First and foremost, I want to thank the New England Patriots for everything they have done for me. I have nothing but love in my heart as I depart this great organization. Mr. Kraft, the coaches, the strength staff, the trainers, the media personnel, the marketing department, the rest of the amazing staff members at Gillette, and especially my teammates…THANK YOU for all that you have given and have done for me. I want to say that I see the silver lining in things now more than ever, and am a true believer that things DO happen for a reason. This goes out to anyone that will ever come across a mere bump in the road; be thankful, be positive, because there’s a deeper purpose of WHY things happen that we may not yet, or may never come to understand. Just believe. I will miss New England, and more than anything, I’ll be missing the smiles on those kids whom I visited and acted like a goofball in front of. It was ALL worth it. God bless.
I just hope it doesn't effect holding on field goals.
Yep; so when Ghost misses another 40-yarder, he'll have a ready-made excuse for us.
First thing I noticed is that he didn't mention Bill by name.
This is another example of the economics of this team, Mesko was going into his contract year.. they found a competent or what seems to be an equal replacement, so make the move now and spread the money elsewhere..
Don't fall in love with the veterans..
McCourty, Ninkovich and Spikes are all in their contract year...
Also interesting that as a group we spend time on a punter.. nice luxury, imagine being a jets fan right now???
He's had 3 years to build his leg strength, and his accuracy. No, you can't teach it, but you can build it.
Who was holding for him during the preseason? I should have paid attention.
It really sucks that the Pats dumped Mesko. I'm not sold on Allen because he tends to outkick his coverage, which will lead to big gains for the opposing team.
Hope this doesn't lead to another merry-go-round of punters coming in and out of Gillette like we had before Mesko was drafted.
I agree. I hate this move. Mesko's punts were returned an average of 6 yards last year. 3rd best in the NFL.It really sucks that the Pats dumped Mesko. I'm not sold on Allen because he tends to outkick his coverage, which will lead to big gains for the opposing team.

In the last 2 preseason games, the opponents had 8 total return yards on his 5 punts. Furthermore, in each the last 3 preseason games he managed to pin the opponent inside the 10 and averaged about 5 seconds hang time on his punts.
So yeah....I'm going to guess that you didn't actually pay attention to Allen's performance.
