Jason Wolfe out at WEEI

I agree with most of this, especially Adams being worthless. I don't understand how Adams in particular has survived so long. Holley and Arnold are the only two they've had in recent years that I can tolerate.

Night time program #'s don't really matter. People tune in and companies buy ad space for game time slots. WEEI has those covered with the Celtics and Sox. They pretty much have games on year round. 162+ Sox games, 82+ Celtics games plus live MNF/SNF, etc. Mikey just has to not touch any little boys or offend any race or religion and he's fine.

aren't the honchos NY radio bigshots?..Clear Channel?...I bullshytted around with Fred a couple of seasons ago in the tent up at Foxboro, his tailgate hustle and he said the management of EEI were all NY'ers and die hard Jet fans who hated the Patriots...and the Yankees...who knows if its true...like most of you said, personally, I listen less and less...Salk is a personal affront to my warped sense of who a man should be and how he should portray himself to the public.I'd rather the host was Pee Wee Herman with Holley...at least there'd be SOME funny now and then.

If the executives at Entercom were smart, they would bring back someone like Julie Kahn, Tom Baker or Tim Murphy to run WEEI along with a wide cast of the personalities that they use to have on the show.

I would try to lure back Meter, Mustard, Wallach, Stearns, Lenny and of course Ordway, Pete while moving Mike Adams to the 10 to 2 slot or have Meter in that slot.

I would still run D & C from 6 AM to 10 AM

I would run Meter and Merloni from 10 AM to 2 PM

I would run the Big O, Pete and his show from 2 to 6 PM

and I would run Mikey from 6 PM through the end of the night.

And then I would continue with the same format that was kicking ass in the 1990s and 2000s. This is the lineup that EEI needs and if this is what happened, I would start listening again and back in the day, I was a big fan of what EEI was doing.

Thank god Wolfe is gone. He was a bonehead. I don't remember who was running with the Big O back in the day but whomever SHE was, they had it going on (memory recall, it was Julie Kahn). They knew what they were doing. Their ratings were great back then and their ad revenue was just tremendous.

The problem wasn't the personalities or the shows but it was the natural evolution of the programs.

D&C went from sports with an editorial edge to political/current events talk almost over night. Then they tried to turn it back to "water cooler" talk, integrating sports and politics. However, they couldn't recover the lost listeners, nor could they keep people who had tuned in for the sports talk from tuning out when the slightest hint of political talk swung back.

They were losing listeners to T&R even when they were on WBCN. Keeping them is a losing proposition.

THe midday show is a cluster. I like Mut, but he was not ready for primetime (hosting his own daily show in this market). Dale Arnold was the perfect type of person for midday sports talk. He is not reactionary, he is thoughtful, uses stats to back up his asertations, and knows enough about each of the four teams in the market to speak intelligently on them. Heck, when he would have a college sports guest on, for example, he clearly had done enough research to not need to go the bombastic route.

The afternoon drive could not go back to what it was. Glenn, while I liked him a lot, became too big for the show. His personality had taken over. The Big O, and by extension his program, became too important and had to always have the last word. The ignoring of callers and their points, the talking over each other, etc, was all just too much to handle.

I listen to a lot of sports talk radio through TuneIn and other radio apps. The nature of sports talk radio has changed since WFAN kicked it all off in the 1980s. It is now an audio only version of these BSPN "debate" shows. Trumped up controversy, planned arguments, and scripted programming. It is not as organic as it once was, anywhere. For that, we are all losing out.

They are not a clearchannel station. They are owned and operated by Entercom. Clear Channel runs the following in Boston:

WEDX
WJMN
WKOX
WXKS
WXKS-FM

I agree with most of that sentiment. You have to admit though that some of the regular callers like Dakota from Braintree and the like were also a part of the making of the Big O show which was why the Big O show was also very comical.

I started listening to sports radio back in the early 80s when Chuck Wilson was on. It is amazing to me that Chuck Wilson is still on the radio.

El Pres will be happy.

Joker, I wouldn't believe Fred The Christmas Donkey if he told me that the ocean contained salt water. The fact that WEEI once featured the braying one as a semi-regular and still feature Mustard and Johnson every Saturday are vivid examples of the contempt that Wolfe has and had for his listeners.

