Some 7th round draft pick Lions stiff got in Brady's face last night (and quickly benched, to Schwartz's credit).

That got me thinking about the comments in the game thread last night that teams know this team won't physically retaliate anymore for this crap and that's too bad... and the book is out on Brady to try and intimidate him.

They have to get nastier or teams will keep trying to push us around.

Retaliating will cost the team 15 yards.

Let other teams be idiots and let the Pats have the free 15 yards.

The problem with retaliating, as we saw last week when Logan Mankins did to Dashon Goldson, is that it is the second player who draws a 15 yard penalty - regardless of the NFL claiming that they will penalize the instigator.

If you want to retaliate then do it a few plays later when all eyes are downfield. The thing is that means the camera is downfield also, so fans don't see it - and assume the team just let the opponent push them around.

That is a good point and very true, but IMO the 15 yards is a small price to pay to send a painful message to other teams that this team won't be pushed around no matter how much they try.

No way a team does this to our QB in the years we were winning SB's.

That's a good point too, and I'd hope that's what they are doing even if it can't be seen. Other teams have to know they can't do this to Brady and get away with it.

I think that is just a matter of the lineman not being around. If Mankins had seen that there would have been a few fists flying.

I liked Brady's reaction of who the hell are you?

the thing that the Lions defense does not realize is that the team has to send its offense out onto the field also......

the idiot cost the Lions 15 yards

the Lions brand of stupidity is why they'll have another top 10 pick next year.....

they'll get swept in their division......again

I have a Hockey mentality, you never let someone get in the face of your QB like that, I don't care if we get 100 yard penalty, you pound that ************ into the ground. How embarrassing, I'm embarrassed that the Pats didn't show up, and also played like a bunch of wussies. This team is too finesse, tough teams beat the crap out of us. We need a team full of Logan Mankins'.

considering the refs will watch a player take multiple swings at one of our receivers(cary williams anyone?) and then call a penalty on our guy who just stands there and takes it, maybe the issue isnt that we wont retaliate so much as we know the refs are out to get us.

retaliate on the scoreboard

The Patriots are pretty much viewed as a soft team and stuff like this doesn't help.

In a regular season game, I'd agree. But that JAG had no right doing that to the GOAT in a preseason. Someone should have jacked his ass up and started a brawl, then the coaching staff should have removed Brady from the game afterward.

What if Brady poked that dude in the eye?

No other sports topic would be talked about for at least today.

Clearly his mom and his coach didn't teach him any manners. Another loser nobody who thinks he is all that on the football field but has failed at life entirely.

If you let another person's behavior dictate yours, even allow it to be a distraction, you are allowing them to determine the field of play and the terms of engagement.

The only thing that matters in a football game is having a higher score at the end (and avoiding injuries and anything else that will harm your ability to have a higher score in games going forward). There's no artistic merit medal, or macho metric.

There was no harm done to our football team's efforts at having a higher score by this guy's behavior. If the ref hadn't seen it, it would have had no impact on the game, unless the Patriots decide to let it have that impact.

Being embarrassed by that is a choice, and a loss of focus.

You think Wifork and Spikes are soft? You'd have to be soft in the head tyo let a no talent clown suck you into a penalty.

Rules were completely different then...

Also check out Vollmer, his eyes were downfield it wasn't until after the dude was in Brady's face (and probably the flag thrown by the ref) did he start turning his head back around.

I guarantee though had Mankins seen it happen, you would've seen a lion skid mark on the ground.

Intimidation only works on weak minded individuals, something the Pats aren't. I am sure they are well prepared for teams to come at them like this... they've been doing it for years.

This is exactly why teams like the Ravens, Giants, and Jets (when they were good) own us in big games. No balls.

I would absolutely love to see everyone who thinks the Pats are soft explain that to Spikes and Mankins.
