Which Pat Had the Worst Performance Against The Eagles?

And I was simply pointing out that Ryan was a guy that most people liked, it wasn't just Bill.

yeah, i don't follow the draft very much anymore because all I end up doing is getting mad when the Patriots pass on David Terrell to pick Richard Seymour.

So I just come here and read the varied opinions and there was nary a negative word said about Ryan, I remember a number of people felt like we got back on track after the 'horrible' Harmon pick.

Now all the 20/20 hindsight types show up with their history eraser buttons and suddenly the Ryan pick was the worst thing since Chris Canty.

Personally, I don't watch college football, so I never have any opinions on the draft during a draft. Sorry, there is no "eraser button" needed to hit.

I can only judge what I see. What I saw in TC the past few weeks and in the Friday game was a lost and confused small-sized CB in Logan Ryan. During that time I also saw an authoritative, big hitting and smart player in Duron Harmon.

Hopefully, Ryan improves from what he has shown so far.

I would be more concerned about Tavon Wilson since he is not a "rookie" anymore.

If by small sized CB you mean third biggest corner on our team behind Talib and Ras-I, who may or may not even be on the 53.

He may have been a bit lost as he was primarily a zone corner in college thrust on to the first team defense in an entirely different press man scheme.

LR is catching so much flak on these boards. In his first game action, he played with the 1s and 2s against pretty good receivers. He fared pretty well. His safety play was marginal at best. He got beat a few times but he also was the only only NEP to record 2 passes defended. Give the kid a break. He wasnt drafted to come in here and be an all pro in his first game.

He has the tools to become a decent #2 or great #3 corner in this league. He has plus athleticism as shown by his 3 cone and 20/60 shuttle times (3 cone was phenomenal), good length yet lacks the deep speed. He reminds me A LOT of casey heyward, who the entire board *****ed and moaned about us passing on in favor of Tavon. Yet, people only brought this name up after he recorded 6 picks last year. Man, hindsight really is 20/20.

Just my 2 cents.

I know that Cole is a special teamer / bubble player and all, but he didn't stand out to me as having a poor game. On the contrary, he made a few nice pass-breakups and i thought he held his ground.

Tebow and Mallett were both notably bad as well, but I pretty much expected that from both of them. Admittedly, in Mallett's case we may just be used to way too high of a standard at QB, because compared to Brady, it was jarring to see how consistently he failed at hitting his receivers in stride.

I missed a chunk of the game that corresponded with most of Mallett's snaps. Based on feedback here, I expected ugliness. So I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw on rewind: a reasonable-looking NFL backup quarterback. Strong arm, decent mechanics, didn't look flustered or overwhelmed. Field vision and timing/accuracy were just so-so, but he was also under more pressure than Brady, playing mostly behind o-linemen who will be out of work in a few weeks. And count me in the camp that puts most of the blame on Boyce for the endzone miss. He looks better to me than Cassel ever did in preseason, at least.

Agreed. I think people who thought he was awful are basing it purely on results, which for a backup developmental QB playing in preseason game 1 is secondary IMO. I wanted to see him look more comfortable and decisive, and I'd say he'd made strides in that area. I also think we're somewhat tainted watching Tom Brady. Compared to him, any backup is going to look jittery and imprecise.

I too thought Mallet looked OK. He missed some passes but his receivers didn't exactly bail him out either. A few balls that could have been caught were not.

Tebow to me looked a lot worse and is the answer for the Patriots player who has the worst performance.

I'm a huge Bill guy but I really don't see this. Why on earth would he have a QB whose skills are so different than one and two that he'd need to change the offense for him if the unthinkable happened? This seems like a decision that Rex Ryan or some other NFL nitwit would make.

It seemed to me like the game was still coming at Mallett faster than he was ready for. It's too bad he couldn't have played longer because I'd like to see how he catches up to game speed with longer stretches of play. Maybe this week.

Yeah, I was more impressed on a second viewing than I was the first time, though I'm not sold on him ever being more than a decent backup.

FWIW, Mallett clearly makes a "my bad" tap to the helmet in Boyce's direction after that miss.

I vote for Logan Ryan.
He made one decent tackle, but for the life of me, I have no idea what he is doing as a 3rd round draft pick of the Patriots. Can someone please tell me what Belichick saw in this guy?
The same could be said of a number of DBs taken early. In fact i'm sure i could compile quite a list.

Agreed, but I'd be happy with that. I think Mallett is suffering from an expectations gap based on pre-draft hype, rather than draft-day reality. If you just take him at face value as a mid-round pick with excellent size and arm strength who has held down the backup QB job at short money, it's hard to complain.

Cole's awful play is one of those weird group-think phenomenon around here like area 51 or something. It's all based on anger that the guy who was like, 5th on our depth chart couldn't keep up with Bolden in the AFCCG.

Cole was in good position most of the night on Friday.

One of the better posts of the past few days. What people expect for a #5 CB who is an excellent ST player is ridiculous. Yet no one offers the name of a better #5 CB on another team with similar ST contributions.

The worst performance for me was probably Tavon Wilson, he just bites to easily on the pump fake. He really needs to make a big year 2 jump or he'll just keep sliding. Duron Harmon looks like he'll jump over him on the depth chart.

By most accounts, there were a number of WRs available who were rated over Dobson.

its a toss up between Edelman and Tebow.
I dont think tebow will make the 53 man roster anyways so im going to julian

2 fumbles, only three receptions, and the odd man out with dobson and thompkins looking great as rookies, and amendola the starting vet.

I hope julian steps it up this week and puts on a show.

I wasn't to thrilled with Tebow either but I think it's a matter of expectations when evaluating him. He isn't a passing QB, he isn't accurate, and he has trouble getting rid of the ball on time etc.

Does that mean he can't be effective QB? That's debatable. It's tough to watch sometimes, however he does have his good qualities. He can do that QB draw whenever he wants, and when the opposition stacks the line he can throw the deep ball to Dobson in one-on-one coverage. He does have a nice deep ball.

Again, he won't be pretty to watch but that doesn't mean he can't be effective. People shouldn't get too angry at him whenever he misses a throw IMO. He's not there to be Mike Kafka

Why are people getting defensive as if I'm insulting Bill in some way?

Let me make this 100% clear.

I have no opinion whatsoever about who NE drafts. Once you get out of the top 2-3 selections of the first round, I've never heard of any of these guys anyway. I'm only pointing out what most "analysts" were saying prior to the draft - not whether they are credible, just that they existed.

Why are you badmouthing Sanchez?
Ever since the butt fumble I don't need Prozac anymore!:p

Tom Brady Stevan Ridley Kenbrell Thompkins and the first string offensive line.