For those that commuted back and forth on the Mass Pike during the Whiner Line, I know that I appreciated it even if it was for only a few minutes.

I wish there was a website dedicated to the best of the Whiner Line.

I am looking for the Harry Carey whiner line calls....those calls was some of the best comedy that EEI ever had.

I hate Dakota with a passion. He and other celebrity callers who only call to outrageously negative things about the local teams are a big part of what did Ordway in. I don't buy Dakota's act. He always calls in with ridiculous things that even he can't believe like when he predicted the Pats would go 4-12 before the 2004 season. And he was just a tool for Ordway to ridicule to make himself look smart and a champion of the local fanbase.

Guys like Dakota and Steve from Fall River have created characters for themselves and call to the radio shows because they love to hear themselves talk and become local celebrities. All they do is lower the intelligence of the discussion.

Personally, if I hear those two or Frank from Gloucester or Al from Everett or Danny from Quincy get on the air and I change the station. All those guys have the same schtick every call.

No offense, but that is a horrible line up.

D&C have lost it as hosts. Maybe ten years ago, they were great hosts, but now they are too political and the kings of the non-sports, sports story. They would rather spend a week talking about Jerry Sandusky than what is happening on the sports field. The only redeeming thing about their show is they get better guests to talk football than Toucher and Rich.

Jon Meterperel is horrible. He was Mr. Contrarian and not a good one. If you are going to be a contrarian, you need to sell that you buy your BS. Meter would be the contrarian on D&C and it was obvious that even he wasn't buying what he is selling.

I am not a fan of Pete Sheppard. I find homer radio even worse than hater radio. There is nothing more boring than listening to a local host wash balls all afternoon.

I also think Ordway is just too fat and lazy to be good anymore. He pretty much mailed in the show his last 5 years or so.

And Mike Adams. Oh, Mike Adams. If you are looking for a radio talk show that consists primarily of 70s Red Sox trivia, Mikey is your guy. A sports show on any other topic, and I would go with virtually anyone else. Ironically, I feel that 98.5 put their best hosts consistently against him where he gets no ratings. Damon Amendolara and then Adam Jones are probably the best talk show hosts on either station because they actually talked sports rather than the BS that most of the other guys talk about.

That may be true.

I have not listened to EEI since 2007 but going back to that time, it is what I listened to in the office and on occasion at home.

I remember when Mikey Adams set up a coup in the EEI offices and on-air demanding that he get a full-time job back in 2005 or 2006 and did it for at least 2-3 hours before Jason Wolf actually called into the show to get him settled down because Adams was sick and tired of being at Wolf's beck and call.

It was a classic show.

I believe that episode was a publicity stunt... it was grand theater.

Anyone see that John Dennis was responding to a fake Marc Bertrand (98.5) Twitter account?

@JohnDennisWEEI : Hey Marc. Vacation sloth. Man up u fat hippo. Don’t be a coward. Follow me so I can really tell you what I truly think about you.
@JohnDennisWEEI : Man up Fat boy. Of course you won’t. Ur on VACA wiping out buffet after buffet. #uWILLdieLIKEjcandyUWalrus
@JohnDennisWEEI : Hey Mouth. Stop eating. Start tweeting Marc. U Unfollowed u coward so I can't DM U. Maybe I'll just visit. Does 2-6 work hippo?

To which the real Mark Bertrand responded...

@Marc_Bertrand: You are crazy. I've never said a word about you and yet you always seem to talk smack about me.
@Marc_Bertrand: ‏According to your timeline you have been cursing me out to a nameless twitter account you thought was me for some reason.
@Marc_Bertrand: I have no idea what your beef is with me and how it started but I'm not getting involved.

Weei is dead. Just like the Globe and Red Sox brand is.

Re: Re: Jason Wolfe out at WEEI

Weei is dead. Just like the Globe and Red Sox brand is.

And yet the 10-2 show on 98.5 has Shaunessey in studio 2 hours a week, kissing his ass. I like the sportshub, but they are more cozy with the globe than weei.

Felger & Mazz are just negative people and are not happy unless they're complaining or throwing poop against the wall and seeing what sticks. But it is the best produced sports show on the air, it's an easy listen. To me that's what started the downfall of WEEI losing Stewart, than breaking up Dale & Holley. D&H was the only show winning its time slot.
