably their best receiver in Kerley too.

Losing Amendola against a team with a mediocre offense is a lot easier to overcome than say the Falcons or Saints who have the ability to put 40 points on you.

Yep, although with these types of injuries it seems like they seem to linger regardless of time off. I do agree though, rest him and hope for others to step up.

Huh?!? He proved Sunday that he can play through pain. Not one person questions his toughness. At least no one who actually knows what they are talking about. The questions are whether he can stay healthy.

If it was just a pain management issue, he would be playing Sunday. I have no doubt about it. The concern has to be about any structural damage that might be caused or already caused by the injury and not resting it.

I may be in the minority but I believe that when healthy Amendola is better than Welker. It just sucks that he gets hurt so often.

im not throwing Amendola under the bus for missing one game but that's what separates good from great, Andre Johnson over 11000 yards in he's career but if he did not miss almost 2 seasons worth of games in he's career he would be in the top 5 all time,

Danny amendola maybe younger faster and can make the high wire type catches that welker cant but he will never replace welker

I'm glad you settled that for us after one game.

I think that question has been answered... particularly if he misses more games after Thursday. I just hope the rookies are up to the task because, if they're not, we're going to be looked at the most inept offense we've seen since 2006.

Let Danny rest. I would rather lose him for a couple of weeks than for the entire season. It's not his fault that the WR and TE positions are practically depleted. I Know who I want to blame for that, but I won't name any names. I'll tell you what though, the lack of depth at these positions...PISSES ME OFF.

Not necessarily. They tend to be more likely to heal with time off. They tend to linger when players try to play through it.

There may be a point where he is healed enough that he will play through the injury (which happens more often than not) and that can make the injury linger. Or he could be healed in two or three weeks with no lingering affect. Even if there are lingering affects, it may not affect his play on the field, but it may make him be in a lot of pain on Monday morning.

We had plenty here insisting Amendola was better than Welker before he'd even played a down for the Patriots, and then a whole lot of apparent Alzheimer's victims here insisting that Welker couldn't make the kind of catches that Amendola made on Sunday, despite the fact that Welker's been making them for 6 years.

The question has not be answered. It is trending to that he cannot, but he could have this injury and miss a week or two and never miss another game game in his career.

Missing one or two games due to injury does confirm he is injury prone and cannot stay on the field. Missing a lot more games with more injuries will though. It is a bad start for him, but no guarantee that it will continue.

There were catches on Sunday that Amendola made that the current version of Welker couldn't make and didn't make last year. But he might have made them in previous years. The 2012 version of Welker dropped a lot of passes. The 2011 version of Welker didn't drop any (at least until the Super Bowl).

People think the 2013 version of Welker is the same as the 2007 version. His hands and speed are not like they used to be. He is still a great WR, but he is showing some signs of age. The pass he dropped and John Harbaugh should have challenged last week was a catch he would never drop in the past.

I wanted Welker back and I thought it was a bad move not trying harder to re-sign him, but people refuse to admit that he is showing some signs of age and he isn't the dependable catcher he once was. But he is playing this week which is more than Amendola can say.

Yep. It is unfair and pointless to compare Welker 2007 to Amendola 2013. The right comparison is Amendola 2013 vs. Welker 2013 and perhaps more importantly, Amendola 2015+ to Welker 2015+. The future of the Patriots does not end in 2013. Sometimes you need to take 90% production of one player for 5 years instead of 100% production for 2. That's basically what the Pats decided when they bet on Amendola instead of Welker.

Unfortunately, the "when healthy" part is the caveat. Welker, on the other hand....

:behindsofa:

...got lucky to have a freak injury at the end of a season rather than beginning of season?

Seriously, Amendola's injuries have been due to bad luck, and luck is not something you can possess, it has no predictability. Amendola missed a couple games due to a foot injury last season (shocking, those never happen in the NFL), but other than that his injuries were a dislocated elbow and a dislocated clavicle. These are not things that any reasonable person can look at and honestly suggest a person to be "prone" to future injuries. There is absolutely no logical basis to it, and it's pure ignorance to suggest that he has a higher likelihood of injury than other receivers. Anyone claiming this groin injury is unsurprising is just lying to themselves.

And let's remember this, he missed only 3 games with his clavicle and toughed out (pretty much the reason we won) the entire Bills game with his groin, one thing is for damn sure the guy is a tough SOB. Furthermore, all we know is that he MIGHT miss a game in which he only has 3 days rest, it's not like he's set to miss a significant amount of time here.

I bet Welker would be playing Thursday.

Ahhh, miss him so much.

If the reports are true, this would make 3 consecutive years where he's missed games. Furthermore, we're talking about a player who has played in just 10 of his last possible 33 games, while the man he replaced missed just 3 games in 6 seasons.

Moving forward, all we can do is to hope he gets well and somehow avoids injury in the future.

Give him percoset. Vicoden. Whatever so he cant feel it. Booze??
