Making The Club From The Tub, NOT

Cunningham is gone at this point--being surpassed by Marcus Benard who's had a great camp. Can see BB putting Cunningham on IR though.

Armstead will be PUPd--there's a sharp drop-off on the Dline after Wilfork and Kelly, so they'll need to take a look at Armstead and give him a shot.

As for Fells, he's had a good camp. The two practices I saw he caught almost everything thrown his way and the reporting on him has been positive all camp. He may be caught up in a numbers game though.

Hard to see them give up on Dowling yet, but I wouldn't be surprised since the guy just can't stay on the field.

Armstead has lists he could go on, no? (I'm not up on the details of the NFI --> PUP transition.) I agree that there's a good chance the brass will decide they don't want him to play until he's had some time to practice with his first NFL team first, so that speaks to not forcing him onto the 53 when there are nice lists available instead.

Cunningham's best role last year was to play in a role he's sort of too light for. That suggests that toughness/durability is a key requirement for him.

Dowling's been extreme in his inability to stay on the field.

Fells I have no opinion on.

I don't expect the following to be on the 53 if they cannot play next week.

Fells
Dowling
Armstead
Cunningham

Armstead would go to PUP, I think they’d send Dowling and Cunningham to injured reserve rather than releasing them, and given Fells has only missed last night’s game if he was released it would have more to do with him being beat out than this actual injury.

Fells might have trade value. MIA and others NEED a TE

Why Fells? He was great against the Eagles. Mallett's go-to guy.

I'd rather make the Dolphins play without a tight end to ensure that Tannehill gets killed behind that line than have them get Fells for a seventh rounder.

Playing behind a turnstile OL with no receivers who can get open in the short-intermediate areas of the field can totally ruin a young quarterback, and let's be honest, we'd all love to see Tannehill bust.

Glas-IR at 33 & Tavon Wilson at 48 are inexcusably, unprofessionally awful selections.
The talent still available at those 2 picks is the true waste.

Did you hate the Ras-I pick when it happened? I don't recall many people having a problem with it, aside from a few who pointed to his injury history. Then again, those same people were against the Gronk and Chandler Jones picks for the same reason.

I put the players out there. I might have added Zusevics and Ebner.

Cunningham is a free agent after the season. Why would we put him on IR? Would he still owe us a season?

Yes, Fells has a good game, but so did Sudfeld (move TE) and Ballard (blocking TE). I'm fine with keeping Fells, but if he is out for a couple of more weeks, we will be forced to keep 2 injured TE's on the 53 or put Gronk on the PUP list (not a good idea).

I wasn't fully understanding the reasoning to put Cunningham on IR either. That wouldn't make much sense. Maybe Brady 6 forgot that he was an UFA next year?

I can't remember if he practiced or not during TC in the beginning. If he did not and they keep him on PUP all year (like M.Pryor last year, or Johnny Knox in Chicago) instead of sending him to IR then the possibility exists that it is not a credited year.

Someone with a much better understanding may be able to break it down better, but this is what I remember with Pryor and Knox last season.

Of course if he's already practiced this summer, the point is moot anyway.

My first surprise cut is the injured vet, dan connoly. Though he is good, he is our weak link and is getting up there in age.

They just IRd Green. Diddnt Mattes or a OL guy get hurt the other day? I dont know if they should be cutting Connolly. Assuming Cannon slides into RG you still want backups. Connolly can play Guard and center unless he is to injured.

His cap sayings would be 1.7 mil but you need depth and would still need to sign someone if these rookies are not ready.

But sometimes El Coronel, and some of the other self-deluded, Patriot fans Draftniks, can alter history, as required to suit their needs, for their hobby. As they go on and on about how they are superior talent selectors, and BB is by comparison, a bum.;)

It is all in fun. But they do have enough perspicacity to be Patriot fans, after all. That is a testimony to their true capacity for genuine talent recognition.:D:D:D:D:cool:

Benard had some glowing camp reports, but he's done nothing in the games to impress and neither Buchanan or Bequette are anywhere near ready to contribute. I had Cunningham off my roster, but assuming he is healthy enough to return for the PS finale he has a very good shot of making the team.

Just one week ago Fells was the top TE according to several reports, including the one I trust the most, AWTE.

For the record: Yes I did not like the Glas-IR pick the instant I learned it was made.
I wanted Bill to take either Brooks Reed or Jabaal Sheard.
Now, had Glas-IR been still available at the end of the 2nd round, then I would've been OK with it.

I think Connelly is pretty safe this year for sure. He's reportedly close to returning so that makes the situation pretty close to automatic in my opinion.

However, your overall point is valid and I think that next season he'll be gone. That'll give them a nice opportunity to take an offensive lineman (interior) within the first 2-3 rounds.

He'll offer us a 3 million dollar cap savings next year, which is also the last year of his deal and the year where Wendell will likely need to be re upped, so I think the writing is on the wall for Dan Connelly...but next year, not this year.

We are likely to pay Wendell OR Connolly. It is not clear that Wendell won't walk for good money elsewhere.

As far as drafting a quality center is the first 2-3 rounds, we've been looking for 3 years. It isn't as easy as it looks.

Armstead will be on PUP - he really is in a different situation

Dowling has been my biggest disappoint in recent years. He has the physical tools to be a difference measure but can find his way to the field

It's worth trading him just to prevent him from going to Miami

There's not a lot of available TEs out there and we seem to be doing well even without Hernandez

Saw Reiss compare Dowling to Shawn Crable this week in his chat recap. Just a waste of talent on a guy who can't stay healthy. It's too bad.

Crable didn't look like a professional football player when he was on the field. Dowling at least when healthy looked like he belonged out there.
