This is the problem with having the SB champs open on the road...

Personally I would just moved the opener to SNF or MNF.

If a compromise with MLB couldn't be reached this seemed to make more sense than the Ravens playing on the road.

Or, the Ravens could have played at noon or 1:00 pm...

Maybe they even could have played on Friday or Saturday night, but that may have cut into the NFL's precious ratings....

The NFL wants its major-network prime-time $$$. It can't be a MNF game because ESPN is a cable station. Sunday night would seem to make more sense than making it an away game, but that would end the league's Thursday night league kickoff gala "tradition." The NFL and MLB are acting like two spoiled bratty kids digging in their heels. I can't blame MLB for not wanting to kowtow, although rescheduling would've cast it as a good neighbor to the community.

The saving grace of this particular game is that one of these teams will lose. And I hope it's Denver. Imagine being a Broncos fan leaving that stadium after a heartbreaking loss with a giant Flacco smiling over your shoulder. :singing:

It would have pit the NFL against high school and college football, which the NFL avoids doing as a matter of policy.

Isn't that a small price to pay to have a home game versus the World Champs instead of an away game?

The decision to have it as a home game was made long before the Ravens won the SB. It just so happens they get it in week 1 now.

It's pretty funny that the NFL is trying to hype the Ravens in Denver, it actually brings a smile to my face. They could have let any 2 teams open the season and then let Baltimore open at home over the weekend but somehow they thought this made more sense. Couldn't have happened to a better team; quite an honor celebrating your championship a couple of time zones away from home.

Look, I really sorta hate New England, it's an overpriced crapland with some nice areas and some of the dumpiest cities east of Gary Indiana. But I was born there, grew up there, bought my first house there, had my first mmmmf experience there.

Point is like ******' hell I'm gonna want the opposing team's unibrowed oaf of a QB immortalized in a giant carnivale banner that blots out the sun.

I say again: Like ******* hell.

Gimme a road game over that **** any day.

Crass maneuver by the NFL. If that abomination was hanging on Gillette I'd find a way to sabotage it. A few paint-filled balloons might do the trick.

This. If that happened in my town's stadium I think I'd simply revert to my old vandalistic ways. No need for a petition

The Orioles look petty for not being more flexible. Despite the experiences we've had locally with all four sports over the past dozen years, championships just don't come around all that often. The community should be allowed to celebrate.
First of all, I don't blame the Orioles one bit for not rescheduling. Why should they bend over backwards and lose money? Is the NFL going to cover all those missed sales?

Second of all, it's not the team's fault as much as it is the players. Both the Orioles and their opponents on that day, Chicago, are flying in from out of town. You can't schedule a 1:00 game on a day where each team was out of town the previous night.

Or Wednesday night. That's what they did last year, albeit for a different reason.

Parking and transportation. The stadiums are very close to one another. I hate both teams, but screw the Ravens. I don't blame the Orioles. It was a perfect example of the almighty NFL believing that every other entity in the world should be unquestionably subservient to them. Elitist bastards...
Yes, the uppity bastards who postpone MNF to not compete with the World Series.:)

The city of Denver's mood swings revolve around the Bronco's ... it's all they have ... this is funny.

Nicer than me. "Potato" gun shooting a tennis ball soaked in lighter fluid. A fireball that will transfer flaming charcoal lighter fluid should be enough to burn through what ever fire proofing they have. Not that anyone on this site actually proposes illegal activity.

Yup,the NFL could say, "Hey, I know you are jacked, but wrap this party up by 4 so you don't interrupt the vital baseball game. OK."

Broncos suck

Ravens suck more

Nobody would like that and the ratings on tv would be way donw if the game was at noon or 1:00 on a Thursday.

LMFAO! When did the NFL "postpone MNF" to not compete with the World Series?

If broncos didn't want to open the season with other teams banners in their stadium then they should have won the super bowl. Also, **** the orioles.

Why should they? Head to head against the World Series, more people nationwide watch MNF.

Why not? It's only baseball. It's not like they'll be exerting themselves to the point of breaking a sweat or getting out of breath.

I believe that is one of the scheduling rules contained in the CBA. The players themselves would have had to have signed off on any change, and I don't blame them for refusing to.

This makes perfect sense. But I believe the Orioles could've scored big points with the Baltimore community by working through MLB to make an exception in this case.
