Vereen Breaks Wrist

Hopefully Washington can start to turn out a fraction of the production he managed last year in the return game. I'm not sure I can handle watching a freightliner return any more kicks.

Well this is the kind of adversity that can harden a team into a mentally tough monster. I believe the pats led the league in number of different starters in both '03 and '04.

@JayGlazer: RB Shane Vereen broke a small bone in his wrist on 1st play yesterday, scheduled for surgery today. Out few weeks”

He will be back by the Tampa game, and in the meantime it gives Brandon Bolden an opportunity to show he made the 2nd year leap.

For ****'s sake. Losing Amendola and Vereen = the offense will have its hands full even beating the Jets. Hopefully Amendola can play.

Not even just losing a RB - nobody on the roster can play the role that he plays. Hell, only a couple people in the entire MLS could do it with even a little bit of credibility

If Bolden doesn't practice Tues/Wed....the RB position could be in dire straits.

Money for nothing, get the chicks for free :D

The guy needed surgery......so likely a pin is involved. And since we are talking wrist/break/surgery....it could very well be that a tendon popped the bone....skateboarder/roller bladers know what I'm talking about. Thumb gets pulled back as you are breaking your fall. Hopefully not his ball carrying hand....because grip will be a big issue. Since the weeks lost report is minimal, I'm guessing not his carrying hand.

Here it is- weird that it came after the post saying this would come up. Someone is a prophet. Thanks for not warning us about the end of '07!!!!

I wonder if the Chargers would take a 6th round pick for Danny Woodhead.

I just hope Belichick doesn't IR the guy the way he's prematurely pulled the trigger on some players. I guess with Ridley's fumbling problems, he probably can't.

One too many Yo-Ho Plants by Shane ;)

Next man up.

Vereen really showed heart and toughness yesterday, gutting it out with that injury. Where would the team have been without he and Amendola?

Sucks that he's gonna be out for the game against the Clowns, but get well soon buddy. We're gonna need ya for the game in Georgia on SNF.

Bill is a pragmatist, Ridley just went from the doghouse to the penthouse...

I agree. Ridley is given new life. He and Bolden will share the load, and Washington may become the receiving back. As long as Ridley holds onto the ball I'm perfectly ok with this.

EDIT: Here are Ridley's career numbers:

REGULAR SEASON:
- 386 rushes
- 9 receptions
- 7 kick returns
- 402 total touches
- 6 fumbles
- 3 lost fumbles

POST SEASON:
- 37 rushes
- 2 receptions
- 0 kick returns
- 39 total touches
- 2 fumbles
- 2 lost fumbles

TOTAL:
- 441 total touches
- 8 fumbles
- 5 lost fumbles

That means that Ridley has fumbled on 1.8% of his touches. Or, 55 touches per fumble. And 88 touches per lost fumble.

It sure feels worse than that, of course.

This is some crappy news to come home from work too. I think I'll just close my eyes everytime Ridley gets tackled thursday night hoping he doesn't fumble.

Brady will be enough for this team to limp into the playoffs. After that, just hope everyone is 100%, and anything can happen. Maybe this is our Giants kind of season.

Ridley doesn't have a fumbling problem, he just fumbles more than the last guy we had. I mean, he only had one more lost fumble than Benji last year (3 vs. 4).

Look at the fumble rates for all the other workhorse backs in the league, Ridley is right in the ball park with everyone else. There are a few guys who have outstanding ball security, but 4 fumbles in a season isn't bad. Just because he had a fumble in game one doesn't mean he's going to have 16 fumbles this year.

That also doesn't mean fumbling is acceptable, that's why Belichick benched him, it was a bad fumble. Belichick needed to make sure Ridley knows that, so he sat him. He'll still get 250+ carries this year. He's the best runner we have and needs to remain cognizant of ball security. My guess is he holds on pretty tight next week.

BTW, the last fumble he had he got knocked TF out, so it's a little hard to blame him for that one. ***** happens.

Ridley had 2 fumbles in the 1st game of the season. I'm sorry but that's not going to cut it. We've all seen him pull this crap at the most inopportune times.
He needs to get it together pronto. Anyone have Brandon Lloyd's phone number? Will Bolden be back thursday?

Vereen was a badass yesterday. It's these kind of gutzy performances that reastablish my faith in the NFL. He knows he's not playing in the NHL, right? Ditto for Amendola. Speedy recovery to both of them.

Wow this really sucks but like others have said next up.

I would love to see Ridley respond to his terrible play and benching yesterday by having the best game of his career. Realistically though, I do think Ridley will have a strong performance against the Jets to win everybody over again.
